I have no idea why Im posting this but Heres me some doofus noodling around with the banjo after a the first few months of banging away on it about a year ago...
is another cool one Tom Petty spun on the show. The Beatles covered it on one of their first albums.
Freakin' awesome song. I believe it was their first album (3rd song).
As for "Baby it's You", I love every version I've ever heard, but my favorite is this one. Although it was a hit in 1969, it's still pretty rare. (Quentin Tarantino used it in "Death Proof".)
So i guess I'll be figuring out how to play the fiddle for awhile now since I really havent got much of a clue...maybe dmiller can give me some pointers
Jacks a quiet but very interesting guy...A few weeks ago I heard something going on outside my shop in midafternoon so I strolled outside and Jack was parked there wailing away on his harp....
Y'know I think it is --I'll ask him to make sure ---and maybe I can find the whole tune and post it (or just get a better vid of Jack)
Today the Boston Symphony is ending its summer season in my neck of the woods with Beethovans Ninth--Language pales for me to even attempt to describe it but I do know that it is always a very special occasion whenever I get the chance to hear it....I was blasting it a few years ago in my shop, a friend walked in and his first words were "If Beethovan had written a 10th symphony it would have been God".....i think I agree :)
so that'll be my 'song of the moment' this afternoon :)

This particular tune is normally blocked by copyright laws, but here's a "daily special" from a jazz site. Mr. Newman left us early last year, but his music lives on. This is as good as it gets if you ask me:
Great stuff! I'm quite fond of the Donald Byrd version as well. Ironically, the original version by Duke Pearson, the writer of said piece, leaves me cold.
Oooo, I never heard the Byrd version till I Googled it. Nice, but I gotta go with the sax version over the horn. Also, Byrd's intro has to be one of the longest in history, no?

We haven't succeeded yet in playing videos through the laptop...
though we use Powerpoint slides a lot

I scored good today... My friend Jack showed up today with an incredible handmade fiddle that he built from scratch and gave to me :o
i made an offhand remark a few months back how id love to play the fiddle --so apparently he decided to make one for me !!
its absolutely amazing to me--Im sort of in shock at the beauty and sound of the thing and the skills and overly goodwill that everyday people carry
