BTW--Randy California, of Spirit, used to play in Jimi Hendrix' band (Jimmy James and The Blue Flames) before they hit it big. Hendrix asked him to go on tour when he formed Experience but Randy's mom said "no way!"
Well, he was, after all, only 15 at the time!
Sooooo-----He put together a band (Spirit) with his step dad, Ed Cassidy (the drummer)
Cassidy was already a VERY famous jazz drummer by that time.
