Ive never been a part of the way (witnessed or recruited, whatever word you may choose)
was as far as my involvment goes. i was totally turned off by my one time shot at joining
in 1987. my girlfriend at the time went head and heals over the spiel and left me because
of my refusals.............so much for "meaningful relationship"
since then i have tried a few different religions, a few sects, a few churches and my general conclusion
is that most, if not all of man's religion sucks. at least my parents taught me to be mindful of other's feelings and how to be tolerant of others life. i won't give you a list of every indescretion or screw-ups
commited by me, but if you allow me i will give you an "i like" list
1. honesty
2. beer
3. good music (all flavors)
4. walks on the beach
5. sunsets and sunrises (up for both most times)
6. good cookouts
7. good beer
8. real heart (as opposed to false care)
9. life........i take it as it comes
10. ice cold beer
that reminds me of something i was told a long time ago, if the beer* and food are good and tastey
you got nothing to complain about
*substitute soda or wine if desired
this is what brought me here, curiosity
to find an or some answers for a lingering question
That's not a bad reason at all. It's a perfectly good reason to lurk and learn.
As for what was so all-fired-great about twi that caused your girlfriend to chose them over you? I can only speak from experience... deep down, whether she knew it or not, she wanted answers. She wanted someone to say, "I have the answers and I can show you what they are, and they will make your life better."
Did she need to feel secure? a part of something big? a chance to be better than she thought she was? a sense of her place in the universe? all of the above? You may or may not know already.
I'm really sorry she hurt you. If you stay and read for very long you'll find that twi was the rock upon which many a relationship (and marriage) was broken. (including my own)

as in bashed ..............i married after this took place yet i cant seem to come to the
place where i feel settled. my marriage fell apart partly because of my previous relation
my fault totally
highway i suppose im on a quest for answers, yet at times i feel that those answers have been laid at my table. why did i find this cyber place, simply out of the curious and then i started to read
and the more i read the more sick i got. how in this world could anyone do that much harm to a human heart?
to me good does good , evil does good at being evil
maybe we are all here, not at gs, but here for a reason
to be who we want , to let the soul of who is in us to come out and in the case of me
maybe i need you and this forum to help me get
to the places i need, the peace and reconciliation
that god meant for me
here i am, naked before you, naked in that you see why
Watersedge...welcome to the Greasespot cafe...sit down and have a cup of coffee...or some beer if you please. There's no strangers at this website...only friends we haven't met...we ARE an intersting group of ex cult members who discuss some rather sordid things from time to time...
thanks for your reply. you are indeed welcome here!
If you haven't yet, you should read the thread "TWI never gave nothing to the Tin Man..." it deals with how each of us has had to deal with our time in twi, our departure, and how we've all dealt with the aftermath. So many of us have deep hurts which take a long time to heal. It's a process, and everyone is on their own time-table.
I'm glad you've found this place. I hope you can find your peace.
i also had a girlfriend who got involved with twi. she most definitely chose it over me. so i decided the only way to get her out would be to really learn about it, and refute it "from within." that was in 1976, and i got sucked in, big time, for 11 years.
My parents got me in the Way at the ripe old age of 11. I took the class as soon as I was of age and didn't leave for 28 years. Quite a sheltered life I lived. Since then and with the help of a counselor I saw how controlled I was even under the dillusion of freedom. Her choosing the way over you was nothing personal toward you. It was just the Way it had to be.
After going through the Way Corps program the available guys became more limited to me. It was just an unspoken rule. A Way Corps woman is not supposed to married a non Way Corps guy. So instead of going with our hearts we were schooled to pick the guy we felt we could "move the Word with".
So don't take her rejection personally. Many of us did pretty much what our leadership told us to do. Hope that helps you come to grips with that rejection a little better.

true, watersedge.
Part of the healing is in understanding what happened.
The other part is getting yourself to the place where it doesn't happen again.
I'm still working on the second part.
Regards,
Shaz

Hiya Edge. :)
Which leader group *sickenens you the most*??
twi (as a whole) is a path that leads downward --- quickly.
Some of us have seen the *good, the bad, and the ugly*
(But that includes the good.) :)
There was a time --------------------
Ahhh. But I digress -----------------
