Some distinctive song openings, that I have recognized all my life are the theme songs from Mission Impossible and Hawaii Five-0
But to blast my stereo: Anything from Moody Blues (nods to Steve), Creed, U2, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi (don't laugh) and love the new version of American Woman and of course...!! John Cougar Mellenkamp

My vote is for Gimme shelter/Stones. From the first time I listened to it to today, that riff is so gripping.
Also for those of you who have seen the movie song remains the same/Led Zep, did you notice that...OK, first song is Rock and Roll, then Page plays that riff from bring it on home, Then they do Black dog. Why did Page play just that riff but not the whole song?
My guess is...Black dog is one of few rock and roll songs that doesn't have a musical intro; it goes right into the lyrics, therefore Robert Plant need to get his pitch. If you're a jr high/ high school choir the director can just pull out a pitch pipe and give each voice their note, but if you're Led Zeppelin? Uh, definite image problem there, so the last note of the riff from Bring it on home is the first note of Black dog. Ingenious!
As far as songs go that don't start with music, I saw Styx do Renegade few years back, but it was the first song of their encore, so Tommy Shaw could have gotten his note by turning down the guitar a bit and hitting it seconds before they walked back on stage.

Don't know about the BEST opening, but as far as one that makes me wanna crank it up as soon as it starts, THIS would be one!

Def59: That Clash song is "Train In Vain", which has to be in the running for the title that has the least to do with its song.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic port,
Aboard this tiny ship.
I could swear I just saw the light go on - are you sure no ones home??
