You know, the poor pay and housing conditions wouldn't have mattered at all - if only it was part of "having all things in common." You know, if LCM hadn't been living in luxury in the Chalet but in one of the trailers, like the other families - perhaps sharing with another family. Or they lived in Founders Hall and shared a kitchen with other staff. And the BoT got their new clothing from Plurality Palace. And their vhehicles were hand-me-downs from other generous supporters.
I don't recall any staff members having much money spare for discretionary spending. Especially golfing fees.
Didn't the requirement for a pay cut take place after PoP when a lot of people left? Then, supplies of stationery, etc, were all centralized and people had to ask for a single pen. (That's good, in a way, because people can stockpile huge amounts of surplus stationery in individual departments.)
Notta, How horrible it must have been in WP to have to transcribe LCM's Corps Night rants, when he really let off steam. Did you have to do it, expletives and all?
They were rich in people and poor in pay. Staff worked very hard, but some I know were also desperately bored because there really wasn't the work to do at certain times of the year.
I wasn't privileged to transcribe Corps Night because I wasn't Corps. Looking back, that was ahuge blessing and God spared me. We had WC in the office who were the only ones who could transcribe WC related items. I did more than my share of STS, and we trasncribed word-for-word, even cuss words. They would usually get edited out by Way Pub for whatever purpose they were using them for.
I am mad at myself that I kept reproving myself aobut my attitude when I didn't want to work so hard for so little money. I bought in to the whole thing that God would bless me double for my service. I never saw it. Of couse, they would say my believing wasn't there. Honestly the way I see it today, I allowed myself to be used just like everyone else at HQ. Your most inner self doesn't like that, but the cult mentality didn't let you think in a common sense manner. I constantly told myself I needed to renew my mind.....NO MORE!!! Nobody will F**K me over again.
Sometimes I leave typos in my posts. Then I think about N*ancy H*arne. She would cringe..... She's a wonderful person, but she's blinded.
By the way, LCM almost never wrote any article in The Way Mag. They were all rehashed teachings from Sunday Teaching Services. President's Publications would get the transcriptions and started marking them up to form it in to a magazine article.
Pres Pub should have been grateful for that. In Way Pub, we used to have to edit the stuff he actually wrote himself. It wasn't easy, and his sec'y, bless her heart, guarded his words like a pitbull, whether they made any sense or not. She'd present these convoluted arguments about what he meant, and we'd say, "It doesn't matter what he means if no one can figure out what the heck he means." LOL now...then, not so much.
LCM ranted a lot about grammar, spelling, etc. Yet he was not as educated in the English language as he should have been. I knew many who wrote him notes and received them back with his marks correcting their grammar and spelling.
When we typed quotes for the staff newsletter, we were constantly discussing if we needed to change his incorrect grammar. Do they change a quote so the MOG doesn't look like the uneducated indiot he was? A classic example of he use of words is he would start a sentence with an objective form instead of a subejctive form i.e.: "Us leaders need to be examples."
I hated the discussions about this kind of crap. Only in Way World would this be an issue like it was. I never worked in such an anal-retentive place.
Printing Services was completely the opposite. I couldn't believe the amount of screwing off there was in that department with a cabinet overseer who had blind eyes.
This is the place from which God's Word eminates?? This is the place with the BEST workers in the world or the BEST of everything in any category? I look back at how TWI promoted itself as THE BEST in so much. I hardly think it to be the case.

I remember at a Limb meeting or somesuch (I think it was in Des Moines) LCM - in the middle of a tirade against a Wayfer singer for some perceived breach of spiritual code - was reading from a newspaper article and came upon the word "impunity" and had no idea what it meant. He actually had to ask the crowd for it's definition. That was my first indication that LoyBoy wasn't as bright as he was being promoted. It wouldn't be my last.
Do they change a quote so the MOG doesn't look like the uneducated idiot he was?
Well, actually he wasn't an "uneducated" idiot. He's an educated one.
I never worked in such an anal-retentive place.
Oh GAWD, ain't THAT the truth. And about EVERYTHING too. Remember getting reamed for just using the words "create" or "luck"?
I couldn't believe the amount of screwing off there was in that department
You shoulda seen WayBuilders during my tenure ('87-'89). Our most difficult job of the day was usually running into town for doughnuts.

