Off topic a little I was scrolling around looking at something in this thread when these names came up.  It was posted by you WordWolf in 2015 not identical clues but almost.  So that's just random isn't it?   So since this is in this thread I'm not considering that cheating I just want to get in here to post.  Would you agree WordWolf?

If "The Professor" is how the character is remembered, he may be Professor Roy Hinckley, scoutmaster.  If so, that would make this actor "Russell Howard".

If not, those either have to be 3 roles one actor played, or 3 actors who shared the same role, for this thread. I have trouble picturing an actor calling himself "The Tender Bar"- but that's no guarantee there isn't one. I mean, Prince named himself an abstract symbol for a decade.

Dropping a hint.  I don't think this actor's list of credits reveals very much so, he played Elliott Ness in the TV series "Time Cop".  I've heard of the movie but never the TV show.

I watched Time Cop, but it was a long time ago, and Elliott Ness was not the main character (might have been a guest star).
