I'm just trying to think of movies where governments are overthrown... and nothing fits that description. This is a well known movie, I presume? I mean, if UHF is doing a parody...
That's it. The overthrow of British rule was non-violent, but overthrow, nonetheless. Gandhi was in trouble with the British on a number of occasions, but I think it was the salt product that really got the protests going.
"Jason X" (Friday the 13th part 10)? It took place in outer space, so...

That does not deal with the god reference though you are close on part of it. Jason was the name of the Hero who sailed in the Argo. Hows on Earth did they manage to spin that series out for so many films? Think I only saw the first one!
I'll have to give this one some thought. Sadly, though, it's gotten to the point that I don't WANT to "win" in this thread, because it's so hard to come up with new ones. :)

OK, let's try one more time...
Teenage girl falls for creepy old guy who routinely kills animals to take his mind of his desire to kill people instead.
Remember, part of the description is SUPPOSED to throw you off. It's not just a plot summary: it's an accurate but misleading plot summary.

Maybe one of the "Twilight" films. I haven't seen any of them.

This will make it (perhaps too much) easier:
Recidivist scofflaw overthrows his government after being imprisoned for starting a salt manufacturing business.

I hate this game...
Here's an obscure hint. In the movie "UHF," there is a parody "trailer" for a "sequel" to this film.

It won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Actor, along with a few others. Early '80's.

Could it be Ghandi?
He led the march to make salt which was against the law of the British Raj.

What's really funny is that Friday the 13th part 4 was "The Final Chapter"!

It was OBVIOUSLY "Romeo And Juliet"....
until the Romeo character killed the Juliet's BROTHER.
In R&J, Tybalt is Juliet's COUSIN. Raf isn't going to make
a mistake that big when he can catch it so easily.
So, it's a Romeo & Juliet TYPE story where the Romeo
kills the BROTHER of the Juliet.
