Twinky
Anyone ever read the Darwin Awards, for the stupid things that people do (usually fatal)? Well, here's one that wasn't fatal...but it certainly wasn't very smart... (Just received, from a local Police Bulletin service that I've signed up for.) Police Arrest Shocked Green-Fingered Film Maker (Bridgwater) ADDED: 20/02/2009 13:12 Police Officers in Bridgwater arrested a 25 year-old man on Wednesday 18 February after they were tipped off about a drugs factory by his own home videos! Following information that a man in Bridgwater had foolishly been uploading videos of his home-grown cannabis plants to the popular public access site "YouTube", police were more amazed to see that the man had slipped up further by even using his name as his "internet handle". Having obtained a search warrant based on the evidence gathered from the offenders own on-line videos, officers searched his home and seized a large Cannabis plant and associated hydroponics equipment used for growing the substance. The male had been videoing the growth of the plant over a number of months and uploading his horticultural endeavours onto the site to document its growth providing Police with fairly conclusive evidence. The arresting officers reported that the offender was extremely surprised at his arrest and more so to find that the Police had gathered information from the website. The male admitted the offence of cultivating cannabis, a Class B drug and has received an official Police warning. The Cannabis produced by the single plant could have had a potential street value of up to £500; both the plant and growing equipment will be destroyed. PC Adrian Peck, Field Intelligence Officer for Bridgwater Police Station said, "The cultivation of cannabis is illegal. If you break the law and are foolish enough to then advertise your criminal activities on the internet, it makes it very easy for the Police to catch you." ... Steve!
Umm, the Darwin Awards are ALWAYS awarded posthumously, for taking yourself out of the gene pool. This is just another stupid criminal story, like the bank robber that wrote a holdup note on the back of his own deposit slip.
Twinky
I think there are some living recipients. If "living" is the right word...? Or perhaps they're just honorable mentions, or also-rans? Yeah, another stupid crim. Kinda like hanging out a sign saying, Come and get me.
