(edited to add - - - 4 of the best musicians to (currently) inhabit planet earth.)
Thanks DM. A very nice version, indeed. Who are these guys? I often see the mandolin player backing up different artists such as Emmy Lou Harris.
I wasn't aware that "White Freightliner" was a reference to cocaine but it makes sense to anyone who knows anything about Van Zandt's lifestyle. Anyway, thanks for sharing that version, I very much enjoyed it.
Anybody watch "Promise(s?)" (The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town)? It's on HBO this month.
Even if you're not a Springsteen fan, I highly recommend it. There's video (c. 1978-79?) of a genius at work. It's a joy to watch. I never knew how much attention BS paid to his sound.

Rivers always had an uncanny knack for doing covers and making them his own. This is, happily, no exception.

Garcia could play with anyone...he was that good...and he loved to. Some of his best stuff is with Merle Saunders and David Grisman...

That's Sam. In bluegrass - - - there is only one Sam. Just like there is only one Doc, one Earl, one Tony, one Bela, etc. :)
Sam Bush plays both fiddle and mandolin equally well, though noted more for his mandolin picking.
The clip I posted was "2nd generation" New Grass Revival.
Sam is the only member of the "1st generation" New Grass Revival group.
The others picking there are Pat Flynn (guitar)/ Bela Fleck (banjo), and John Cowan (bass).
The New Grass Revival was an "offshoot" of the Bluegrass Alliance. (Yup - - there's "off shoots" in music too).
Original members of NGR #1 were - - - - Courtney Johnson (banjo), Ebo Walker (bass)
Sam Bush (fiddle and mandolin), and Curtis Burch (guitar and dobro).
Courtney died, and was replaced by Bela. Ebo got himself into prison, for a VERY long time.
He was replaced by John Cowan on Bass. Curtis just wandered off one day, and didn't come back.
Pat Flynn was hired to take his spot on guitar. That leaves Sam as the last original member.
And the video I posted is the 2nd generation NGR (New Grass Revival). There you have it.
Here's a pic of three of the original members (John Cowan is on the right. He's the one who took Ebo's spot on bass)
Left to right - - - Courtney (banjo), Curtis (guitar and dobro), and Sam (mandolin and fiddle).

Here's Sam picking on the fiddle. I like the first song best, but the 2nd is really reminiscent of his NGR #1 days. :)

Here's Sam on the mando. (Like I said - - - There's only ONE Sam).

You can ask Mstar about these videos here. He was privileged enough to hear Sam with this group, just recently.
Scott Vestal with the Stealth banjo breaks all the rules, along with all the other pickers in the band. I'm jealous!

Thought of LittleHawk when I heard this tune today. This tune reminded me of him.
It's been awhile since he's been here.

I dont know why, but after not hearing or thinking about this for a good 35 years I woke up with this song in my head this morning..
It still sort of infectious--its still rolling around in there...

My latest song only a couple nights old.
Been playing around with r and b styles...
After making it I realized it reminded me a bit of Joe Fair, Smokey Robinson and errr, Boy George all rolled into one. :)
Let's Groove, RexRed
Enjoy! Dance a little :)
Edited to some of my album art and a few photos.

Very nice.
Just the right amount of "retro" flavor.
Very nice vocals, too.
You might enjoy THIS guy. (James Hunter)
