Re:"I don't recall that one... Was it on the Rock 'n roll stations?"
Yeah, I think so but click HERE! to listen to it. A good tear jerker, huh?
I also had Pirate's song, Last Kiss, but it's the Pearl Jam version.. not the original, because Pearl Jam came out with it last year and my middle teenage daughter had it in her music files. Listened to it night and day for weeks . click HERE! to listen to it as well.
(Henry was a founding member of Sha Na Na, did rock 'n' roll stuff, toured with the Beach Boys and this song was about Carl Wilson's...dog. So I guess it's a dead dog song. :(--> Beautiful tune in it's way.)
This song reminds me of the sound of Death speaking through drugs when it's last call at the end of the line. Sorry if it's a downer. In performance it's, well, very weird. But Tool rips the ground up and pounds it back down with this one. Made to be played loud. Very loud.

Another classic of the "dead teen" genre:
TELL LAURA I LOVE HER
Ray Peterson
Laura and Tommy were lovers
He wanted to give her everything
Flowers, presents and most of all, a wedding ring
He saw a sign for a stock car race
A thousand dollar prize it read
He couldn't get Laura on the phone
So to her mother Tommy said
Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura I may be late
I've something to do, that cannot wait
He drove his car to the racing grounds
He was the youngest driver there
The crowed roared as they started the race
'Round the track they drove at a deadly pace
No one knows what happened that day
How his car overturned in flames
But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck
With his dying breath, they heard him say
Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die
And in the chapel where Laura prays
For Tommy who passed away
It was just for Laura he lived and died
Alone in the chapel she can hear him cry
Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die
Tell Laura I love her.....

Now for the Ramones!
7-11 - Ramones
I met her at the 7-11
Now I'm in 7th heaven
Tell me, tell me
Can this be true
I never though I'd ever
meet a girl like you
She was standing by the Space Invaders
So I said can I see you later
Yeah we went for a little spin
Down to the Holiday Inn
We was young and in love
We was young and in love
And you're the only girl
I'm ever thinking of
We went down to the record swap
The kids were dancing
to the blitzkrieg bop
Bop-shoo-wop shoo-wop shoo-wop
Bop-shoo-wop shoo-wop shoo-wop
What ever happend to the radio
And where did all the fun songs go
Summer fun, with the Beach Boys on
But we all know what went wrong
Oh-wo-wo
We was young and in love
We was young and in love
And you're the only girl
I'm ever dreaming of
And we went down to the dance
Which turned into a whole romance
And after just one night
I never knew that things could be so right
Oh-no-no-no-no-no-no-no
I kissed her and hugged her
And I said good-bye
Last thing I knew
She wouldn't make it alive
Oncoming car went out of control
It crushed my baby
And it crushed my soul
Now all I've got is sorrow and pain
Standing out here in the rain
The crash, shattering glass
The sirens, and pain
Is driving me insane oh-yeah
We was young and in love
We was young and in love
And you're the only girl
I'm ever thinking of
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Surprised nobody's mentioned this one yet:
LAST KISS
J. Frank Wilson
Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
We were out on a date in my daddy's car.
We hadn't driven very far.
There in the road, straight ahead ...
The car was stalled, the engine was dead.
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right.
Never forget the sound that night ...
The cryin' tires, the bustin' glass.
The painful scream that I heard last.
Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
Well, when I woke up, the rain was pourin' down.
There were people standing all around.
Something warm running in my eyes,
but I found my baby somehow that night.
I raised her head, and when she smiled, and said,
"Hold me darling for a little while."
I held her close. I kissed her our last kiss.
I found the love that I knew I would miss.
But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight.
I lost my love ... my life, that night.
Well, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Does anyone remember the Alice Cooper song Cold Ethel? I tried to find the lyrics, but no such luck.
I won free tickets to see him a few years ago and bought a couple of his tapes as I had none of his stuff - I couldn't believe this song.
(I worked at the County Morgue at the time - how fitting!)
B - Better
O - Off
W - Without
t - the
w - way
i - international

One thing, no lie.
Ethel's as frigid as an Eskimo Pie.
She's cool in bed.
Well, she oughta be because Ethel's dead

You probably couldn't find the lyrics because it's Ethyl, not Ethel
COLD ETHYL
Alice Cooper
One thing I miss is Cold Ethyl and her skeleton kiss
We met last night making love by the refrigerator light
Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
One thing
No lie
Ethyl's frigid as an eskimo pie
She's cool in bed
Well she oughta be 'cuz Ethyl's dead
Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
Come on Cold Ethyl
Freeze me babe
One thing - it's true
Cold Ethyl I am stuck on you
And everything is my way
Ethyl don't have much to say
Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
Come here Cold Ethyl
What makes you so cold? Ooh so cold
Cold Ethyl
Cold Cold Ethyl
If I live 'til ninety-seven
You'll still be waiting in refrigerator heaven
'cuz you're cool
You're ice
Cold Ethyl
You're my paradise
A lovely romantic tune, isn't it?

