hummm... no opinions? This article made me mad! Besides knowing personally some folks that are/were in the Pharmaceutical business, this all rings true to what the 'normal' procedures are...
Too much maybe?... Who cares?... I'd rather take a pill than change a habit?...
I belong to an HMO, Kaiser Permanente to be specific. I've belonged to them on and and off for probably 25 years. One of the reasons I like them is that my doctor doesn't make another $20,000 if he operates on me. He gets the same salary if whether he does or doesn't. That's good. I doubt that there's any drug kickbacks going on as it's cheaper to get generic drugs through Kaiser than name-brand.
I have a good friend that lost his wife to a brain tumor. He have the funds and willingness to get her the best care available. After shunting her across the country several times to different clinics and doctors, he found the local hospital was just as competent and a lot less greedy.
The article wasn't about EVERY doctor... but it certainly does go on, and it is the normal practice of the Pharmaceutical companies... who's to say what the Kaiser P doctors get as far as kick backs? This wouldn’t be something that would reflect on the cost to the patient, just how the patient is treated...
This information wasn't meant for public knowledge, and it would take some digging to find out WHERE all of their equipment actually came from~
I'd be more concerned that people in Kaiser's purchasing department might be getting kickbacks. The doctors tend to be people that just want to practice medicine with the least hassle.
