Antivirus suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I had Kaspersky for several years and was quite happy with it, but as of mid-last year they quit updating it (worried about the Russians, I guess.)  It was replaced by UltraAV until the Kaspersky subscription ended, which is right about now.

Any suggestions for a replacement?  I don't need a lot of bells and whistles.  I have a single device (a PC).  I don't need a password manager, though I could use a VPN.  Norton Standard seems to fit the bill, but reviews say it has abominably many popups, continually tries to upsell, and has lousy customer service.

McAfee and BitDefender may be good alternatives, or maybe even resubscribe to UltraAV.  I just don't know.  I would assume that this forum would attract responses from the most knowledgeable GS-ers.

Can you help?

George

I have been using Norton 360 and find it good.   Best part for me is the telephone support ...  if you don't mind them remoting into your computer when there's an issue, they will fix it and did a couple of times for me.     I got used to the pop-ups after awhile.    Here's a search for you on their products and if it were me I'd start with the cheapest... anti-virus for 19.99 and see if you like it:

I was a fan of Panda's free program, and ran that.  I hated the interface- I like to make a lot of the decisions, but Panda is simplified and I can't pick and choose. However, I like the reliability and could not argue with the results.   For reasons involved with program interactions with an obscure program, I was required to have Avira on this machine. Rather than try to run both in different ways, I switched to Avira, with which I was already familiar.

So, I have 2 suggestions about 2 free antivirus programs.
