edit: it didn't come out of Sun Records, it came out of Stax/Volt -- but it may have been recorded in Muscle Shoals instead of Memphis. I'm going off th etop of my head.
This is off topic but I thought, as it's related to authorship, some might find it interesting.
In 1951, Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats released Rocket 88, a song that has long been viewed as the very first
Rock & Roll song. However, the band did not actually exist. This is really Ike Turner with his saxophone player, Jackie Brenston, providing the horn and vocals.
Sorry, neither. This one's a challenge. You need to go back in history to around the 30's. A very common name, and the writer was African-American and a guitar player. I'll give it up tomorrow evening if no one guesses.

Nice try, BA.
My first guess would be Otis Redding.
My next guess would be Isaac hayes.

Great stuff. That was the first Otis Redding album I ever bought.
Okay, having fun here...
Who wrote "In the Midnight Hour" (made famous by Wilson Pickett and covered by many, including the Grateful Dead)?

Okay, the answer is Robert Johnson, long long time ago, redone by many artists, not the least of which was Buddy Miles.
Here's one that should be a lot easier. Let's try "My Girl", most notably by the Temptations.

Nope. It wasn't Dave either. Or Steve Cropper. :)

I think Sam Cooke had already left the planet by the time Soul Man was released.
