I sang that song for days upon days after my department from TWI, its so fun and such a happy song. I only heard it on a local christian station..geesh, I cannot remember the lyrics. I went thru 10 pages on google.
overall it is comforting to me to see this (as with so many discussions here) because I was led to believe by twi that the Muppets, Jim Henson, Sesame Street were ~~~~seed of the serpent~~~~~ and oh so dangerous.
Thanks so much for helping to restore a measure of sanity.
I know in the contents it had words like, God and creatures, otherwise, it wouldnt have been on a CHristian station.. I am drawing a blank in reguards to even 3 words...Maybe, it will come to me..later...I sure appreciate your efforts..Hugs!
It was also the same time Sammy Davis Jr died, and I recall imagining Sammy's chagrin at sharing the cover of People magazine with a green frog. Then I decided he would probably nod approvingly, humming "It ain't easy being green, right, Kermit?"

You'll have to give me a little more than that.
Do you recall ANY of the lyrics- any 3 words together or SOMETHING?

Is this what you are looking for?
From "The Sesame Street Book and Record". 'Green' is ©1970 Jonico Music, Inc.
It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold...
or something much more colorful like that.
It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.
But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

From your description, this is it:
I know a tropical island
Where the Mango moon and Banana sun shine
And on this tropical island
There lives a cousin of mine
Sometimes he lives in the water
Sometimes he lives on the land
Sometimes he likes to go sun himself
On soft Caribbean sand
He's a Caribbean Amphibian
He likes to hop in the tropical sea
Caribbean Amphibian
A frog in a coconut tree
The flying fish and the turtles
They've seen him hop where the pineapple grows
He likes to see all the islands
So, island-hopping he goes
Sometimes he hops to Jamaica
Sometimes to Haiti he hops
Sometimes a warm Puerto Rican beach
Is where he finally stops
He's a Caribbean Amphibian
He likes to hop in the tropical sea
Caribbean Amphibian
A frog in a coconut tree
Sometimes he lives in the water
Sometimes he lives on the land
Sometimes he likes to play music in
An all-amphibian band
He's a Caribbean Amphibian
He likes to hop in the tropical sea
Caribbean Amphibian
A frog in a coconut tree
Everybody!
He's a Caribbean Amphibian
He likes to hop in the tropical sea
Caribbean Amphibian
A frog in a coconut tree
A frog in the coconut tree
Ribbet Ribbet!

Cute song! And ain't that just like humans, to pick apart a silly and fun song instead of just enjoying it and singing along!

LikeAnEagle -- so it was the Chris Rice cartoon song you meant. :B)
That song started a buncha controversy up here also (Bullinger), on the Christian airwaves.
The main station up here played it for a few days thinking it a funny light-hearted song.
They got a lot of calls requesting it, and also got a lot of calls against it.
Seems some Christians were too busy being *holier than thou*, and were offended.
They called the station de-crying the *profanation* of the *Gospel*.
Others called in and said we need *levity* like this --- keep it coming.
Fortunately -- these folks were the ones listened to by the station.
It's a novelty song, and was never meant to be more than that.
It's been a while since I've heard it on the air --
I might request it tomorrow!
