I give you three character names, you identify the actor/Actress who played them. Or if you're in the mood, give us three actors who played the same role, and we have to guess the role.
Try not to be too obscure, but no need to make it easy. Ready? Go!
John Dillinger
Tom Hanson
James Barrie
I only recognize one of those characters, so I couldn't begin to guess the actor.
Three actors in search of a character. That character being
Sherlock Holmes
Up next
Seymour Parrish
Sean Maguire
Daniel Hillard
Hints: the character of Seymour Parrish was VERY well received by critics. But the movie he was on was not exactly a blockbuster. I'd be surprised if you had not heard of it. I'd be surprised if you saw it.
You have all but certainly seen the movie featuring Daniel Hillard. He's actually the title character, in a manner of speaking.
The actor won an Oscar for portraying Sean Maguire.
FYI: If you need to give MORE characters, please make them obvious to move the game along. This actor has had so many roles, but you never think of him as his character names. He's too much of a presence for that.

He was looking for it to use as a clue in a game round a few weeks after he was looking for it. Meanwhile, I hope he posts the next one soon.

Refreshing the page after submitting works, too. George

Well ... yeah. I was about 15 when it came out. (Saw it a couple of years later, when I was in college.) Fonda DID win the Best Actress Oscar for the performance. George

Oddly enough, at first glance, I had no idea.
Then I read George's comment and started identifying the characters, if not the movies.
When I stopped to recall "Tom Hanson", I thought it was the Jump Street character.
Ok, let's see...
Hopefully, it's not too easy.
Jeremy Brett
Basil Rathbone
Robert Downey Jr

If I can back up for a moment:
Seymour Parrish: One Hour Photo
Sean Maguire: Good Will Hunting
Daniel Hillard: Mrs. Doubtfire

Based on the fact that Mel hasn't played a lot of characters played by others, I'm gonna take an educated guess and say
Hamlet

That was indeed "HAMLET."
David Tennant did a version alongside Patrick Stewart as King Claudius.
Mel Gibson, IMHO, spent the most time of the versions, speaking and moving
as the character, and not as Mel Gibson. I was quite shocked and impressed.
(If nobody got it, I was going to mention 3 more actors and then it
should have been obvious.)
Ethan Hawke's "Hamlet" set the thing in modern society, with a corporation
at risk rather than Denmark. (No, I haven't seen it.)

No idea about the first role, but the other 2 are definitely "Sean Penn."

Well, since Sean Penn was Conrad von Orton in "The Game," I assume that these are roles played by
Michael Douglas
