When Im down that way I will definitely look him up, If hes up my way he can certainly sit in my shop all day for as long as he wants and pick away...--Some days I dont know how Id ever do any work at all I couldnt take a clawhammer banjo break a few times a day--
I gotta tell a Jonny Lingo style story that I think you might appreciate.
I have a pretty good friend named Marc who is renovating an 1848 Firehouse to make into a music club. He's been working on it for a few years. Its a great place he is doing an awesome job-
About 6 months ago he called me and asked me if Id consider doing some glasswork--When I got there It wasnt much work really just design and install some funky mirrors behind the bar to fit in with the rest of the eclectic decor..so in my mind, since its a cool place and I like him, Id figure I'd just do it for him as a friend...no money, no biggie---my treat.
While I was working my few days there he came up to me and asked how much I wanted.
Me: Stop...Nuthin--this is easy--its on me. Im enjoying being here.
Marc: No, really.
Me: No seriously, its no big deal.don't worry about it..this is like a vacation..
Marc: name anything
Me: (joking) I want to sit right here(I was ina great little booth next to the stage) and see Crooked Still, on my birthday with a full lobster dinner :)
Marc--OK (smiling-walking away)...are Maine lobsters OK? (joking-laughing)
Me(aint nver gonna happen joking): well I guess that'll be OK--lots of butter though....
etc...back to work..
I forgot all about it..
That was about 5 or 6 months ago..
Well-long story short--damned if he didnt go and do it..He booked Crooked Still and Sarah Jarosz a few days after my birthday and sent me a whole slew of tickets in the mail..
The guy constantly out does me--I gotta figure how to get him back now.
If anyone ever finds themselves in Hudson, NY and need someplace good to go, good music, good food, good people check out Marc and Debs place...Helsinki Hudson.
Sorry for the long post--I just think my friends are awesome
Soul Searcher.....I love that song! It reminds me of a friend I once had.... made me happy and sad all at once and brought me right back to before I ever heard of TWI or knew what an unresolved relationship was. . . . LOL

Glad you liked it, geisha. :) It's one of my favorite JB songs.
"before I ever heard of TWI or knew what an unresolved relationship was"
Sometimes I wish I was back there again. (That would be 26 years ago.) I wouldn't have the tears I have today. Unfortunately we can't go back in time.
I have to wonder if a poor, blind, black man from the rural deep south of the 1920's would ever believe how popular his song has become for over 80 years now..
Healing Rain-Michael William Smith; Now I am a believer-Davy Jones/The Monkees; Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring-Johann Sebastian Bach
told you my musical tastes varied, contemporary praise song followed by 60's pop then classical(either organ or orchestral). :biglaugh even jazz such as ragtime, dixieland, big band(Glenn Miller, Count Bassie, Duke Ellington)
Iowe a big thank you to Waysider...A few months back he posted someone playing a cigar box guitar....The whole idea and especially the sound blew me away.
I just had to have one! Off and on for the last month Ive been building one in my spare moments as the mood strikes....
Its been fun figuring out what might work. I made it completely out of things I already had except for the tuning pegs which were 'donated' by a friend.
It has 4 strings that I have been tuning to an open G. I have had the cigar box for years and years--I opted to cut F-holes in the side instead of cutting through the top which I liked--
I play it with a slide that I made by cutting off the top of a Heineken Bottle and a pick I carved out of Ipa wood....
Im very surprised at the resonance. To me it sounds great and is very easy to play....
Play is the operative word for me...which is exactly what I do..
I play for my own fun, amusement and relaxation. Im certainly not 'trained' or probably even doing most things 'correctly' but I can connect series of chords and tones together that are interesting and pleasing to me
I play around with anything that has strings or makes any kind of sound..I dont expect anyone else would take it seriously, for me that's not why I do it...like play of any sort anywhere it's just for fun.
