Man, you need to be back on the radio, Oaks. You're got a great program!
I saw the early Fleetwood Mac out here, in San Francisco around 1970 or so when Peter Green was still with them. Seems like...I'm fuzzy on this, that a guitarist was also with them then, a Curly Cook. Got that stuck in my head. Not sure though.
They ripped. Peter's "Black Magic Woman" is great. Very soulful player and singer. They did an xxx-rated version of "Shake Your MoneyMaker" that was hilarious. They were drunk as skunks. Great band. Funny how it evolved over time in to the Big Mac. :)-->
A la Prochaine mentioned the Taylor tune "Home by Another Way". Sweet tune, so I dug it out this weekend, from the "Never Die Young" cd. You be right, 'Chaine! Great tune, and it has a very thoughtful message inside it. Classic Taylor, snappy beat, easy feel. For all those heading home by another way, The Maestro of the Healing Soul sings, children: :)-->
"Home By Another Way"
Timothy Mayer and James Taylor
Those magic men the Magi
Some people call them wise
Or Oriental, even kings
Well anyway, those guys
They visited with Jesus
They sure enjoyed their stay
Then warned in a dream of King Herod's scheme
They went home by another way
Yes they went home by another way
Home by another way
Maybe me and you can be wise guys too
And go home by another way
We can make it another way
Safe home as they used to say
Keep a weather eye to the chart on high
And go home another way
Steer clear of royal welcomes
Avoid a big to-do
A king who would slaughter the innocents
Will not cut a deal for you
He really, really wants those presents
He'll comb your camel's fur
Until his boys announce they've found trace amounts
Of your frankincense, gold and myrrh
Time to go home by another way
Home by another way
You have to figure the Gods saying play the odds
And go home by another way
We can make it another way
Safe home as they used to say
Keep a weather eye to the chart on high
And go home another way
Home is where they want you now
You can more or less assume that you'll be welcome in the end
Mustn't let King Herod haunt you so
Or fantasize his features when you're looking at a friend
I don't remember "Curly Cook", but music was one big incestuous family back then :P-->, so perhaps you are right.
Peter Green has been out and about playing these last few years, but I haven't heard any of his new stuff. The album Jumping at Shadows has a great version of Black Magic Woman (written by Green, not Carlos S, as you know)
Yes, that is quite a song isn't it ~ loaded with all sorts of messages. A fine Work.
Hey, I'm on my way to a concert this week ~ 'Great Big Sea'!!! They're a Celtic/Rock band with such a different sound. Lots of energy! They are from Newfoundland and do both traditional and original music.
Do tell us about it once you have gone. I have a few Celtic CD's. Love the music, in fact have one on now titled The Roll Of The Sea. Soothing and romantic. :)-->
This was the album just before their ground-breaking Dark Side of the Moon, when they were at the height of their reign as a "head" band.
Side Two is taken up with the incredible cut called Echoes. Another Favorite of mine is One of These Days, which has a very cool bass intro.
Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon are my favorite Pink Floyd albums, followed closely by Wish You Were Here. I think Roger Waters got too politically allegorical with Animals and The Wall, and the earlier albums were a little too "weird" for my taste.
Rosedale Tom
"We're just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year..."
Al was a veteran of Return To Forever, the "original" fusion band that had Chick Corea and Stanley Clark as two of it's other founding members (I'm drawing a blank on the drummer --> ) and has stayed busy ever since.
Kiss My Axe is a guitar oriented album, very fast paced, showcasing DiMeola's abilities on the guitar. It's mostly instrumentals, which I especially enjoy.

I haven't read every post on this 15 page thread so I wonder if the Eagles have been discussed yet? I think they were one of the tightest bands I've ever heard. They were as good, if not better, on-stage than they were in the recording studio. We went to their "Hell Freezes Over" tour a few years back and it was marvelous.
A few nights ago I was flipping around the old TV dial and came across "Almost Famous". Lemme tell you - I've seen it a dozen time but it is still one of my all time favorite movies. If you haven't seen it - go rent it. There's so much history in it and memories for people "our" age! (the main character, William Miller, graduated High School the same year I did).
I was never a huge Elton John fan. I always admired his talent, but not his style. But because of that movie, "Tiny Dancer" is now one of my favorite songs:
************************************************
But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly, slowly
Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer
Count the headlights on the highway.
Lay me down on sheets of linen
You had a busy day today.
Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer
Count the headlight on the highwayyyyyy....