This is where WayWorld is far from unique IMNSHO. Religion is always a scam. I don't care what the brand. They're peddling nonsense, so they have to dress it up in fancy clothes for the sale.
...When I was in the corps, I never had to worry about having my job cut because they didn't pay me...I paid them.
I spent 4 hours a day walking around with a screwdriver in my hand looking for chairs that needed to have nuts tightened. It was an awsome responsibilty...afterall, I wouldn't want to see someone sit down on a chair and have it collapse on them, sending them tumulting to the floor because I had failed to do my job.
In my 13 years of involvement with twi, I never received one penny for ANYTHING that I ever did for them...
A pox on them all...I hope that they lose every dime they have and end up sleeping in cardboard boxes.
I think they did have some "cuts" a few years ago.. they double up or even tripled the duties of some "executive" type of "employees" to that of cleaning parking lots, mopping up oil spills from "wowmobiles", and the like..
unless they just purposely tried to humiliate executive types..
Be fair, Ham. Give some examples if you think this is true.
When everyone was getting ready for RoA (early 90s), I saw quite a few of the "executive types" out offering to help for the evening work sessions. And also working hard in the day, on things that wouldn't be their "normal" work. They did it because they wanted to. RoA prep was a very busy and generally quite fun time.
There were other "executive types" who also volunteered for extra work but were doing their normal jobs on evening overtime.
Maybe I still have rose-tinted glasses in that area, but I do think there were "executive types" who genuinely had a heart for the work who weren't in the inner corrupt circle.

Agreed... but ROA/Corps Week was a special, fun time of year. That doesn't mean it happened the rest of the year 'round. For the most part I saw the peons work their buns off and the big-wigs watch (I mean 'oversee') and complain about how we weren't doing it right.
Over 300 staff at twi hdqrts?...Scheesh! Isn't that about 10% of the whole organization?
There's mega churches with 25,000 members that have far less staff members.
I would compare it more to David Koresh and his isolated commune...What was once built upon the charisma of a cult leader is now sustained by the money made during those years. Word over the world has been replaced with circle the wagons and live off of the money...A betrayal to all who ever supported this nefarious organization.

In so many ways.......twi's structure seems like a throw back of the late 1880's England era where savvy businessmen/investors/lords lived apart from the city life and their factories/sweatshops choosing large estates in the countryside. The mansion/minion structure afforded the "master" supreme control of his world......complete with butler/house administrator/kitchen staff/housekeepers/gardeners/farm workers/etc. and extended properties and cottages and horse stables.
The factories and sweatshops grind out the work and fuel the investment capital of the "master of the mansion." Layered by supervisors and managers, attorneys and business associates.......the workers never see the personal leisure and life of this country squire. Their lives are consumed with the daily struggle of work and family.....and fear of loss and survival.
Twi's "household" is certainly NO household........at least, not in any practical sense. IMO.......no true household would be exploiting its "family" in such manner. No full sharing. No heart-to-heart communication. No togetherness of experiencing life. No concept of the struggles and challenges. Only by spiritualizing the term "household" is twi able to justify such a teaching, a manipulation.
Yep.......the mansion/minion resemblance seems about right. Maybe, not horse stables.........but harleys and motorcoaches and planes, oh my!
It definitely is not and was not a household. When I was on Staff, there were many times I felt lonely. I would be stuck at HQ during Christmas because I couldn't take vacation to go home. You would have thought that all the people who enjoyed my FREE baby-sitting services during the year would have invited me to their home to hang out, play games, etc. I never once received such an invitation.
I always felt I was giving and never receiving. My glass became empty. I decided to stop the FREE baby-sitting. I would tell them all I had other plans, and it was true. I decided I would at least get out somewhere on weekends. Then I got a note from one lady who said, "I thought maybe you didn't like us anymore since you don't want to come over." I was never invited as a friend, only to baby-sit. I felt pretty used while at HQ. I didn't give to receive, but I am surprised at how much self-centeredness I experienced there.

With $55m in the bank (see other threads), they could afford a very superior cardboard box!
