What's a good but not expensive champagne?

I'm not a picky drinker, but I've had some champagne at weddings that had to be about $3/bottle and tasted like carbonated toilet water.

I'm not sure there is such a thing, Chas.

My personal favorite is Veuve Cliquot Pensardin, demi-sec. Yeah, it's a dessert drink, but what else is Champagne for? But, at about $40. a bottle, I don't consider it "cheap". I guess that depends on your income...

Matini and Rossi Asti (Spumonti) Champagne is good....Steve! and I get it at Costco.

On some Sunday mornings we have Mimosa's (champagne and orange juice) .... WONDERFUL

And with Strawberries....YUMMMMMM!!!!

Only about $8 at Costco.

There's a great champagne at Trader Joe's that's under their Trader Joe's label it's an Almond Champagne (sparkling wine). It runs about $8.00 and I think it's great. We used at my wedding recently, very good, smooth, not bitter, nice balanced flavor.

Have you tried Cristalino or Frexinet (sp?) brut? Don't know if you have the World Market chain where you live, but I like them both and I've found them there for under $10 a bottle.
