Recently a couple I am very close to left TWI. They shared with me that a few years ago, they (husband and wife) wrote a letter to the BODs telling them of problems they saw in their leadership. They had tried several times to speak to their leadership about these problems...but he would not hear of it. So, they did what they were taught to do in the wonderful 'way tree' chain of command..and went higher...the next level being the BOD. They wrote a well constructed letter explaining themselves and what they felt was wrong. Before sending the letter, they made the grave mistake of calling one of the BODs at the time to make sure they were doing things correctly. This member of the BOD's reassured them and said...yes, of course, send your letter. If you're not happy, you have a right to speak up. So they did. Little did they know, that this person whom they had spoken with, spoke to another BOD's member, whom then, called my friend's leadership and told him that there was a letter coming to TWI sent by my friends, complaining of his leadership. This leader then told the BOD member to send the letter back to him when it arrives. The letter was addressed to the president of TWI, but it never got that far. The leadership called my friends and said he wanted to talk to them...a ROYAL reproof insued. A 2 hour verbal screaming match by the leader. They survived that. Then, a few weeks later, the leader calls up my friends and asks them to come and visit him. A 2 hr. drive. They did. When they arrived, they were escorted into a basement room where there was a half circle of chairs placed and 2 chairs facing away from the circle. The local leadership (corpses) were invited and my friends had to sit backs turned from the corpses and the big leader sat in front of them...and for 2 more hours belittled them and tore them apart from top to bottom. So much for writing letters OM.

Insurgent, It's always been about power with them hasn't it! Same arrogant attitude as ever. If you do not understand his death, you will never understand his ressurection. If you do not understand what he suffered for us, you will never be able to understand the greatness of God's love towards us. Thank you Insurgent for reminding me of TWI's callous and shallow approach towards Christianity. Nothing has changed. They don't get the 'Passion' part do they? How sad ... :(--> 'til the next time...

Jesusfreaky, Yes, humbleness is certainly a treat to see in the performing industry. Egos I'm sure are as thick as molasses in January in those places. So it is very refreshing to see such a thing. She is certainly a true musician. Her versatility is certainly something I admire about her. She's jazzy, she's bluesy, she's country, she's folksy...she's all over the place in her sound, yet she does it all very well. Amazing in my books. Great chattin' with you JesusFreaky! Do you wish you had never heard of TWI?

Dear Oenophile, I believe you are not alone when it comes to this question. Yes, there were good times and people in TWI. Why else would we have stayed in as long as we did, right? Yet, at the same time, I felt this cloud hang over me. It seemed to always be there and after awhile I didn't even realize the 'son' wasn't shining anymore. And when at times I would notice this absence of light in my life, I believed it was because of something ??? that I was doing wrong. Either way, TWI was left blameless as we were taught to do. I now have a tendency to not want to think of my experience in TWI as a positive one. Though I must be realistic and say there were some highlights during my stay...but the 'cloud' hanging over me surely overshadowed those good times. I know I found God in my life when I was introduced to TWI, but also I was introduced to much misery. I believed in order to have God in my life I had to co-exist with this burden of misery. Not anymore. love you 'til the next time... -
My waymares happened off and on for years. I would wake up in a cold sweat, my heart beating mile a minute, so thankful it was only a dream. My dreams would usually involve leadership and some intense confrontational situation...usually me being beaten down verbally by those a$$holes. Many of my dreams were caused I believe, by unresolved situations that I had left in TWI. These were like cancerous wounds, oozing, aching and bleeding. After I found Greasespot and started to experience some closure/healing to some of these issues, my dreams lessened and now I can't remember the last time I had one (knock on wood!). Grasshoppie, you will be fine and as time passes by, your sleep will be sweet and peaceful. Nightie-Night! 'til the next time...

My thought on this was... How in the he!! would anyone know when someone is 'on the word/off the word' when the people who taught you that concept (VP/LCM)probably lived their lives so not aligned with Christian thought, that if they had ever received a 'on the word' thought they wouldn't have recognized it if it bit them in the a$$! 'til the next time...

Just recently I was speaking to someone who has in the past year left TWI. I have been out for 10 years now and sometimes when I hear wayspeak/waythinking it bolts me over and I'm left gasping for air. The last time we spoke, we were talking about VP and LCM's 'misbehaviours' (to put it mildly). At one point, the person I was speaking to said to me "Well, that's what happens when people get 'OFF'the word. It was at this point I was left gasping for air. I did not know what to say nor how to respond to these words. TWI was famous for it's 'blanket statements'. I guess I hadn't been subjected to one of those in quite awhile. It sure did take me by surprise. :o--> I think I spun around in circles for about 2 days in my kitchen just thinking about the insanity of that statement. Heeeeeeeeellllllllpppppppppp! :o--> 'til the next time...

I concur CC... It must have been either 92 or 93. We got the boot and never attended ROA 94. I specifically remember this guy getting up there and barely getting a chance to finish his sentence about 'Keeping it simple' and Craigger the raving lunatic jumping down his throat. I felt like I was in residence again...ahhhhh such a nice feeling it was! --> NOT!!!!!!!!! 'til the next time...
