I can't get out of bed anymore by Whitedove. Ok maybe it is not romantic but I'm old does that count?
I wanna rock and roll all night comes to mind by KISS
Ok seriously check out the Great American Songbook Collection by Rod Stewart there is a bunch ofthe oldies on those. My favorite The Way You look Tonight.
WhiteDove....................No no no no no no no, those are too recent, I want them like the ones I mentioned, you know those good old romantic mellow tunes that leave just leave you with a big happy sigh, they make your knees weak and turn you all mushy on the inside.
Click HERE! and give this song a listen. Maybe it doesn't sound so romantic just off but give it a chance. I am constantly bowled away by its romanticism. Hear the line "someday my name and hers are going to be the same"? Where do you hear any modern day popular songs talking about a guy wanting to marry the girl?
I've got more but this one is way up there in my book for romantic songs of the 60's.
How about "You Send Me" and "Bring It On Home to Me" by Sam Cooke? And of course there's always Elvis singing "Can't Help Falling in Love," (Jesse Collin Young's version is my favorite, but it might be too new for you) and "Always on My Mind."
Here's one that really affects me as well.. A woman wondering where her true love is.. Gawd what a voice she has. The voice dynamics reminds me a little of Julie Andrews. The video is a little dark but does anyone recognize her?? I'm telling you Cowgirl.. this almost brings tears to my eyes she's so good!
These are all fantastic especially the ones that were done in the 50's and 60's, the newer ones are great but I'm especially looking for the oldies right now.
Sudo, what a great voice and great song, who is the lady and what is the movie? I have a favor to ask of you, in your repitroire of oldies would you happen to have "Jean" done by Rod McKuen, it's from the movie "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"
Thanks everyone, for all your contributions, keep em coming!!
Yes that was from the Music man and it was great wasn't it? The actress is Kristen Chenoweth and she has the voice of an angel. No one's ventured on my previous one (HERE!) so I'll tell you.. it is The Hollies' Bus Stop. A rock song, yes, but in my book very old time romantic.
sudo
P.S. Yes, I have Jean but I'll have to post it tomorrow.

What I meant was you could look up the titles and get the origionals if you don't like Rod's version most of those were old songs from the 30,40,50s

Sinatra, and also from the movie "Once Around"
Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words hold my hand
In other words darling kiss me
Fill my life with song
And let me sing forevermore
You are all I hope for
All I worship and adore
In other words please be true
In other words I love you
--
Dylan, and also from the movie "Hope Floats"
When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there's is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
There's no doubt in my mind where you belong
I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
There ain't nothing' that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging on a rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothin' like me yet
There ain't nothin' that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the earth for you
Make you happy make your dreams come true
To make you feel my love
John Denver and Placido Dimingo
Perhaps Love
Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home
Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer ( you wrote close)
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don`t know what to do
The memory of love will see you through
Oh, love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don`t know
Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain (you wrote - change)
Like a fire when it`s cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

Annie's Song
You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like a mountain in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Come let me love you
t me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again
Interlude
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again
You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like a mountain in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again

one of my favorites of all time
We're All Alone -- Boz Scaggs
later Rita Coolidge
Outside the rain begins and it may never end
So cry no more, on the shore of dreams
Will take us out to sea
Forever more, forever more
Close your eyes and dream and you can be with me
'Neath the waves through the caves of ours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone, we're all alone
Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out. let it all begin
Learn how to pretend
Once a story's told it can't help but grow old
Roses do, lovers too, so cast your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear, oh hold me dear
All's forgotten now
We're all alone, we're all alone
Throw it to the wind, my love
Hold me dear
All's forgotten now, my love
We're all alone

Elusive Butterfly
Bob Lind
You might wake up some mornin'
To the sound of something moving past your window in the wind
And if you're quick enough to rise
You'll catch a fleeting glimpse of someone's fading shadow
Out on the new horizon
You may see the floating motion of a distant pair of wings
And if the sleep has left your ears
You might hear footsteps running through an open meadow
Don't be concerned, it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love
You might have heard my footsteps
Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind
I might have even called your name
As I ran searching after something to believe in
You might have seen me runnin'
Through the long-abandoned ruins of the dreams you left behind
If you remember something there
That glided past you followed close by heavy breathin'
Don't be concerned, it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love

here's another favorite of mine
Somewhere out there,
beneath the pale moonlight,
someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight.
Somewhere out there,
someone's saying a prayer,
that we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there.
And even though I know how very far apart we are,
it helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star.
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby,
it helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky.
Somewhere out there,
if love can see us through,
then we'll be together, somewhere out there,
out where dreams come true.

okay maybe i should stop
i coudl be on here all night
have you ever heard of keith whitley
"don't close your eyes"
"i wonder do you think of me"
he passed away but i loved him
--
might look dorky but just listen to it
phil collins
When I'm feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I'm not so blue
When you're close to me, I can feel your heart beat
I can hear you breathing in my ear...
Wouldn't you agree, baby you and me,
we've got a groovy kind of love...
Anytime you want to, you can turn me on to
Anything you want to, anytime at all.
When I kiss your lips, ooh I start to shiver
--
ok after this, i'm done
Louis Armstrong
All of me
Why not take all of me
Can't you see
I'm no good without you
Take my lips
I want to lose them
Take my arms
I'll never use them
Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry
How can I go on dear, without you
You took the part that once was my heart
So why not take all of me

Great theme, cowgirl!
"Misty" - many versions but my favorite is Johnny Mathis.
"Chances Are" - same, Mathis.
"Wonderful Wonderful" - Mathis. Okay, anything Mathis has recorded, pret' near.
2nd that on "You Send Me", Sam Cooke
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - Judy Garland, would qualify to me by virtue of 'vibe', alone.
"When I Fall in Love", Nat King Cole's version is a classic, although the Letterman's version is killah too.
"I Only Have Eyes for You" - The Flamingoes version, definitely the classic. Sinatra's version, not bad.
"As Time Goes By" - take your pick on the versions, great tune.
"Georgie On My Mind" - Ray Charles

ohmygosh i was just thinking about "jean" the other day
how old was she in her prime ? am i older ?
Jean
Jean, Jean, Roses are red,
all the leaves have gone green,
And the clouds are so low,
You can touch them and so...
Come out to the meadow, Jean.
Jean, Jean, you're young and alive,
come out of your half-dreamed dream,
And run, if you will,
to the top of the hill,
Open your arms, Bonnie Jean.
Till the sheep in the valley come home my way,
till the stars fall around me and find me alone,
When the sun comes a singin',
I'll be waitin'.
Jean, Jean, the roses are red,
All the leaves have gone green,
And the hils are ablaze...
With the moon's yellow haze,
Come into my arms, Bonnie Jean.
Till the sheep in the valley come home my way,
till the stars fall around me and find me alone,
When the sun comes a singin',
I'll be waitin'.

i always always loved that song
