The love interest is possibly Dr Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman, an Aussie.)
I keep thinking of "L.A. Confidential", but it's odd if a movie about L.A.
had all these Australian influences. So, I've got nothing so far.
I suspect that, since Raf included her in his last list, that the love interest was Kim Basinger (Vicki Vale) and the villain was Danny DeVito (Penguin).
This was the first movie in which a father and daughter in real life were each nominated for an Oscar (he for best actor, she for best supporting actress). He won, she didn't. He was sick when the Oscars were handed out, so she accepted on his behalf. He died shortly afterward. Yes, they played a father and daughter in the film. The actress who played his wife/her mother also won an Oscar for best actress.
But the film did not win Best Picture. That award went to a movie now better known for its theme music than its story.
In this movie, a father and daughter portray a man and a girl who may be his daughter.
He was not nominated for an Academy Award, but she won the Best Supporting Actress award, beating out one of her co-stars.
He and she were both nominated for Best Actor/Actress (Musical/Comedy) Golden Globes, though neither won. She did win an award for Most Promising newcomer.

She was (and is) the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award. And, at 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 58 seconds, her performance in this movie is the longest to ever win an Academy Award in a supporting acting category.
A single actor portrayed both the bootlegger and his brother the Sheriff; he had just a few weeks in the shooting schedule to lose the weight for the Sheriff role that he had deliberately put on in a short period of time prior to shooting the bootlegger's scenes.
Upon a quick glance at your previous post, the father-daughter involvement made me think "Paper Moon," though it was obvious from the details you gave that it had to be a different movie.
This action movie is believed to be the first major motion picture to feature a cell phone. The title character is eight years older than the actor who played him. His co-star was 10 years younger than the character he played. The age of the latter character is a famously repeated plot point.

How big of a cell phone are we talkin' here Raf? In the original Wall Street movie Michael Douglas is walking on a beach somewhere in a foreign country using a cell phone the size of show box. I want to say Die Hard but that don't fit in with the rest.

Both "Wall Street" and "Die Hard" have MAIN characters, but neither has a TITLE character.
I have to check dates. Pretty sure this one came out before either of those. By the way, the title character has a name. However, his name is not the title of the movie.

Human without the bean
Why didn't you say that 2 days ago Mr. Wolf? Your right Rottie, They are pretty good. Makes it tough on me to get my 2 cents in.
Human without the bean
I was way off going with "The Terminal", except that it didn't have any articles of clothing in the title. I assume WordWolf is correct, but I'm not familiar with it. But that's not unusual.

Stallone. Also well-known for reprising his Rocky role. I can't see him in Eddie Murphy's role in BHC, though... George

It was L.A. Confidential.
Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce were the Aussies.
Kim Basinger won an Oscar.
Lana Turner featured in one of the few genuinely funny scenes.
Guy Pearce: "Shut up! A hooker cut to look like Lana Turner is still a hooker. She just looks like Lana Turner."
Kevin Spacey: "She is Lana Turner."
Guy Pearce: "What?"
Kevin Spacey: "She is Lana Turner."
Lana Turner: Throws drink in Guy Pearce's face.
You're up, WW!

Ok, it's time for a little movie trivia.
The titular character (technically, the 2nd of 2 titular characters,
but most people wouldn't notice) is played by an actor, of course.
That actor is a fan of a soccer team-the same team of which Pope Francis
is also a fan.
In one scene, the director wanted an actor to scream as his character
was fatally stabbed with a lung wound. The actor REFUSED. He explained
that such a stabbing makes it impossible to scream. What happens if you're
stabbed like that is that you struggle to try to get a gasp of air just
as you're dying. He then acted out the death exactly that way. Some actors
are more bad@$$ than the characters they play!

Of course, now his death didn't match the source material, but the fans didn't
complain-not TOO loudly, at least.
Due to a few details left out, John Noble's character has less of a motive
for being a schmuck, so he just seems like that's who he is, not that he ended
up like that after being manipulated.
Also in the movie was the great-grandson of the writer of the source material,
and someone got to shoot and kill the Director on-camera.
I bet the rest of the principal cast was jealous it wasn't them shooting...

I wasn't sure about the theatrical cut, since they seem to show that scene whenever it airs
on TV.

Royd Tolkien's a fan of the books, and got to spend enough time with Peter Jackson
that Peter put him in the third movie. Jackson himself was in each movie of the
trilogy in a don't-blink moment, but in the third, he's distinctly on-camera for
several seconds and could be recognized in the theater. (I did.)

The Best Actor winner had only been nominated one other time, 41 years earlier. He lost to Jimmy Stewart.
But for THIS movie, he wore a hat that once belonged to his co-star's husband, a two-time Best Actor Oscar winner (in back-to-back years).

Henry Fonda won his Oscar. He wore Spencer Tracy's hat in the movie. He lost in 1940 to Jimmy Stewart.
Katherine Hepburn, who gave Tracy's hat to Fonda, won Best Actress.
Jane Fonda lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar but accepted the Best Actor award for her dad, who died a month or so after the ceremony.
Chariots of Fire won Best Picture that year.
You're up, George.

Rar, what were the two movies that Spencer Tracy won his back to back Oscars for? Was one of the Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?
