Felix Felton Paul Daneman Orson Bean Nicol Williamson Norman Bird John Le Mesurier
Bernard Cribbins Michael Beatie Ian Holm Martin Freeman
Leonard Nimoy once sang a ballad about this character.
(I really thought this would be a short turn....)
Those last 2 actors should really be the giveaway. (According to him, this character came out of a bag, but no bag went over him.)
This character appeared in 2 stories, a stand-alone novel and a follow-up story. Those 2 stories inspired entire entertainment franchises, not even counting the movies that came much later. "Good morning!"
I really have no idea. Your last clue makes me think of Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn, but I can't picture a bunch of British actors playing either of them.
George
Tom and Huck are well-known in the US. This character is NOW well-known around the world- but most especially in New Zealand. Becoming that big a deal in a country is no short order, let me tell you. IIRC, this character appeared in 5 out of 6 movies (I don't think he was in the middle one.)

Orson Bean was in the Rankin-Bass theatrical cartoon. Ian Holm played him in the LotR movies, and Martin Freeman played the young Bilbo in the Hobbit trilogy. Leonard Nimoy sang "the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" some time ago. (I heard it in high school.) ("Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins, the greatest hobbit of them all.") " The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" inspired lots of books and things, and the entire Dungeons and Dragons game system, setting, cartoon, movies, etc, etc. Although there were a few name changes- hobbits became halflings, ents became treants, and so on.
Name the role played by these actors. Heck, I'm going to make it easy.
Steve Reeves Mickey Hargitay Arnold Schwarzenegger
Dwayne Johnson Lou Ferrigno Kevin Sorbo
Ryan Gosling Reg Park Ian Bohen

Mark Hamon? (In Spanish, "jamon" with a sound like "hamon" means "HAM" in English. In Spanish, the letter 'j' has a sound like a hard h.) Mark the Ham?
As for the current round, no need to jump to the obvious answer. "Arnold Strong" was the original billing for Ah-nuld when he played this role. The studio didn't think "Schwarzenegger" would work for US audiences. They dubbed his voice, too. Then again, I heard Jean-Claude Van Damme's voice as the Canadian Frank Dux in " Bloodsport", and perhaps the studio was on to something with dubbing AS.
This role is "HERCULES."
AS was introduced to US audiences, IIRC, in this role. Kevin Sorbo played him in "Hercules- the Legendary Journeys. I'm sure Lou Ferrigno played him in some version, but I don't know which. I don't know about the other actors. Disney had a movie and animated series, so that's room for 1 or 2, and Trans-Lux (who brought you "Speed Racer" had a Hercules cartoon I used to watch.
Yes, Hercules. Ferrigno played him in a movie by that title in the late 80s (I think). Dwayne Johnson, about a year ago. Ryan Gosling starred in the TV show "Young Hercules." Ian Bohen played young Hercules in the Sorbo show. The others were body builders who played Hercules in the 50s and 60s. Hargitay, by the way, was Jayne Mansfield's husband and the father of Mariska Hargitay.

He was looking for it to use as a clue in a game round a few weeks after he was looking for it. Meanwhile, I hope he posts the next one soon.

Well ... yeah. I was about 15 when it came out. (Saw it a couple of years later, when I was in college.) Fonda DID win the Best Actress Oscar for the performance. George

I suppose it would be, if I knew the Nimoy song...

Or you checked my last post for a clue, that might help. Failure's sting can be sharp.

So...no one watches NCIS?
Not to mention that when he was Robert Caldwell he was People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive."

Didn't you mean Mark Harmon? A typo error maybe, otherwise no, I haven't watched NCIS before.
