The titular character (technically, the 2nd of 2 titular characters,

but most people wouldn't notice) is played by an actor, of course.

That actor is a fan of a soccer team-the same team of which Pope Francis

is also a fan.

In one scene, the director wanted an actor to scream as his character

was fatally stabbed with a lung wound. The actor REFUSED. He explained

that such a stabbing makes it impossible to scream. What happens if you're

stabbed like that is that you struggle to try to get a gasp of air just

as you're dying. He then acted out the death exactly that way. Some actors

are more bad@$$ than the characters they play!

Also in the movie was the great-grandson of the writer of the source material,

and someone got to shoot and kill the Director on-camera.

I bet the rest of the principal cast was jealous it wasn't them shooting...

(Yeah, that wasn't really a clue, I just find it fascinating.

Saruman's death didn't match the books, but that was a minor complaint for the

fans. And Lee knew the details about killing a man that way.

Due to a few details left out, John Noble's character has less of a motive

Denethor, Steward of Gondor, just seems like a schmuck in the movies. In the

books, both he and Saruman have been messing with the Numenoran Seeing-Stones

(the Palantiri), and that allowed Sauron to mess with their minds over time.

(He booby-trapped the things.)

Royd Tolkien's a fan of the books, and got to spend enough time with Peter Jackson

that Peter put him in the third movie. Jackson himself was in each movie of the

trilogy in a don't-blink moment, but in the third, he's distinctly on-camera for

several seconds and could be recognized in the theater. (I did.)

This was the first movie in which a father and daughter in real life were each nominated for an Oscar (he for best actor, she for best supporting actress). He won, she didn't. He was sick when the Oscars were handed out, so she accepted on his behalf. He died shortly afterward. Yes, they played a father and daughter in the film. The actress who played his wife/her mother also won an Oscar for best actress.

But the film did not win Best Picture. That award went to a movie now better known for its theme music than its story.

But for THIS movie, he wore a hat that once belonged to his co-star's husband, a two-time Best Actor Oscar winner (in back-to-back years).

A single actor portrayed both the bootlegger and his brother the Sheriff; he had just a few weeks in the shooting schedule to lose the weight for the Sheriff role that he had deliberately put on in a short period of time prior to shooting the bootlegger's scenes.

How big of a cell phone are we talkin' here Raf? In the original Wall Street movie Michael Douglas is walking on a beach somewhere in a foreign country using a cell phone the size of show box. I want to say Die Hard but that don't fit in with the rest.
