O.K., this has little to do with the topic, but to my knowledge there is no newspaper around here with the name "Seattle Washington News". There's the "Seattle Post Intelligencer", but that's gone strictly online now, and then there's the "Seattle Times".

But I've only been here for 50 years now, maybe I'm missing something...

Still My question went to the old Guilt by association thing (as others have surmised),... besides, Not even the Way trained People to fly airplanes into buildings

No, but there was a fringe element in The Way that did not believe in paying income taxes. I have no way of knowing if she was in that circle or not--but her husband sure had some issues with it

Guess there used to be a department dedicated to the way planes. . . We shall bring our Wayferdumb over the world by air

Like there was "Way Stewardesses" or something.

Some of the tools in the shops still have "Way Planes Dept" or whatever etched on them.

I don't believe the building they were in was owned by the federal government. And likely the new offices will also be in leased space.

I'll be expecting the Tax Hike to pay for a new IRS Building anytime now....

oops

Hmmmm well that is interesting now the questions remain was it really her involved or was it him... NEwspapers do get things wrong sometimes... and it happens enough that you have to question it. I doubt hse was out there trumpeting her involvement with the way. and since the rest of them are just repeating what the first one said you do have to wonder what the truth is!

The truth is that unless one is the person that is being referred to is here and talking, pretty much everything else is speculation or rumor.

The woman was in for a grand total of 4 years. We don't know when those 4 years took place. We don't know about her level of involvement during those 4 years. We don't know what precipitated her exit. We don't know how that information was transferred to the newspaper. We do know that mentioning a religious cult gets people's attention. It appears to be largely anecdotal as was her music and prior marriage.

The guy obviously had some money, or at least liked to spend money. He owed the IRS interest and penalties. The issue wasn't being resolved to his satisfaction, so he plowed his airplane into a building killing himself and another person, leaving his wife to deal with the aftermath, who happened to be in TWI for 4 years at an undisclosed time.

Not a one of us admits to having known her or her situation, so it's not as though she was all that important in TWI-land.

I don't think one had anything to do with the other, and we (of all people) should take care when we speculate about other people's former involvement in TWI.

In speaking on the "fringe element" at twi......a little bit of history is in order. Back in 1975-79, wierwille and co. were purporting paranoia and conspiracy theories involving our federal government. From the wierwille camp and corps coordinator podiums, the way corps HAD to devise a secret location in the event that the "Red Dawn" happened (government overthrow, foreign or domestic). All MAL-paks (more abundant living backpacks) were cross-checked by twi leadership to have all supplies necessary.

While inresidence, I remember two "Red Alerts" to guage the response and readiness of the corps. We were to meet in top floor Wierwille Library in ten minutes for briefing of "the emergency." At times, there were hush-hush instructions given to others on a "need to know" basis.

To the corps, wierwille publically stated that if cult hysteria continued to build, the corps would be the first to be hunted down by the FBI and government authorities. And, anyone who spent any time around any of wierwille's bodyguards got a heavy dose of paranoia and government distrust. Add to this, the mandatory assigning of 4-hour "bless patrol" to the corps, the red-alerts, the regimentation of following commands, the "us versus them" teachings and training, and lockbox teaching all feed these fringes.

One of the family corps guys, FC-7......was a military veteran and munitions specialist. At the rock of ages events, we were assigned near each other through the years. In 1982, one of his roa duties was to crawl under the main stage daily and inspect it for bombs or other threats.....wierwille personally gave him this assignment.

The corps indoctrination immersed many of us into this paranoid/suspicious mindset.

Just curious if TWI was ever classified as subversive in anyway by gov't? Probably too small time to matter, but still. . . . . it would be interesting to know.

That is a good one for the old resume. "Former Subversive."

Yes

Uhhhh I love the humor but....NO. Remind me of the tale of the embassy guard and the term subversive when on the phone some time.

I'm all for not trusting the government. That is as American as apple pie. But, egads, talk about going off the deep end. What I find ironic is our founding Father's fought a revolution and established a free, constitutional republic. The Way International does not advocate getting involved in the proper, civil channels for changing things for the better and they shun any political activity as "worldly." So instead they want to go around acting like they are God's little cornfield militia.

For the record, the paranoia remains deeply entrenched in the upper echelon cornfield leadership. However, the paranoia seems more directed at some disgruntled person coming after Rosalie or one of her lapdogs. Guilty conscience perhaps? I doubt it, but I do find it amusing. To my knowledge, no one is actively pursuing all the pseudo-revolutionary non-sense that Wierwille and other's were after in the mid to late seventies.

Thats more or less what I was curiously wondering about the Mrs.

The point in the articles may be an innocuous throw away line because they had nothing else to put in there -or it could indicate some more--maybe yes-- maybe no.

I do know a few exwayfers who even though they threw out the more crazy way doctrines did keep a strong hold onto the anti government paranoia.

Its not really that much of a reach to see how "birds of a feather" could end up together or that Miss Strange Cult Doctrine could wind up feeding Mr. Paranoid's dark vision.

Its all speculation at this point (and probably forever really)but I could see how it could happen.

Any group that has an annual day to burn books, music and old things because they contain devil spirits leaves itself wide open to a lot of strange possibilities.

Maybe they will look at TWI a little closer. The truth comes out sooner or later.

How it gets there is always unpredicable.

i like this thought because the article could be that "always unpredictable" thing that gets the way international seriously investigated, so that's a good thing in my mind, but then again that's happened a few times already, hasn't it? so anyway i don't get the whole reason for bringing up the wife's involvement either but if it somehow gets some investigation to shine a light into the darkest corners of the way international i say great, and in this day and age it probably will at least put suspicious way international people on "no fly" lists and that is probably a good thing, and maybe even get some of the "lost" registered sex offenders "found" and back on "active" listing and stuff like that, so maybe the mention is worth something.

Yes, I would agree that the paranoia....after 1981....was more directed towards a disgruntled follower or, possibly, an angry husband who uncovered twi's sexual predation.

Remember, at the 1986 November Clergy Meeting at HQ......Cgeer went to the podium packing heat! Standing before twi's clergy household, Cgeer believed that he NEEDED A GUN to protect himself. Imagine the level of paranoia that existed for him to have succombed to this point!?!?

And, of course......the documentation on Waydale of P@ul All3n's encounter when he demanded to meet with Craig Martindale and the trustees. In meeting in martindale's office at the corps chalet with R3ynolds and Rivenbark, martindale's bodyguard Lind3r stood to the side brandishing his glock 9mm.

Anyone who spent any time around twi's security personnel or receptionist desk know the security measures, the coded language, the lockbox information, the radio transmissions, etc. that escalated this paranoia in the secret world of the MOGs. I got several glimpses of it through the years.
