Well yes, I just hit the Big "five-o". Oh man, half a century!! But I'm feeling pretty good this morning. Woke up to the wife singing the Beatles' "Today's yer Birthday"! And then, down for coffee and checking the GSCafe, I got to see and hear Paul McCartney sing it to me too! And thanks all of you!
Kevin
P.S.
Man that pic of me on my 21st b day seems like it was soooo long ago...
Welcome to the Nifty Fifty Club! The 50's have been the best decade of my life for me to date. Hope they will be for you, too. Wishing you a wonderful day, year, and decade!
Happy bday Mr. Lingo. Looks like Miss chattyK is tellin on you. You were a hottie then and I am sure you are still a hottie today. Hope the wife treats you well and stays away from her shotgun today. lol
Remember you are only as young as you feel. So how old is that JL?
Today has gone along just fine, with me thinking about this "fifty thing", and thinking about being a member of the "nifty fiftyclub" thing that Suda mentioned. A few times while out on the dock, I said out loud; "Fifty?" And then I'd say to myself (out loud again); "Yeah, fifty. Not so bad, eh Kev?" And I'd say, naaaa, not so bad at all, I'm only as old as I feel, and I still feel about thirty or so". And by the end of the work day, I seemed to get a handle on it and decide that all was okay, and that fifty was cool, and that any day above ground is something to be thankful for. And then I came home, and checked the mail box as I usually do, and
Oh-My Gawd!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! A letter from AARP! The Sunzabitches! Right on my very birthday, there they were waiting for me in my mail box like a veritable ambush! Yes, that's what it was, an ambush! Yeah, I couldn't believe it as my heart sank right there on the floor of my pick up truck. It didn't matter that moments before I had been singing along with Axel Rose (at high decibels with my hot new CD Stereo) the song "Sweet Child Of Mine" by Guns and Roses. I was sunk! I mean, come on! AARP?! Have they no respect for a "new old man's" dignity? Noooo! No doubt that envelope contained advertisements for Geritol, "walkers", motorized shopping carts, Depends For Men, Viagra, and alla that stuff! And so. I have not opened that envelope, and neither will I ever!
That's it, I'm goin back. No more bein a member of the "Nifty Fifties Club"! Sorry Suda, but I'm bowing out..... :)
Ah, Jonny, give it a chance. AARP is just getting you ready for 65 and all the good discounts! But it does suck to get it on your birthday. It's a rite of passage for the nifty fifty club.
Hope you're having a great time ! I hit it in a few days and I wonder how I'll be feeling. The weirdest thing is looking at woman my age or a little older and realizing 50 year old women can look really good, something I would never have thought when I was 18.