I don't think much said about the Eagles yet. I love 'Hotel California' and 'New Kid In Town', to name a few. Do you have that newer album of theirs, which ain't new now I guess. --> I thought I had it but can't find it now, anyway I thought that was an awesome album, after being apart for so many years. They sounded like they never split up only better I think than ever before.
Again I think age really can be an advantage for artists, they just get better.
Chatty and Hope, I think I mentioned the Eagles several pages back.....Anyway, they were one of the 1st concerts I ever went to. I still like them to this day.
Chatty, you have a private topic. Check it out.
Hope, will ya ask John to check the Computer thread. I asked him a question. Thanks.
Has anyone noticed that if you listen to CD?s more than the radio that you lose track of what is current music? At work I am in a computer room and the reception is nearly impossible for any radio station so I listen to CD?s or cassettes. On the way to and from or out and about I listen to older country and rock n roll stations. At home it is mixed but rarely have just the radio on. Anyway I just realized I have lost contact with today?s music in lots of ways. Am I the only one who got lost like that? -->
act2, please check our private topic now. And thanks for the invite, it was my first. :)-->
Hey Chatty, I notice that sometimes too. I keep a couple stations pegged on my radio and usually listen to them on the way into work. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything that's grabbed my attention..John Mayer's one, we got his cd. Avril Lavigne was another.
Yeah, it's easy for a week to go by like that. Trouble for me is a lot of music I hear sounds the same. I have to cast around to various stations, college, jazz, to find one that plays something beyond one kind of programming. Plus all the digital sound makes a lot of it sound dead. Not all of it, but some.
Yeah Socks not a whole lot of tunes that catch my ears anymore outside of country but some of the pop singers I do enjoy. One thing that still holds true to country music they have no fear of doing songs that have a positive message concerning God or Jesus Christ. Well it pleasures me to be here
And to sing this song tonight
They tell me that life is a miracle
And I figured that they're right
But Herod's always out there
He's got our cards on file
It's a lead pipe cinch, if we give an inch
Old Herod likes to take a mile
It's best to go home by another way
Home by another way
We got this far to a lucky star
But tomorrow is another day
We can make it another way
Safe home as they used to say
Keep a weather eye to the chart on high
And go home another way

Ted amazes me. Last night I put together a group of three verses. Sent them to him and woke this morning with an email of a completed song from it.
If we never made a dime, which I would like to do mind ya, we are having more fun than any two folks should be allowed to along the way. :)-->

Like A Mountain
Cast to the sea
all your troubles
like a mountain of fear
Watch the fig tree
of your demons
Wither from the ground up
Calm raging seas
Walking on them
Because you love your Lord
All hurts are healed
and no sorrow
But that day's not today

Hope,
My favourite Eagles tune:
Take It Easy
Well, I'm running down the road
tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on
my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy
Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
we will never be here again
so open up, I'm climbin' in,
so take it easy
Well I'm running down the road trying to loosen
my load, got a world of trouble on my mind
lookin' for a lover who won't blow my
cover, she's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
don't let the sound of your own
wheels make you crazy
come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me, oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy
I realize this song is kinda' raw... but I still love it!
'til the next time...

Take it Easy...written by Jackson Browne.
and I love these words
call it a loan
in the morning when I closed my eyes
you were sleeping in paradise
and while the room was growing light
I was holding still with all my might
oh-what if it's true
what my heart says
oh-what'll I do
what if this feeling becomes hard to part with
you were meant to play your part
in the design of a desperate heart
and while you gave your love to me
I was betting I was getting it free
oh-if I'd only known
what your heart cost
oh-can we call it a loan?
and a debt that I owe,
on a bet that I lost
in the evening when you see my eyes
looking back at you, no disguise
I'm not sure who you think you'll see
I'm just hoping you'll still know that it's me
oh-what if it's true
better ask the man inside
oh, oh-there seem to be two
one steals the love, and the other one hides
yeah-can we call it a loan?
'til I'm paid in full for the seeds I've sown
yeah-can we say that I've grown
in some way that we may have yet to be shown
oh-if I'd only known
what your heart cost
oh-can we call it a loan?
and a debt that I owe,
on a bet that I lost
I wept when I first heard the song, thinking how little I deserved the love of a good woman, my wife, Jean

Garth Brooks
"Wolves"
January's always bitter
But Lord this one beats all
The wind ain't quit for weeks now
And the drifts are ten feet tall
I been all night drivin' heifers
Closer in to lower ground
Then I spent the mornin' thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pulled down
Charlie Barton and his family
Stopped today to say goodbye
He said the bank was takin' over
The last few years were just too dry
And I promised that I'd visit
When they found a place in town
Then I spent a long time thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Lord please shine a light of hope
On those of us who fall behind
And when we stumble in the snow
Could you help us up while there's still time
Well I don't mean to be complainin' Lord
You've always seen me through
And I know you got your reasons
For each and every thing you do
But tonight outside my window
There's a lonesome mournful sound
And I just can't keep from thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Oh Lord keep me from bein'
The one the wolves pull down
