waysider
It was in this week of 1967 that Dunhill records had to cancel their "Win a date with Mama Cass" contest because------No one entered!Heck, I would have entered just to hear her sing Dream A Little Dream Of Me.What a voice! GeorgeStGeorge
Well, I was 11 at the time. And though I was a fan of the Mamas and the Papas, I doubt a date with Cass would have been a thrill. George

waysider
I was working for ABC/Dunhill Records when she died. (As a forklift operator!!-- ) We had a big run on her records, as well as those of Jim Croce. Here's a link with her biographical information. http://www.casselliot.com/biography.htm She had one of those voices you just can't develop by study and practice. You recognize it the moment it hits your ears. Otis Redding was like that. So was Karen Carpenter and Candy Givens from Zephyr. Lydia Pence from Cold Blood STILL has one of those voices that grabs you immediately. Mama Cass died from a heart attack that was caused by her weight problem. So young, so gifted, such a shame. ex70sHouston
I remember her hating being called Mama Cass. She was Cass Elliott and don't you forget. She did have a great voice.

ChasUFarley
That must have been such a downer for her - I can't imagine. She was a gift to the music world - what a voice!
Watered Garden
Mr. Garden was always a big Jim Croce fan. Last year for Father's Day the Sprout gave him a CD of that artist's most famous recordings, as our 33 1/3 records were victims of a move.
