Word Over the World?

V.P. and others often talked about taking the Word Over the World. A noble idea I guess. To rouse the "troops" we were told that The Apostle Paul, "without the aid of newspapers, television, satellite, newspapers, etc. was able to take the world over the known world in 2 years and 3 months. To back this up, he quotes from Acts 19:10 where it says in the King James. "All they which dwelt in Asia heard the Word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. He says Asia refers to Asia Minor which was the known world at that time.

That is not true. "Asia" as spoken of in Acts 19 was a Roman province. It included such places as Ephesus, Corinth, and Galatia. It did not include Rome, Israel, Antioch (which was in Northern Africa) or Eurpope. Yes, they knew about Europe even back then. The Romans had troops in Gaul, and Paul talks about his desire to go to Spain. The NIV is even more clear regarding this matter. There it says, "...all of the Jews and Greeks who lived in the Province of Asia heard the word of the lord." You know for someone who harped and yelled about reading what was written, sure didn't practice the same principle himself.

Please understand, I'm not dismissing Paul's accomplishments, I'm just saying it wasn't the Word Over the World in the first century.

The people of the Middle East were aware of much of the world. They certainly knew about Africa and India and Russia and probably China and the Far East.

The Romans (and therefore Paul) were well aware of the Britains and Germans since at least the time of Julius Caesar.

The Scandinavians had traded with Egypt since around 2000 B.C. and they traded with and were well known in Bagdad.

Colossians 1:23:

23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

The verse could be parsed to mean that it was "every creature" that Paul was "made a minister" to.

Paul did enjoy an occasional embellishment.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

Literal meaning according to pukage

I remember it being said that the next one to take the class and s.i.t. twi style could be the last one to trigger Jesus Christ coming back (as if he left).

It was just a gimmick to get us to increase our "sales". (Green Card sign-ups)

If it had truly been about making The Gospel accessible to as many people as possible, most of the policies involving money would have been taken in a whole different direction.

Yup, "Word Over the World" was supposedly a goal, but it was more like a slogan. What did it mean? That there would be a twig fellowship in every city? In every country? That every single person would have been witnessed to? Every family? How would you know that it had been achieved?

Even at the height of TWI's numbers and geographic reach, there were vast parts of the world where TWI folks had never been, heck, even in the U.S. there were plenty of people who had never even heard of TWI, let alone been witnessed to or been offered any kind of "choice" to believe or not believe.

Then King Okie announced in the early 90's, with a tear in his eye and a catch in his throat, that the Word was Over the World. This was less than ten years after, by his own admission, 80% of the people and leaders of TWI had walked away. When ten states in the U.S. had either no TWI members or so few that they didn't rate their own appointed official leaders. When even within states with a TWI presence there was often just one anemic fellowship made up mostly of aging grads and their kids. This was rationalized by saying that the Word was available in all 50 states and that every region of the world had some kind of TWI activity...

And then Martindale brought up the (entirely legitimate) point that Word Over the World was a goal, not a vague thing to just talk about...but never was

Since they, or some of us, had the "World" perceived as only part.

Then is it worth looking into the perception of what "The Word" is,

and even "over" becomes questionable.

Word Over the World was nothing more than a successful corporate strategy and slogan for TWI. They haven't had another one since.

Paul had a ministry to the Greeks because his own Hebrew brethren had their little hierarchy and wouldn't accept him. So he traveled. Many have tried to mimic this to set up kingdom's of man's influence. Some have succeeded more than others.

This is the first 60,000 'letters' of chromosome one of the draft public domain human genome, formatted in arbitrary 60 column lines. This represents a portion of the structure of the double helix DNA molecule. Each letter in the text (A, C, G and T) represents one 'base pair' of nucleotides. They are called pairs because each nucleotide has a complementary one on the other strand. The letters are grouped into sets of three, known as 'codons'. Each codon is translated into one of 20 amino acids. The sequence of amino acids determines how proteins are constructed, which are the building blocks of all life on earth.

If you want to be picky, this is actually an arbitrary set of base pairs from an arbitrary human chromosome. However, this particular sequence is of historical importance, because it was at the start of the first file of the human genome project released to the Internet.

Strangely enough, the symbol for medicine since distant antiquity has been two snakes entwined in a spiral pattern around a staff. Foreshadowing? Ancient knowledge? This coincidence has yet to be explained.
