Stay "tapped to the root".....was the twi-marketing slogan.

God forbid that you decided, independently, to spend your week (or month) studying something from the scriptures that was intriguing you. You see....the mog was adept at knowing what all the followers needed from Maine to California.

Even today.......the OFFshoots use the same ploy. Oh, the messaging might be less in-your-face, but the tactic is the same. The elitism is more subtle and hidden a couple of layers below. If you're not hearing THEIR teachings......you're missing out!

A few weeks ago, I pointed out to an ex-twier that his group had the same elitism that twi had.....and, in backtracking, his response was "Christians should not forsake the fellowshipping with other Christians." Of course, the trinity issue and the "dead are dead" issue are the biggies for not just attending any church.

And the wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round.........

Exit questions:

1) Why do ex-twiers get so adamant on the trinity.........and NOT adultery?

2) Does there need to be solidarity of like-mindedness to enjoy christian fellowship?

3) In listening to offshoot teaching tapes/cds......are you "tapped to the root?"

1.Why? Because, pretty much everyone else in the world understands that adultery is wrong. On the issue of the trinity, however, opinions are as varied as -------some kind of stuff that's really varied.

2. I suppose on this one, the key word would have to be "likemindedness". What does it really mean? Does it mean you all share the exact same opinion on everything? No divergence of interpretation? Well, that doesn't sound like any kind of "fellowship" I would enjoy, Christian or otherwise.

3. Here, again, what is "the root"? What does it mean to be "tapped to it"? I mean, I don't mind a good tap beer from time to time. A tap root beer, though? Not so much.

On as more serious note, though, it's really about maintaining a certain level of self delusion. Like doing sit-ups every day or something. Gotta maintain the proper muscle tone or the old six pack might start to look like a pony keg.

Speaking in tongues is like that, too. Gotta speak in tongues, much, every day or your spiritual connection will get a short circuit. You'll be left alone in the cold dark night without a flashlight, naked to the breeze.

Self delusion. Use it or lose it.

TWI said...."Stay tapped to the root"....Christians say..."connected to the vine." One means stay tapped into a cult(wouldn't want that abs wandering off)....one means we are connected to Jesus Christ. Similar terms...entirely different meanings. One promotes a relationship with a group and was a marketing slogan which sounded Christian....the other term firmly identifies us in our relationship to Jesus Christ as Christians.

We didn't just disagree with the trinity....we mocked it. We sang songs about it. I remember being a WOW and playing some music tape....and I can still remember my complete disdain and feeling of utter disgust for those trinitarians....idolaters. I think there was something about flipping the bird in that song? Either way...I just knew they did not understand what they believed....I sure didn't.

Funny thing....I do now believe God is a trinity...I do see it in scripture...everywhere......and that is what changed my entire relationship with Jesus. It changed my entire understanding of the scriptures. That is me...I am not trying to convince anyone. It did take just considering I might have gotten that one wrong as well....but, that is my experience.

I skipped church today though.... :)

1.) Its the greatest mystery in the world today :)

2.) absolutely not. I do NOT go to church, but I work in churches of many different denominations and types all over the country. We might disagree on alot of things but almost without fail we get along great. I actually like people that dont have the "this is the way it is period and you better believe it because I am right" mindset.

3.) Tapped into the root the same way a root sucks nutrients and life from the soil. Its a money generator.

In the 80's, the last time I had a tape subscription it was $5 a week for a tape that probably cost 20 or 30 cents to produce. With postage, they made about $4.00 profit off of each tape.

Multiply that by 1000 or 5000 or 10000 (mandatory subscriptions you know) and they were making a pretty hefty sum EACH WEEK for mindlessly duping tapes and making labels.(Pay some drone 50 cents an hour to do it too)

Multiply that times 52, then add in all the series, special tapes, tapes of the month, University of Life that you just have to listen to and pretty soon you can buy an airplane and a college campus or two.

Nobody is tapped into any root, the root is tapped into them, matrix style, getting its $$ and increasing its control

Twi's slogan in the mid-70s......"Life of the ministry is in the Twig"

Am I remembering that correctly? It sounds so ludicrous now.....

Put another way.........ministry's life = twig

What about YOU?

What about Jesus as lord?

