Song of the moment

nandon

Recommended Posts

From a cave, deep underground in Tennessee (I think); IIIrd Tyme Out at Bluegrass Underground.

A very good friend of mine just passed away, and this song was sung at both her and her husband's funeral's,

even though the funerals were 14 years apart. Bonnie and Tex - - - I'll see you there one of these days, forever. :)

From the same "cavern". I first met Jesse (the mando picker) when he was 14 years old. :)

Here's Jesse's older brother Shad, on the fiddle.

Shad (short for Shadrach), is one of the premier fiddlers in Nashville (these days).

I remember hearing Shad (and his brothers) picking this tune back about 25 years ago, and they did it just as good as NGR did.

And Shad had all of the Sam Bush licks (on the fiddle) down, even back then.

and yes - - - John Cowan was a member of NGR (New Grass Revival) from whom Garth Brooks got this song. :)

Garth used the New Grass Revival on his recording of it. And in his words:

"There's no finer pickers on this planet, than the NGR". beer.gif

I've probably posted this one here before, but this is the "2nd generation" NGR. :)

geisha, I love that song and always have! Here are some interesting bits of info:

The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song was written and performed by Sonny Curtis...

Sonny Curtis at one time was a bass/rhythm guitar player in Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets...

In a song called "Buddy Holly" by the group, Weezer, the chorus mentions both Mary Tyler Moore and Buddy Holly.

This is all true, though I don't know if it means a gd thing. :)

This one's 51 years old now, and still fresh. The older I get, the more I identify with the sentiments of the title...

True enough----

Great to hear some Miles ...I just read the other day that Dogfish Brewery is releasing Bitches Brew Beer in honor of the 40th Anniversary of that Miles album-

s-DOGFISH-HEAD-BITCHES-BREW-BEER-MILES-DAVIS-large.jpg

The stuff Im playing/hearing/seeing these days looks and sounds alot like

.

I doubt anyone will ever name a beer after us, although Jack brings his own wine and is threatening to crank up the still....

All good stuff!

I heard this tune early trhis morning and it put me in a great mood for all day--

There is only one--

Louis Armstrong-

<param name="movie" value="

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385">

PS--there was some talk a few years back --someone who loved Simon and Garfunkel (Pawtucket maybe??).

I'm not all that sure, but apparently live performances by them are sort of rare.

They are coming to my hometown this summer if anyone is interested ...

LINK

I am a little prejudiced but I think if you are a fan that this is the best possible place anywhere to see them....

Here's the venue:

Tanglewood.jpg

I live behind the mountain on the left, which also happens to be the place where Herman Melville decided to write Moby Dick.

Geisha, thanks. I enjoy Beatles, Monkees, Simon and Garfunkel, early Rod Stewart(thinking of Maggie May), Selah, Pressed Down, Good Seed, plus many more.

Nobody stopped to hear him

Though he played so sweet and high

They knew he had never

Been on their T.V.

So they passed his music by

I meant to go over and ask for a song

Maybe put on a harmony

I heard his refrain

As the signal changed

He was playing real good for free

Playing like a fallen angel

Playing like a rising star

Playing for a hat full of nothing

to the honking of the cars