Eleanor Rigby - Beatles
ah, look at all the lonely people!
ah, look at all the lonely people!
eleanor rigby picks up the rice in the church
where a wedding has been
lives in a dream
waits at the window
wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door
who is it for?
all the lonely people
where do they all come from?
all the lonely people
where do they all belong?
father mckenzie, writing the words of a sermon
that no one will hear
no one comes near
look at him working, darning his socks in the night
when there's nobody there
what does he care?
all the lonely people
where do they all come from?
all the lonely people
where do they all belong?
ah, look at all the lonely people!
ah, look at all the lonely people!
eleanor rigby died in the church
and was buried along with her name
nobody came
father mckenzie wiping the dirt from his hands
as he walks from the grave
no one was saved
all the lonely people...
(ah, look at all the lonely people!)
where do they all come from?
all the lonely people...
(ah, look at all the lonely people!)
where do they all belong?

Rocky
http://posty.net/mary/bigbadjohn.html
(Big John, Big John)
Ev'ry mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed two forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to
Big John.
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)
Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much, kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you just said "Hi" to
Big John.
Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Lousiana fellow to the Promised Land-
Big John
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)
Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last-
'cept John
Through the dust and the smoke of this
man-made Hell
Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well
Grabbed a saggin' timber, gave out with a groan
And like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone-
Big John
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)
And with all of his strength he gave a mighty shove
Then a miner yelled out "There's a light up above!"
And twenty men scrambled from a would-be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save-
Big John
With jacks and timbers they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that mine
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for
Big John
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)
Now they never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marble stand in front of it
These few words are written on that stand:
At the bottom of this pit lies one hell of a man,
Big John
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)
(Big John, Big John)
Big Bad John
(Big John)

Thanks Rocky, I just loved that song, It reminds me of my first hubby who was 6'7" tall. He died also but not in a mine.
But in contrast to big John he was a sweet teddy bear.

"Shannon" by Henry Gross
------------------------
Another day's at end
Mama says she's tired again
No one can even begin to tell her
I hardly know what to say
But maybe it's better that way
If poppa were here I'm sure he'd tell her
Shannon is gone I heard
She's drifting out to sea
She always loved to swim away
Maybe she'll find an island
With a shaded tree
Just like the one in our backyard
Mama tries hard to pretend
That things will get better again
Somehow she's keepin' it all inside her
But finally the tears fill our eyes
And I know that somewhere tonight
She knows how much we really miss her
Shannon is gone I heard
She's drifting out to sea
She always loved to swim away
Maybe she'll find an island
With a shaded tree
Just like the one in our back yard
Ah....
Just like the one in our back yard
Ah....
(Henry was a founding member of Sha Na Na, did rock 'n' roll stuff, toured with the Beach Boys and this song was about Carl Wilson's...dog. So I guess it's a dead dog song. :(--> Beautiful tune in it's way.)
We had so many good times and some bad.
We shared the happiness and we shared the sad.
We suffered all
All the miseries.
Back when I had you girl, and you had me...

"Sober" by Tool/Maynard James Keenan
------------------------------------
there's a shadow just behind me,
shrouding every breath I take,
making every promise empty,
pointing every finger at me
waiting like a stalking butler
who upon the finger rests.
murder now the path called "must we"
just before the sun has come.
Jesus, won't you f**king whistle
something but the past and done?
why can't we not be sober?
I just want to start this over.
why can't we drink forever?
I just want to start things over.
I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
trust in me and fall as well.
I will find the center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
just enough to bring you down
trust me.
Mother Mary won't you whisper
something but what's past and done
trust me.
I want what I want

Crying Shame
The circle of life goes round and round
We plant the corn and we cut it all down
And we pray for rain, yeah we pray for rain
And these Illinois towns, they all look the same
Sister hollered Daddy better go start the car
Brother's in trouble at the neighborhood bar
He's been drinking again, that old Black Jack D
That boy'd better learn to let that whiskey be
Angry words flyin', blood on a knife
My God he's got a pistol, run for your life
Somebody please help me understand
What goes on inside a jealous man
And oh it's a cryin' shame
Who are we gonna blame
It's another crazy fool with a gun and a bottle
Lord it's a cryin' shame
Finger on the trigger connected to a brain
All full of trouble and liquor and pain
It's a fact of life, it's sad but it's true
That boy believed that's what he had to do
I heard that gun and you know what it said
It only said one thing it said "Bang and you're dead"
It breaks my heart so see a boy go wrong
Somebody sing me that old jailhouse song
And oh it's a cryin' shame
Who are we gonna blame
There's a man lying cold on a dirty barroom floor
Lord it's a cryin' shame
Preacher man talking to the people in black
No prayer I know will bring a dead man back
But the Lord is wise and the Lord is kind
Two mothers crying, thinking the Lord is blind
I heard that gun and you know what it said
It only said one thing it said "Bang and you're dead"
It breaks my heart so see a boy go wrong
Somebody sing me that old jailhouse song
And oh it's a cryin' shame
Who are we gonna blame
There's a man underground there's a man in the jailhouse
Lord it's a cryin' shame
Is it the man is it the gun is it the bottle
You tell me who are we gonna blame
Now there's a man underground there's a man in the jailhouse
Lord it's a cryin' shame