I think the answer is obvious. Why the stand against the trinity? Rebellious youth. Huh??? Consider: Saint Vic cherry picked a lot of beliefs in da vey so they would be intentionally contraversial. Then his followers, the rebellious youth, weren't getting their parents percieved stuffy religion.

Another point is he touted da vey as a bibical research organization. It would carry more credibility if it came out and said, "This is were legitimate religons are screwing up. Only we have the truth. Only we know what the true bible says. Step right up and sign on the green cards dotted line."

Then there's the issue on enlightenment. People would not consider Saint Vic enlightened if he didn't have hidden secrets that were revealed to his followers. Bye bye apostle and prophet gift ministries. Oops there goes the teaching gift ministry. Honestly what's The Teacher with nothing to teach? So, he taugh and told us we knew more Word than a church pastor. Unfortunately, like most people claiming enlightenment, he was enlightened in the art of bull.

Why no stance on adultry? That's pretty self explanatory, too. If you said adultry was evil, how could you invite all those women into Saint Vic's motorcoach.

Even now this continues to be a thorny issue. If the ministry came out against adultry how could it, with a straight face, call ,itself a Christian organization after Saint Vic and the Craigmeister. It would have been built on foundations of sand from the get-go.

I get on just fine with other Christians...because I concentrate on what we have in common, not what doctrinal differences cause division. I don't find the need to spout off about things that I might believe differently, if they don't seem receptive. Who am I to condemn another's servant? Who am I to condemn my brother in Christ?

I never thought about what profit there might be on the teaching tapes. But you're right. A nice little moneyspinner. Even if you only made $1 on each.

Can't remember how much the Way mag was but that also must have made a healthy profit. No costs really. Staff articles already paid for (in staff salaries) or from occasional field staff. Photos from staff photographer. In house production. Printing costs not huge. I think they said it was the price it was because there was no advertising to defray the costs. But actually...all the costs were pretty much all paid anyway.

Ridiculous as well when they expected everyone to have their own sub, not just share within families etc.

Huh.

BTW there are any number of good-quality church mags available FREE on a two- or three-monthly basis. Good thoughtful articles, too.

1) Why do ex-twiers get so adamant on the trinity.........and NOT adultery?

In my opinion, the "Trinity" is always an easy issue to keep Christians divided, and adulteryrequires confronting practical and practiced Christianity, which many are loathe to do. Practical Christianity tears down walls of hypocricy and artificial dividing walls. (Adultery does not equal to acting like an adult)

2) Does there need to be solidarity of like-mindedness to enjoy christian fellowship?

In my opinion, our solidarity should be with the Lord Jesus Christ and what He said to do (by your fruits you shall be known. Jesus Christ did not demand loyalty to the synagogue, but to the words he spoke.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock...
3) In listening to offshoot teaching tapes/cds......are you "tapped to the root?"

I have been listening to Sid Roth (http://www.sidroth.org) and the things that his guests have made available and others. In my opinion, there are so many wonderful things that the Lord is bringing into the earth -- and it's not to any one particular group of people other than that selfl-defined "group" of those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. There is just so much goodness of the Lord He is making available. This week I was listening to David Allen on Sid Roth's "It's Supernatural" show (can hear it online. I don't have tv anymore). David Allen was teaching about translating from place to place and how we are going to need to be able to do it more and more in the days ahead. I'm going to be working on this one to see if I can get my mpg on my car up because I have SUV and it doesn't get good gas mileage. I just think that God is still into us for fun, but there are lots of other of His children who are out there to play with and have fun with getting to know the Good Lord more and more. Sid Roth also has had some wonderful teachings on speaking in tongues, and the benefits, and multiple people who have spoken in tongues and have had it understood by those who heard. Not just a long-time-ago-I-heard-of-this-happening-in-a-foreign-country stuff but Sid Roth's partner/supporter on the tv show did this for her mom. Others also who make the whole walking in supernatural love and grace right now reality. :) The people I see practice the Christianity they preach. Last nite on the "Billy Graham Classics" (TBN also available on pc) I was just hungry to hear that good old story, Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever, He died to save you from the fires of hell, and there in the Pittsburgh PA three rivers stadium (which was torn down in 2001), Billy Graham spoke the timeless words he is famous for holding fast.

ps. Enjoying other Christians other than twi ones is what got me into trouble with twi years ago and still does with many people in and out of twi. Twi is not the only bunch that likes a closed circle of friends.
