From my experience, yes. They get mushy... but sweet and yummy, too.
I really like grilling veggies as kabobs and then using them cold on top of salad the next day with a little balsamic, olive oil, toasted walnuts or pine nuts and some feta... MMMMmmmmMMMmmmm. Bleu cheese works instead of the feta, too.
mmmm.... We do have very good tomato cooks here in northern New England...
Here in Australia just about any restaurant you have breakfast at servers fried tomatos. They are mushy but I look forward to eating them now when I am out having breakfast.

Nice with sausages, bacon and eggs.
Nice with grilled trout or salmon.
Nice with sprinkles of cheese on the cut side.
Nice with sprinkles of black fresh-ground pepper on the cut side.

Cut a tomato in half, brush it with olive oil and sprinkle a little salt ( garlic powder too if you like it)
Grill for just a few minutes.
Eat.
You can also do this under a broiler.

Get some cherry or grape tomatoes, and thread them on skewers... throw those on the barbeque - keeps them little buggers from falling down the cracks!

Y'all have made me want to grill!
I've gotta get the rust off my grate, first, though.

They get mushy. YOu need to put them on the grill right before you want to eat and only keep them on the grill for a minute or two.
The sugars in the tomatoes carmelize a bit from the heat - that's why they're so yummy.

Here's how I do the little tomatoes:
Cherry toms cut in half on the Equator
Placed on bake sheet, cut side up
Cover toms with Parmesan Cheese
then cover (heavily) with ground Black Pepper (white pepper gets lost - color and flavor)
Place under hot broiler for 2-3 minutes
Serve quickly.
Looks pretty on plate and tastes GREAT.
In Ireland we had cut tomatoes sauteed with breakfast, every day. Nice.

Yes, in Europe and Ireland they serve them with breakfast -- along with that black pudding -- haha.
Don't grill the tomatos too long -- just a little black.
They are mushy but yummy with your meal.
