  1. OH OH OH ... or should I say.. HO HO HO HO :o That's one heaping pile of snow ... Cowgirl!!! You sure got me in that Christmas spirit now! I started my loaf baking on the weekend... 45 loaves down and about 55 more to do!!! Can't wait! CONGRATS !!! 1,000 POSTS!!! How's the painting going?
  2. 'MUMS' the word chatty... I promise
  3. warning warning warning warning Mr. Bluzie, I was checking out this thread when I clicked on your name instead of the Nostalgia Thread last post posted thingy... so, up came your profile and your birthdate... :o and guess what???? we were born the same year (but i'm older by a few months <_<) NOW, back to your regularly scheduled program
  4. Sudo, Wonderful piece...but I must say.. after the first two notes.. I shut the link off. Yes, too many times of being put on hold I guess, and having that piece of music being played... in order to soothe my aggrevated soul for being put on hold for so long! The straw that broke the camel's back was when my daughter was put on hold (for the umpteenth time) this summer after trying for over 2 months to have a phone installed in her apt. She stood in a hot phone booth, at about 90 F, for 45 minutes while P_ch_b_l's C_nn_n in D major played. Then, after all that, she had an answering machine come back and say... I'm sorry, you will have to leave your name and NUMBER (of which she did not have because they had failed to install her phone) and we will get back to you. She called me at that point from the phone booth in tears and said, "If I have to listen to that piece of music another second, I will need to be seriously medicated!" :( I guess for some, it just doesn't have the 'soothing' effect! I must admit tho' it does have a certain hypnotic effect. Reminds me of Ravel's 'Bolero' that way.
  5. Chatty... O can't keep up ... too many links... so little time  OK.... now for the total derailment... check these out... I think they're new... You gotta love this ---> and this ----> and of course this ---> doesn't take much for me now does it!!
  6. I guess I should reply to this post while i'm here The only thing I ever heard about TJ...was that he was NOT liked.... I never heard a good thing about this man when I was in TWI. Not a one... everytime I heard his name come up in conversation, it was always in the context of some Way Corps horror story. He must have been a good leader in TWI's eyes... to have such a reputation! ;)
  7. OH YA SURE JOHNNY SOCKS .... Just when I go and make a big deal about your signature ... you go and change it! Oh well... <_< I gotta' admit .... Socks... your posts of the many voices of TWI was quite clever and funny too! Thanks ^_^
  8. Chatty.... hint i'm french  and no you have never asked me...
  9. Rick Mr. Bluzie! Man oh man...that song you posted after the telephone story.. it completely sent me... I remember years ago hearing this song... Kathy Mattea was an unknown to me at that time ... she sang it on the Johnny Carson Show... the next morning and went and bought the album... what a song! you tickled my insides rick...something I needed ... thanks if i remember correctly... some twi idiot saying.. .oh what a depressing song... so negative... the guys out there ... poor ba*tard! <_<
  10. Just peeking in... One comment for SOCKS.... YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE THOSE JOHN PRINE LYRICS IN YOUR SIGNATURE ... THANKS THANKS AND THANKS AGAIN!!!! I know Jonny Lingo is a huge fan of Prine...I'm sure he's enjoying them as well!
  11. Shaz, Great post. Jonny... hope everything is going well for you. I know for me, a while back, I took on a similar task as you have here... but not as severe of a situation. I understand and can empathize with your desire to help and be there for this person. It's quite an undertaking, and can be very draining but at the same time very rewarding as well. Keep up the great work bro'.... maybe playing that beautiful harmonica of yours someday will soothe her soul.
  12. Jonny, Praying for you. You are a great man to lend such a loving hand to your friend. Your desire to help in such a time of need should be commended. Don't doubt yourself. You will have the words to comfort your friend. They will be there when you need them and they will be the right ones. That's what makes you you. Templelady... Wonderful post.
  13. OH YIKES!!! :o Can't believe I missed this thread.... Well.. oh my oh my... music... yikes again OK.. new names I've heard lately Attended the Montreal Jazz Festival this summer... 2 names that I heard that did it for me musically Ruthie Foster - bluesy, folksy, spiritual, r&b MOVING TO SAY THE LEAST!!! Ray Lamontagne - Amazing!!! Opening for John Mayer now. Amos Lee - Just saw him in Vancouver... Opened for Dylan and John Prine this year and Norah Jones all last year.... Norah, her bass and guitar players all play on his debut album...worth checking out. Also... Mary Lou Williams - she's passed away in '94 i believe .... my hubby is a junkie right now for her stuff... she's a legend in the jazz pianists' world. ummmmmm.......... oh from Vancouver BC.... The Be Good Tanyas Eva Cassidy was introduced to me about a year ago....she passed away a short while ago at the of 33... her stuff is moving. Kate Rusby for anything Celtic and .... and... and.... I could go on and on and on and on ..... OH OH OH Gotta tell you this one... on Saturday night went out to see this guy Denis Moreau who was a university friend of my brothers... well... he's doing the gig thing and selling his cds. He's bluesy, does Hank Williams, Dylan, The Band... you name it... very good guitarist and harmonica player Well, he stayed at my parents place while he had a gig here locally. Yesterday I went over to my parents...and there's Denis in the livingroom...playing, my mom on her mandolin and the jam session started.... that was about 2:00 pm Then later on my sister joins us and her husband... she did some singing, her husgand joined in on the guitar and the jam session went on til 9:30 - 10:00 pm...we stopped to eat and started right up again...what a hoot. I felt like I had my own private concert...we all did. This is what he's wanting to do next... private home concerts. Should be interesting...his sound certainly is condusive to this environment. He played The Weight by The Band... I swear....it was better than the original! (and I say that with all the respect in my soul for my fellow countrymen - The Band!) Thanks for letting me blither ... J ... great thread!

