The kid pitcher is "Rookie of the Year." I assume (from the 365 days clue) that the other movie begins with "The Year" (or just "year"). I don't remember if Mel Gibson was in this movie (I think Linda Hunt won an Oscar for portraying a man!), but let's try

A boy is inspired at a private school by his English teacher, but later loses focus in life and just works as a clerk in an appliance store. He finally begins to focus his life when people begin to turn into zombies all over Britain, and he tries to save his friend.
I'm trying to string together a coherent story description.
I can TRY to reverse it, but it sounds more awkward that way.
Ok, let's see......

Ok. It's got a lot of detail, so I was confused at first. It sounds like 3 movies or shows because "Big Trouble in Little China" is that kind of movie. While humming the theme song, I was eventual

I was hoping Kristen Bell and the obvious Mars reference would do the trick.

No, this is all movie, and is, in parts here and there, a bit of a comedy.
(On both parts.)

"Shaun of the Dead Poets Society"?

That's it.
As a comedy-horror movie, Shaun of the Dead succeeds in at least being watchable
and has some good moments. It's worth watching once.
Dead Poet's Society is a favorite movie of mine. As a "dramedy", it is a drama
with some comedic moments. Robin Williams has little screen time- as suits his
supporting character well- Keating is there to drive the story, not star in
the film. (Naturally, someone I knew refuses to see the movie to this day
because they're certain they already know what to expect of Robin Williams
in a role. Naturally, they're wrong.)

This one "pushes the envelope" a bit (again):
Michael Myers sees people according to their characters, not their real physical appearance (before he kills them).
