The show, overall, is as silly as a Supergirl show must be. But it really does seem like the writers/showrunners finally decided to be, well, good. To trust their audience to grow a little. This was, finally, good storytelling. Not just passable. Not just ok. Actively good.
Arrow was born with its footing, and the storyline in the first season was terrific. The show had to change to accommodate the fantastical elements the became necessary when Flash was introduced as part of the same universe. Flash didn't find its footing until a few episodes in, but it was clearly and obviously planned from the start.
I honestly think episode 8 is a turning point in the Supergirl series, though. It's the episode where the writers say "Thanks for sticking with us. Now let's have some real fun."
I've liked "Supergirl" from day 1, and it's only gotten better. The various characters are believable (in a comic-book-suspension-of-disbelief way). There is a good mix of punching stuff and interpersonal drama, without getting soap-opera-y. The divergences from "DC canon" are reasonable and, occasionally, pleasantly surprising.
I'm guessing that you haven't seen the episode that aired last night. But the beginning of the last scene had my "Spidey senses tingling," and the end of the scene proved me right. When you see it, tell me that you saw it coming, too.
And I agree about Hank Henshaw. Maybe the "real" HH will come back as the cyborg...
The Captain and Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" was probably my favorite song from the 70's. Great to hear it as a backdrop to a bar fight!
I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as Arrow or Flash, but not bad by any stretch.
I don't know the comics, so I'm not familiar with Rip Hunter, but I think placing him in 2166 seems a little too soon. But whatever.
In the comics, he's Booster Gold's son, which would put him in the 31st century. I think that the "Legends" would feel more relevant trying to stop an apocalyptic future 150 years hence, rather than 1000.

I don't think Booster KNOWS that.
It was a plot-point that time travelers who know your origin can try to
go back and erase you.
I liked the "Welcome Back Kotter" rerun on TV.
I personally would have liked to have seen a woman spinning in place
with a light-flash obscuring her instead!
DC has the rights to that one, I think...
While we watched, I accompanied the Jax/Stein disagreement with
"I ain't getting on no plane, Hannibal!" when he collapsed.
Jax didn't see it coming, but we did. I saw it by the time the
glasses were raised- Mrs Wolf expected it sooner.
Mrs Wolf thinks the Dr Who references are too transparent, but then,
she's a Whovian.
Ok, Ray doesn't always walk around with the armor, but can't he walk
around carrying SOME gadget in case of trouble?
(BTW, other than 1 Agent Carter, we're caught up on TV at this moment,
and I'm trying to fill in my Marvel movie holes- which should be done
when I finish 'Winter Soldier.' We just watched "Ant-Man" and I caught
"Thor 2" and began Cap 2, I just saw the mention of Dr Strange.)

It was a direct quote of the LoT "Invasion!" episode,.at 6:20. "Darmok and Jalad at Tenagra!" "I'll take that as 'have fun storming the castle." "Oh. For real? You're gonna use Princess Bride

That's what happens with Ralph Dibny in the mix. (Of course, Gypsy's dad was a hoot, too.) George

Thanks.
I'm behind on Supergirl, but caught up on everything else. I should be able
to catch up within about a week.

Conveniently, the only Supergirl episode I missed was the one they re-ran last night, so I'm all caught up.
Is everybody else caught up?

I'm not. I'm going in official airdate order and am watching the terrorist bomb.
(It was out of order in the US but not other places.)

Are we caught up yet? At least, with the 2015 episodes?

Yes-I've about 15 minutes of the last episode left, "Blood Bond."
That's a 2016 episode.
Nice surprises about the guests in previous episodes- the RT and seeing John show up.

You can't go wrong with the Martian Manhunter.
He was there for Clark in "Smallville," and now he's there for Kara in "Supergirl."
I think it would be a great touch if he demonstrates an affection for "Chocos" cookies...

We all knew not to trust hank Henshaw.
It really surprised me to see the secret he was hiding.
Considering he was "the cyborg Superman" during "Reign of the Supermen",
this was really a complete shocker.
Making Maxwell Lord a tech genius works, but it's a little lazy, IMHO.
He's supposed to be another media genius who HIRES all the techs.
I guess there's only room for ONE media darling-
but it would have been interesting to see Cat Grant and Max Lord
marshall their media muscle and rattle their sabers at each other.

*sighs* No, haven't seen it yet.
Signal me when the other shows resume-
Arrow, Flash, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Legends of Tomorrow.

Oh. OK. That wasn't a TV reference, so I was a bit confused. As for the movie, I liked the way Marvel's Agents of SHIELD worked it in.