  17. Kathy, hee hee hee Yes it does.... you are so GREAT at this! :)
  18. Rick, I have not a clue for the first one... but the choppers at the beginning made me think maybe it was China Beach. The second one... even worse........I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE  Now, you must remember tho' I was heavily involved in a cult in the '80's and was encouraged to not watch TV...sorta' the proverbial 'head in the sand' syndrome you could say. But I must say... with regards to the second link.... I've always wondered how anyone could sing like this without blowing out a few vocal chords after a few days.
  19. Rick, OK, since this IS still the nostalgia thread... hee hee hee Shell.... I'll send you my email... just gotta' run now. gotta' get ready for my trip to Vancouver.

She is a adorable...yes yummy is a good word to describe her... I want to eat her all up!! :P Chatty... you are right... SEA has something to do with it. OH OH OH OH OH .... I saw picks of Mr. St. George in cartoon character costumes. What a way to wake up this morning!!! :P Another lyric The Night Pat Murphy Died Lyrics by Great Big Sea Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain't got sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play [Chorus:] That's how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy That's how they showed their honour and their pride; They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another And every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died As Mrs. Murphy sat in the corner pouring out her grief Kelly and his gang came tearing down the street They went into an empty room and a bottle of whiskey stole They put the bottle with the corpse to keep that whiskey cold [Chorus] About two o'clock in the morning after empty'ing the jug Doyle rolls up the ice box lid to see poor Paddy's mug We stopped the clock so Mrs. Murphy couldn't tell the time And at a quarter after two we argued it was nine [Chorus] They stopped the hearse on George Street outside Sundance Saloon They all went in at half past eight and staggered out at noon They went up to the graveyard, so holy and sublime Found out when they got there, they'd left the corpse behind! [Chorus] Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk and they ain't been sober yet; As long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin' gay O'Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play
  21. Shellers, Glad you enjoyed that!!! Shellers... I gotta tell ya' THAT BABY IS THE CUTEST CUTEST CUTEST BABY EVER!!!!!!!! PICKLES me TINK just to look at that face!!! Thanks for posting that sweet adorable picture!!!
  22. Pirate me mate! Hardy har har .... I loved it!!! Sorry for the home ec class ... I'm sure you very very rugged Pirates have no time for these trivial matters!! By the way... there is a singing group from Newfoundland that I absolutely adore. They do many old traditional songs... from their island which was primarily fishing villages moons ago. They also do many old traditional Irish songs since their ancestors were directly from Ireland. The funny thing is ... their accent is still so 'Irish' to this day. A good friend of mine who now lives here was born and raised in Belfast. When she met her first Newfie she argued with him being from Ireland and not Newfoundland from where he was claiming to be. Anyhow...let me post some of the lyrics of the songs they've recorded. They will often go to these remote villages, sit down at a kitchen table and have these old codgers sing there sea-faring songs in order to learn them since there is no music written down for any of these songs. This one is called Scolding Wife….it’s a hoot. Scolding Wife Well I came into a scolding wife a few short years ago And ever since I lead a life of misery and woe My wife she is a tyrant around the ?? Ah I'd sell her to the devil for a glass or two of gin Sure I'll get up and go to work as mild as any man And she'll get up and dress herself and go and have her dram And I chance to say a word it's well I know my due She'll follow me with the fire shovel up and down the room [Chorus] And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain I swear to God I'll hang meself if I get married again And if the devil'd take her I'd thank him for his pain Though I swear to God I'll hang myself if I get married again When I get up at breakfast time she'll tap me on the head When I come home at dinner time I'll find her drunk in bed When I come home at supper time at patience I must stop 'Cause she drinks what's in the teapot and I must drink the slop [Chorus] Well once I asked me scolding wife if I could go to bed She scare gave me an hour on the pillow to lay me head When like a roarin' lion she came bustin' down the door She caught me by the middle and threw me naked on the floor [Chorus] Now me and my companions go to a public place She'll search around the neighbourhood until she finds my face She'll hoist me up in ridicule before the company Sayin' 'Petticoats is your master and forever more shall be' I'm gonna let you all guess who the band is. Someday I'll learn how to post links for songs and then you'll all get to enjoy this music (or maybe not)
