I think the self condemnation is a self-pity and worrying about what others think.
Similarly self righteousness relates to how we think others perceive us.
Some who posted said these things so it's helping that I could post these thoughts.
It's one thing to think it but to say it, preferably face to face with someone trustworthy.
But here at GSC is a good place too, cause you guys know a lot of what I'm saying already.
I also hope this all helps each other too.
I agree, Cman – GSC is a GREAT place to exchange ideas! Lots of great stuff on this thread! Your post reminded me of something that has helped me a lot – learning to identify self-sabotaging thoughts….Amazing how much we can beat ourselves up mentally by these internal monologues. Like: “Oh – I really screwed up that project at work today – man, isn’t that the story of my life.” I’ve read some good books on the subject but the biggest thing I got out of them is identifying the typical ones that screw with our heads: Ten Cognitive Distortions – which are listed at
Good info there T-Bone. Overanalyzing a thing or occurence can be not so good sometimes and then good at other times. Kind of strange how the brain deals with stuff. It's good to get it out and see it in words rather then in feelings.
I have learned all of my life since a little youngster that everyone will tell you their opinion of you of what you should do or not do. S-rew that. Alls the while their little perfect life is more messed than mine.
i think it is healthy as long as you don't wallow in it
cc, I disagree that condemnation of self is healthy. I looked it up. to pass such a judgment on self is unforgiving of self.
no, I can condemn a position I previously held, or condemn a habit I want to change. but I'm doing it for love of self, not in self-condemnation.
self-condemnation is: I'm bad, unworthy, I don't do anything right, no one loves me because there's nothing lovable about me, I hate myself, blah blah blah. in twi it was I'm in debt, I don't ABS enough, leadership doesn't trust me, I don't give enough of my time, I haven't brought anyone new to fellowship in weeks, we haven't run a class this year and it's my fault for not witnessing, my kids misbehave, my husband's shirt has a hole in it, there's a dead leaf on my doormat.

i tought myself this long ago
to err is human
we all do it time and time again
but the big mistake is not to learn from your error.
self condemnation??
i think it is healthy as long as you don't wallow in it
i think it is another learning tool.
point being
we all have screwed up and we all will screw up again
let's learn from it and try to make ourselves better people by learning from our mistakes
ok off the soap box now!

Yeah, I like that potato.
I think the main deal with the problem is over-analyzing. Being too analytical with ourselves.
I replay the wrong or right over and over sometimes when I should just move on.
Just do what I can and go on about my business. And it may come up again.
So I'll deal with it then and learn from past mistakes or rights.
lol, kind of like this thread, over-analyzing the topic maybe.
But I thought it was a good one to discuss since we all have at least seen this.
And we all make mistakes and get things right too.

i guess my idea and the dictionary's differ
when i screw up i condem myself for the error i made
i don't go to bed without supper
i don't send my self to jail,or the gallows
i just try to understand how not to make the same error again
forgive myself and get over it
