Why does it matter? We do know that he "borrowed" ideas from plenty of other people. a quick look at the wikipedia article on Barth shows that he was widely respected as a great 20th century philosopher/theologian who put several unconventional ideas forth. It's not unreasonable to figure he met the guy, whether Barth thought it was a big deal or not.
Reminds me of the movie Pretty Woman when Richard Geer was trying to buy that old guy's business and he said he knew a senator who would keep something in appropriations indefinitely, but he was bluffing; just used the senator's name to stall for time.
It doesn't really other than he was always saying to "speak the truth".
There are several places where he seems to have had a real problem with truth, and stretched, changed, alterred or just plain made things up for some reason or another.
Re: snow on the pumps
I dont really care all that much if he met Barth or not, maybe he did, maybe he didnt....just asking to see if anyone has catalogued this.
VP had such flights of fantasy its hard to tell where he told the truth and where he didnt.....
Much of his reality, and what he taught his followers to emulate, was an illusion that he created around himself.....something that many followers and those that were exposed to him still do
He died December 10, 1968. When was da class filmed? late 1967?
Kinda interesting that da vicster made this claim when this character was not around for much questioning..
another thought.. didn't he pronounce Barth's name with a "th" at the end? Barth's name was pronounced "Bart". You'd think with a meeting with such a "great man" da vicster could have at least got it together enough to pronounce his name right..
Oddly enough, I was thinking about this just a few days ago, wondering if that reference in the class was based on fact or just made up to inflate VP's credibility.
I've also wondered about his alleged missionary trip to India and the healing he talked about performing on the train. They gave him the key to the city of Jabalpur and all that. Anyone know if this really happened or not?
According to the wikipedia article on Barth, he lectured at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1962. That is where Vicster supposedly got his Masters in Theology, albeit I think a bit earlier than that (???). Perhaps he went to one of those lectures, or one at the University of Chicago in 1962.
This is an interesting note in the Wiki article too:
he made the point that the Church's willingness to side with anti-socialist and conservative forces had led to its susceptibility for National Socialist ideology.
hmm given that Vic liked the JBS and other neo-Nazi-like organizations I guess VPW did not listen to everything Barth said.
While not endorsing Communism by any means, Barth did not like the Church getting so wrapped up in its hate towards Communism and Socialism,
I regard anticommunism as a matter of principle an evil even greater than communism itself.
@Ham- with Weirwille's German background he should have known better regarding the German "th". It is pretty much always pronounced as a "t". I feel certain he did not spend any significant time with Barth. Probably a handshake in a receiving line after a lecture or something.

I met Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets. Does that make me an authority on WWII?

I think about the only time da vicster wasn't greatly exaggerating or outright lying was when his lips weren't moving..

No doubt there------Barth's basic foundation to all christianity was the trinity.
Given that I have heard VP state several times that trinitarians were possessed, I gotta wonder either
1) why VP would even bother taking into consideration something spoken by someone he doctrinally considered to be possessed or
2)How confused, inconsistant and unintegrated Wierwille's belief structure really was....
