I think what she means is that "I loved her first" is a FATHER-of-the-bride song, and was wondering if any songwriters would like to take a crack at writing a song from a mother's point of view. She offered "I loved her first" as a "guide" to the kind of thing she was looking for.
Great idea! If I can come with something, I will, but I'm rusty. Waysider? dmiller?
Cindy, if that's the case, you could post some of the things in your heart that you might like the song to say, besides what you already have. Just whatever you feel you'd like expressed about your heart towards your daughter and her importance in your family.
Waysider....I have plenty of time.....a year to a year and a half. Not sure about the record/perform part of it yet.....at this early point....just looking for to write it.
Sudo...thanks for the suggestion.....but not quite what I'm lookin for :)
Dan....my kids and I used to call ourselves a "Nation of Five" cuz it was just us there for each other, through some really bad times....and we are still very close. Jessica's hubby-to-be is a wonderful person who has been deemed worthy by our family to enter into the "nation"...which with him and Steve is now a nation of 7!!!
Jessie has a very sweet heart, a good head on her shoulders....she and I have never had the teenage fights that most parents and teens have. We have our private jokes that seem to get sillier and more fun. The latest have revolved around her bringing her kids over to see grandma....and grandma spoiling them rotten and then sending them back to their mom.....this scenario gets more and more outrageous as we develop it.
We talk about everything.....no subject is taboo. She and her fiance are going to have a very happy life together and I am so happy to see her with a good person.....but as is usual, I don't wanna watch her move out and grow up....but at the same time I am so proud of her for moving out and growing up into the women she will be.
Raf...Hope you Dance is a powerful one...thank for the suggestion! Don't think I know the other one, will have to check it out.
act2...don't think i've heard that either....will look around
anotherdan...and anyone else who might be able to write something....if you get something written, here's my email (starting Tuesday, life is gonna become A LOT more busy, and I won't be able to check this thread that much)
I looked for it on youtube but the only place I could find it, it was being used as background music for someones personal montage. I didn't think it would be appropriate to bring something that was meant for a limited audience to GS.
Still, if someone wanted to check out the song, it's there on youtube.
It was played at a wedding I attended recently, a beautiful one indeed!
Not a dry eye in the place as the mother of the bride dedicated it to her little girl and they made a little ceremony of the mom trusting her baby girl to this man who now would cherish her.
It's not just about daddy's giving their little girl away anymore, unless of course the couple wish that. Anything can be done now and it sure opens up great things for everyone.
The parents of the groom are now getting the attention they deserve as well, which is great!
Oh, what a great song! My bow jr. just got married last week and I heard that line more like My son has taken a bride. Oh what an exciting time!!! I'll have to send that song to them.
Cindy! You're wise to start working on things what may seem early, but the time will most definitely FLY by! What a lovely song - I can't wait to hear what you choose, as if you don't select that one, it'll have to be an awesome song you find!!!
I don't know if Steve! is into it, but a few years back we attended the wedding of the daughter of a couple who were formerly on staff. They are both musical, he was in a musical group at TWI, and they sang a duet of "Sunrise, Sunset." It was beautiful and moving. I"ll try to find the lyrics.

Not sure what you are looking for here.
Are you looking for someone to write, perform, record or what?
Also, what sort of timeline are you dealing with?

She'll Go on You
If you've got a little girl, you better take the time
To go to her tea parties and give her a piggyback ride
Be a dragon or a dinosaur every chance you get
Cause one day you can bet
She'll go on you
Before you turn can around
And it's so lonley watchin' that
Fast train leavin' town
Better cherish her every second of your life
Cause this preacious little thing that we call time
She'll go on you
If you got a special one
You better love her everyday
Leave her notes on the fridgerater door
And send her sweet bouquets
Always be her confidant
A safe place for her to rest
Or that little thing you call you happiness
She'll go on you
Before you turn around
And it's so lonley watchin' that
Fast train leavin' town
Better cherish her every second of your life
Take her in your arms and do her right
She'll go on you
If you've got you momma there
You outta thank her everyday
For nursin' all your colds and
Sittin' up when you'd stay out late
Now all her hair is grey, and every year she's not as strong
One of these days before to long
She'll go on you
Before you turn around
And it's so lonley watchin' that
Fast train leavin' town
Better cherish her every second of your life
Cause before you get the chance to goodbye
She'll go on you
Yeah this preacious little thing that we call life
She'll go on you

no promises.... I'm out of it a long time... you better make other arrangements!
Good post, though, earlier... it could give someone with talent some ideas....
You do have my prayers that it will come together. Weddings are way cool

Back in the eighties a bunch of artists did Disney covers. Bonnie Raitt did "Child of Mine" which is the song that Dumbo's mother sings as a lullaby.
It's sweet.
I also think Martina McBride has a song you might like - I just don't know the name of it. ;)

Print: Martina Mcbride - In My Daughter's Eyes Lyrics print version
(James Slater)
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

A Song For My Daughter
Marc Cohn
Just once upon a yesterday
I held you in my arms
You grew into a little girl
with lovely childhood charms
Now it seems I only turned around
And I see you by his side
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My Daughter is a Bride
I guess somehow I always knew
This day would soon be here
Still I wonder as I look at you
What became of all the years
And no words could ever quite express
The way I feel inside
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My Daughter is a Bride
All the laughter and the teardrops
The sunshine and the rain
I would relive every moment, Dear
If I could bring them all back again
But now, My Love, the time has come
To send you on your way
So I wish you every happiness
And the blessings of this day
And I hope the love I've given you
Will forever be your guide
Oh, I can't believe my eyes today
My daughter - Oh, I can't believe my eyes
My Daughter - Oh, my angel and my pride
My Daughter is a Bride
