One of my BIGGET PET PEEVES about songs, concerns my most favorite "ballad" ever written. <div><br></div><div><b>Ginseng Sullivan</b> , by Norman blake.<br><br>The words were changed (from the original), and due to an abundance of recording the "error", it became "gospel".<br><br>Norman Blake wrote this tune. I'll provide a youTube of him doing it as originally written,<br>with an explanation of the words (as he meant them to be).<br><br>It's been done by a "plethora" of bluegrass musicians. Most sing it wrong.<br>Some get "Batelle Yard", vs "Battle Yard"/ and "reverse curve" instead of "river's curve" right,<br>BUT the MOST egregious error is - - - "it's a long way FROM the Delta", instead of "To" the Delta.<br><br>I guess I'm "pickier about song lyrics", than I used to be about the Word. So sue me. <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":)"><br><br>Here's the "popular" version of Ginseng Sullivan, done by Tony Rice (and friends).<br>Even this "stellar" group of musicians, get one word wrong, in the chorus. The emphasis of the song is it's "A Long Way TO the Delta. Tony. What a legend/ what a talent/ and what a voice.
He can barely speak (as I guess you know) these days,
but he continues on with that amazing guitar playing.
I had the privilege of seeing him in concert several years ago with Peter Rowan.
Tony could barely croak out the words "Thank You" in response to our applause.
His singing was sorely missed that night, but he made up for it with his virtuosity.
The guitar he's playing in that clip looks like #58957.
The Martin D-28 formerly owned by Clarence White, of the Byrds.
Such a sweet guitar, in the hands of yet another "better-than-average" flatpicker.

Y'know with or without words his playing can oft times, (such as the above piece) move me to the verge of tears for its sheer beauty....
