Aw, what a neat story, David! I love magic, always have. My favorite is sleight of hand, because it is dependent upon the skill of the magician, not just the props working correctly.
Blows my mind that they expected you to leave your client at the door, and stay in the lobby -- sheesh! Nice of your friend to pull a few strings for such a nice "young man," though. :)
i want to know how they can walk through walls and glass, etc. i know we were told the devil can change around molecules and all.... that always creeped me out
About 10 years ago I had to got to Las Vegas on a business trip and David Copperfield was doing a show at Caesars Palace. I didn't think I had enough time to make it to the show from where I was staying but I decided to see if I could get in anyway.
When I got to the ticket window they said there was only one ticket left, but it was a good seat. Yea I thought, last ticket is never the best. I was escorted to the middle of the theater and sat down at a table that didn't seem too great to me but I was happy with it for $100.00.
During one of his disappearing acts he and his assistant vanished from the stage and re-appeared right next to me. Blew me away. He then took out a deck of cards and did a few tricks for me at my table. The girl that sat next to me was part of his act and I could see her handing items to him (as if from nowhere). Yep, It was the best seat in the house. Absolutely loved the show.
You folks ever hear of that $1,000,000 prize offered by James Randi to the person who can prove supernatural feats? ... Now, if what David Copperfield was indeed so supernatural, why is it that he never took up Randi's $1,000,000 offer? I mean, if it's because he doesn't need the money, then you'd think he'd do it just to shut up the skeptics and further bring people to his show.

HA!!! He probably makes more than that, by promoting the *mystery*!

Safari -- Oh yea! If he is ever in your area -- it's a GREAT SHOW!!
(Pricey, but good!)
Excie -- Yea -- going through solid objects ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of his tricks involved a *solid* sheet of steel (4' X 8' in size) that was lowered
about 3 feet above a table, that he lay on.
Before he got on the table, he had volunteers from the audience, come up on stage,
and whack the thing with a hammer. :( :(
The noise damn-near-ruined-my-hearing, it was so loud.
WHANG!! WHANG!! WHANGGGGGGG!!
Short of the long of it is -- he lay down on the table, they lowered the steel to 2 feet above him,
covered him and the steel with a big sheet, and he was supposed to pass though it (the steel).
The sheet was tight around the prop. We could all see under the table.
There was *no way* he had room to come out from under and get on top of the steel
from where he lay, but he did.
The show was billed as the *Master of Illusion*, and he didn't explain how he did *stuff*.

How cool... ya got to see the show! :)
Must be nice to know VIP's.
And you were prepared to sit in the lobby....
"Free of charge".... double cool.
I'd say that VIP had a little of his own magic.
