Dealing With The Devil

In my pre-TWI days I read a book called Dealing With The Devil.

I'm not sure if it was the one by C.S. Lovett or not.

This would have been in about 1969 or 1970.

The book has long since disappeared from my collection.

One of the main ideas of the book was that you are supposed to memorize scripture and speak it directly to the devil when he attacks. It reminds me a lot of the retemory concept.

Is anyone familiar with this book?

Maybe it's just a coincidence that the title is so similar to Dealing with The Adversary, I'm not sure.

I do remember, though, that the "On-Guard!" concept was there, though it was not stated in those words.

Any thoughts or recollections along these lines?

Yea, well the similarities are there:

The Dead - Asleep or Awake?

And from the front page there is an interesting little tidbit:

Personal Christianity began in 1951. The Lord called four men together as a prayer band and shortly thereafter gave them the ENCOUNTER-METHOD of soul-winning. It was put to the test In street-meetings, jails, missions as well as an intensive bedside ministry at Los Angeles County General Hospital. So effective was this plan, so simple and easy to use, the men believed It could be used to build a church.

Not judging the outfit. Just making note of the possibility that he may have had an influence on the victoid.

Dooj, just checked the site. Lovett's picture makes one wonder if he isn't related to VPW(eerily similar facial features). At least he and his partner actually worked in the "real" world, something Wierwille and Martindale(until his defrockment) never had done in their lives.

Is that because they might have HUNG out in the same dark places? :biglaugh:

Thanks, Dooj!

I remember one teaching he did about the Phillistines receiving EMERODS from the Lord Most High because they had dared to touch the ARK and so they

got to have their very own pain in the azz, and how the Victoid hooted and made a big to do about that very subject.

It could very well be he was emotionally and perhaps intellectually stunted, or it could simply be that he wanted to appear HIP and YOUNG to those that were in the Jesus Movement of the 1960's. Like Daddy-o, its way out and groovin'!
