hm, yeah you got a tough one there

go to this site register, log in and post a topic

it will take guidance from a pro to walk you through the steps to take

good news is it can and has been dealt with with combofix and another program

both which needs a pro to help you with them and follow their instructions

a thanks is all they would appreciate

Cman, thanks for the links. I went there but then fixed it by doing something really simple before getting started. I changed the homepage, which just added a tab and everythiny was still the homepage. BUT, THEN I deleted everythingy in my tabs section and they stayed deleted this time after I hit apply and ok.

Whew. That was soooooo wierd. Thanks so much for your help. You are a fantastic friend to everyone here at gs :)

waterbuffalo,

the problem is probably still there

i think anyway, hiding...

i'd download, install update and run the free version on full scan of Malwarebytes

if you don't have it already

you can run it before you go to bed or work, it may take a bit

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

and thanks for your kind words

i appreciate being able to help

cmann, I ran the free version of something, but it wasn't malwarebytes. Musta downloaded the wrong thing by accident. It said it wanted me to buy something, but I didn't. Supposedly it fixed 100 things for free. I don't know what it was, but I'm running malwarebytes now. How can I find out if everythingy is still in there? It doesn't show up in add/remove.

hm, buy something huh?

that doesn't sound like Malwarebytes doing

and found 100 things? possible i suppose

i'd post the problem at geekstogo.com

or register and post here, same good help

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?&&CODE=autologin&fromreg=1

"everything" will not show up easily

you need expert help

they can work with you until you get a

"clean bill of health"

it's a forum not chat so there is time between posts

if your time is limited to working with them

let them know so they stay on board with you

and they will until they have checked all options and problems

this will involve downloads and instruction

so take your time and keep them up to date

they will ask for reports from different downloads they give you

these two sites, their registered techs

geekstogo and bleeping computer are experts and can be trusted

make sure they have the tech icon with their name

which should happen

occasionally a novice will try to help

wait for a real tech

it may take a day or two for them to reply

they get lots of calls for help

and have solved 100's of problems like this

state the problem from the beginning

What your OS is, windows XP or whatever

and what you have tried

and that you want to make sure this thing is gone

set aside time to do the instructions

take your time

your computer is still working so that's a good thing

and that will make it go faster

sounds like a lot to do but it's not

it will be easy cause they know what they are doing

and just choose one site not both

they are associates,

so they would know if you posted the same problem at both sites

sound doable?

Yes, thanks for all of your help. BTW, it's called MemTurbo4 - PC Optimizer. I accidentally downloaded it and when I went into add/remove, it said it is still running and it won't open up. It's also in my program files. Should I delete the Program file?

Don't do anything.

Get professional help.

This is getting deeper into trouble with this new program.

The experts advise is no mem or pc optimizers.

These programs make more problems then they solve.

And I use to use them till I got burned more then once.

Link to this thread in your post at geekstogo or bleepingcomputer.

Along with what has happened from the beginning of the problem.

Type it out in an editor like Word if you want to.

Then copy and paste it into a post under the right topic.

And the right topic is easy to find.

"MemTurbo4 - PC Optimizer" - they can help you get rid of that one as well.

It's a scam, you received an unsolicited ad for a program.

Your computer is hijacked.

you ok?

hey, it happens, compromised computers....

many people don't even see trouble till it's so far gone that you have to reload your system from scratch

which is okay if you can save what you want to keep

these guys will do everything possible to avoid a reformat and reloading the entire operating system

the link is-

when you go to a web site

you are being followed by scumware

be it Malwarebytes or anywhere else

Malewarebytes link is correct that I posted.

It goes to Malewarebytes only-no popups or ads for anything.

I posted on the forum this afternoon. No one has answered. My thread is on page three, now.

They will get to you.

Give them a day or two.

It's a free service they provide.

I forgot to mention that.

But they are well qualified.

I could not walk you tjhrough the steps to take,

Or read the reports that these special programs produce.

I'm wondering what they find as well.

For the record and for reference, this is what the Malwarebytes site looks like, and the next pic is the download site. Or it will go to 'MajorGeeks' for the download.

If you didn't get the first site, the Malewarebytes site, you were redirected by an infection, trojan or something that is not supposed to be in the computer.

cmann, yes it was WHILE I was downloading from their site above that the other one appeared and didn't look like a pop up (I have pop ups blocked). But then after I downloaded it, I noticed it had a different name than malwarebytes. I then clicked out of it and malwarebytes download was still there so I downloaded it and ran it. MemTurbo is a free 15 day trial. I'm going to call them and then stop messing around with it. It took up my whole day yesterday and I solved nothing.

Cool, glad you got it out.

What concerns me is this-

yes it was WHILE I was downloading from their site above that the other one appeared and didn't look like a pop up (I have pop ups blocked). But then after I downloaded it, I noticed it had a different name than malwarebytes

That should not happen. Which means the problem was there before your download.

Lets see what geekstogo says. If they don't answer by tomorrow, I'll do a post in the missed post section pointing to your thread. They have a reminder topic area.

Anyway it certainly won't hurt to let them check it out. And without a rush to post it's easier. They all have jobs like us and do this on their own time.

I have your geekstogo thread on my desktop so I'll follow along with it....

btw the name of the Malewarebytes download is "mbam-setup.exe"

Yes, that's the one I downloaded again this morning. I'd deleted it yesterday after running it just to see if I could since the other one wouldn't go away. I'm running it again now.

There could be a silver lining in all of this in that malwarebytes found LOTS of adware and got rid of it. I used to have a free program that I used along with spybot that got those, but it's not free any more. I think the name was ADaware or something like that.

Should I assume that everythingy.com is gone? Still wonder about that. Thanks for following the geeks thread.

Well not only 'everything.com', but what came with it.

And what is still there from what you just got rid of.

"A Clean Bill of Health" is what you want from your thread.

Plus you had that ask.com problem a while back.

Sometimes things are waiting to be triggered by terms used on the net.

And you get some rogue dangerous offer that looks good but is not.

Possible programs they will have you run-

Anti rootkit programs, of which there are a few to choose from.

other programs-

one called ComboFix

another is DialaFix

and HijackThis

These will produce a text report for you to save as a file and upload to the thread.

Then they can instruct clearly what to do or if there is anything there at all.

This is one thing I found about some of all this.

http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md5=1dfba99c40646b6307f969520b210a67

So being thorough would be wise....

Oh yeah. So, while I was trying to find out if everythingY.com was gone, I've gotten into worse trouble. Big sigh. EEEEEE! Thanks cman. Hope this ends soon.

I'll post in the missed threads on Friday.

Need to give it 3 days to post there.

Your second post may have less attention for it.

Although you were updating your status and not intentionally bumping it.

And I know what to say to get their attention.

I've done well over 100 posts on this site.

So some of them know me.

You just need checked out for any problems.

Which they can do easily.
