After some further checking, I discovered that Latin does not have a letter "J". It seems that it's often substituted by the letter "L". So, then, this raises the question: Why issue a recall on said coins at all? Why not simply issue an explanation?

Twinky
It was probably supposed to have been a letter "I" as in Iesus not letter "L"
And whoever was in charge of "proofreading" the design for the medal didn't do his job correctly.

Right- capital I was used instead of a letter that was invented later- J.
So, Iulius or Iesus, and so on.
