i truly loved the people i was in the way corps in residence thing with
must have been because we spent so much time together in misery lol
but i mean it, i love them a lot
I wish I could say the same...My memories of the folks that I was in residence with are not good ones. I recall a lot of arse kissers, egomaniacs, and ladder climbers. Many of them are still in off shoots, drinking the koolaid. Friendships were all conditional and less than genuine...at least was my experience...but what else should I have expected from a cult.
Maybe I'm missing something here. I don't see anybody trying to paint ALL of them with the same paint brush. When you look at a high school year book, you have memories of the "group", but, don't you, also, consider how they've all grown in different, individual directions? Isn't that part of the attraction of face-book for many people?
Didn't LCM wipe the 1st WC records clean and then give out honorary membership to it? I am sure that he and the "fox" (RFR) agree with the attempts to wipe the slate clean.
It's history, even if it is Way history and what little time I was able to spend with some of the original 1st was time worth spending. Those are memories I don't regret, not like time spent with some later WC national leaders with huge egos and bigger mouths...........
My dear departed Dad and I had an argument when I was a rebellious teen. I argued how "fake" and bad all the church members were and I didn't want to go to church with them any more! Dad stated, something wrong with every one else? Then you need to go to church and help all those horrible sinners find their way back to a righteous path..........
Whoa... There's an unexpected blast from the past.
I knew most of them from the time I was in high school, several of them very well and we were friends over the years.
All of them truly were individuals. I look at Del and remember when I wandered into a motorcylcle store with my little sister in high school, he was there (for some reason) and safely escorted us out.
I remember in residence, when he was there, on summer nights we'd go out, sit on a hill and he'd speak of God - profound. How many times does a nobody kid get to hear a prophet's heart? (yes, I believe he did have a ministry - one of the few who really did).
Carla - adored my young sister, and when VP would send the corps witnessing in my town, she and others would stay at our house. She was such a blessing.
Randy - during the CG meetings near the end afer POP - he was the first one to say - this is BS - enough - and walk.
Bo - I could always hang out and talk to him, through him got to know Stanley - who was just a gem.
I've often thought, VP should have stopped after the 5th corps - shut it down.
They were leaders and ministers.
After that, the corps became this huge program to bring in more money for TWI.
Those early people were part of the "jesus movement" from the mid-60s to early '70s - a true revival, with called out people by God sent to reach a generation - these are the people that VP "hijacked" - so to speak.

Shortly after Howard Allen's letter, in August 1997.......twi removed the specific corps designations in attempts to marginalize the damage of the first corps no longer standing with twi. For example: underneath the picture of a corps grad who had written an article in the way magazine -- Mr. Joe Believer is a 1979 graduate of the way corps.
See, publicly....the trustees were NOW not spotlighting the 1st corps, 2nd corps, etc.... they were designating THE YEAR but not the group. More generic, more blah, more blunders.

Yeah.....when those inrez corps numbers got 325+ and about half of the "elder corps" were at the Emporia campus.....it was more like herding people around.
Even before I graduated....I thought twi would be better served to have 60-75 corps max each year. And, if that eliminated me......so be it. Clearly, a more selective process and focused training would yield spiritual quality, no?
But, hey....years later did I finally realize that they WANTED a production mill and indoctrination camp for faithful instructors of pfal classes.....NOT leaders.
Let's finally get beyond stereo-typing and pigeon-holing people, shall we?
I didnt mean any offense, Im just curious what they are doing now. I never knew any of them so i cant really comment on them
In regards to the 'Rev" comment, I know of too many people that jumped out of TWI but decided to keep their REV title and start up basically the same type thing with a few minor differences with themselves as 'the leader'.
Which at least to me makes no sense if they knew that the organization they came from was foul.
I know of at least one poster here, who had a desire to serve and went back to a real seminary and got an accredited and recognized ordination, which to me was avery respectable thing to do.
I really dont care that much, like I said I never knew any of them i was just curious what any of them may be doing...whatever it may be--hopefully theyve all learned enough so it just not Way 2.5

At ROA 1993 one night LCM said that Gary Curtis, who had been the last 1st corps still standing had left, so there were no more 1st corps, so he made the trustee family (Don, Wanda, Howard, and Emogene) honorary 1st corps. Fitting that Howard would write that threatening letter to Bo. "Hey! I'M the 1st corps now! You get out of here!"
