Oh man... So much to comment on ... ahhhhh and I have no time.... :( So, this is just a quickie.... Act 2: I'm just dead curious to hear what that Gibson sounds like...it would be such an interesting sound I'm sure. Socks: The pics I was thinking of weren't of guitars but other beautiful shots you've taken. T-Bone: Where did you go in BC? and I haven't listened to Loreena much...but I must go now and do so. You've baited me. Interestingly enough I saw a show about a week ago that was highlighting Female Divas...many if not most were of the land of Canadia... Sarah McLaughlin, Celine, Shania, Avril Lavigne, Joni Mitchell, (can't remember the rest right now). Interesting to me how that has happened?? Some of my favourites right now, Sarah Harmer, Waylin' Jennys, Kate Rusby (but she's british). Gotta run

Thanks for sharing T-Bone....and your puppy is cute too. I know Socks takes some mighty pretty pictures as well. Sorry Socks... but I think you're gonna have to show us some of your work now...and this will become the GUITAR/PHOTO thread

T-Bone, It's beautiful...you shoud feel so proud... and the fender ... well... I think yours is MUCH prettier! I have no clue what Jonny is talking about ... what pot with the dove? But I did notice those hefty research books in the shelves...whooaaa!!! And the architecture book too... I think we own the same one...hubby loves architecture. OH...by the way... I think I will be going to see Amos Lee in November... he's coming to Toronto... Socks... Ya gotta love this place and the people who come here! The junkie keeps on tickin' ...

Strange Boy, Your line at the bottom of your posts says: "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." Reminds of this song by David Francey.... a folkie I love... Broken Glass Saw you standing in the cafeteria line I'd have given the world just to make you mine Saw you at your locker, in the high school hall And it didn't take a minute for my heart to fall When you hear a sound like broken glass That's my heart every time that girl walks past When you hear a sound like the rush of wind It's just me catching my breath again Saw you on the bus, on the way back home You were sitting so pretty, sitting all alone Couldn't think of anything much to say Except I'll love you forever, 'til my dying day When you hear a sound like broken glass That's my heart every time that girl walks past When you hear a sound like the rush of wind It's just me catching my breath again Seeing her now makes me think of then And I remember how and I remember when You'd go to a party hoping that she'd show Then you'd dance in the darkness to Abbey Road When you hear a sound like broken glass That's my heart every time that girl walks past When you hear a sound like the rush of wind It's just me catching my breath again Have a nice day everyone (oops...edited because I highlighted the wrong part of the verse...duh... )

T-Bone, I noticed below your avatar it says.. MY GALLERY...what is that exactly? I clicked on it... but i keep getting this thing that says... I can't access it or something or other??? Just curious? back to your regularly scheduled program...

T-Bone... No shame here... You were passionate enough about music to figure out a way to play. I think that takes determination and skill. Some of the greatest musicians couldn't read a note of music. Not saying you can't but I think you get my drift. I can barely read music myself.. but I know a few chords on a guitar and I LOVE music.. and I sometimes think... that's just as much as someone who's had it drilled to them all their lives. I FEEL IT!!!
-
T-Bone, OH sigh :( .. quite the SOB story...but I know... I did it too. I threw out all my high school year books cause I thought they were 'devilish'. And, hubby threw out all his music programs he had collected over the years when he played in orchestras and sang in choirs. He still sobs about that one at times. But, I guess this is a 'guitar' thread..right..and i shouldn't blither about 'THE CULT'. Chas... Cool instrument. Hubby did play cello for a bit in University, played in a cello quartet. So, I think the uprightness of the instrument wouldn't be too much for him to handle...not sure.. it's the SPACE and of course the $$$! :o StrangeONE, Of course...how could I forget... I love the ways of the seamonkeys...they are so endearing and kind and gentle I feel a group monkey hug coming on...
-
T-Bone.... I think I missed your sob story  Can you direct me to what page I might find it on this thread... over 40 pgs on this dang thing.. i could be here for hours I'm sure he will be glad to hear another kindred soul is out there and plunking as he is. His all time thing, he has told me, is to own an upright. OH MY  I think we'd have to sell one of the children in order to make room for one of those things... we have such a small house. I'm off to make supper and do whatever needs doing since I've ignored my domestic duties by being here. aurevoir

Oakster, You lucky DOG you!!! (i couldn't resist either)

Scissor Boy, "(my dear brother from the sock drawer: why didn't you tell me there were ASM missionaries out here in your area?)" such a way with words! I can't seem to remember what ASM 1 is? I know ASM is Amazing Sea Monkeys... but the '1'? and OLM stands for Old ? Monkeys But I must say... I remember when that song came out on the hit parade of Mungo Jerry's ... I think it was 1972. I absolutely loved it! I was a very young girl then, sporting pig tails and braids...just picture Ann of Green Gables... that was me. Ya ... and Chatty and her 'puter abilities.. I hear you Jonny... i feel like i'm this poster with 3 crutches at times... sigh... I'm still wanting to post that John Mayer song that he recorded with Herbie Hancock.. but i'll figure it out sooner or later. Act 2, you reminded me of my hubby....who was given a Jazz Fender bass about 2 yrs ago. I basically haven't seen him since. He spends hours just plunking that thing along side albums of Wynton Marsalis, MaryLou Williams, John Mayer, Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, Bill Evans and even Kim Mitchell. Oh ... Kim Mitchell... now there is an interesting guitarist. Patio Lanterns.. how can you not love that song.. but he also wrote one called Wonderland... interesting lyrics and melody. i'm blithering again.........ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

T-Bone and Chatty, Awwww ... shucks.... (said in the Cowardly Lion's voice)

Hello ALL, Phewww.... you guys and gals are sure busy while this girl from Canadia is a way... Guitars with holes, Rhino's singing 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' and dogs doing the macarana...(that was HALARIOUS Chatty!!!) Top Ten Lists... and the ressurection of SEA MONKEYS>>> OH MY Well I did think of you all yesterday as I and my family went off for a tourist day and headed out to Niagara Falls and then Niagara-On-The-Lake. We had lunch at Hard Rock Café and I found the story in the menu MOST amusing and thought it must be shared with the faithful followers of the Guitar Thread... 'The story of the birth of Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection is itself a part of music history. The collection was started when Eric Clapton, a regular customer at the original Hard Rock Cafe London, asked the staff if he could hang his guitar on the wall to mark his favorite bar stool as “his spot.” They did, and one week later, a package from The Who’s Pete Townshend arrived with a guitar and a note bearing the message, “Mine’s as good as his! Love, Pete.” Unfortunately, I could not find the exact story that was written in the menu...but it did say that this place was in england... a small 'diner' hole in the wall run by two americans. Clapton used to frequent this place alot and asked the owners if it would be ok if he could sorta' have a certain stool saved for him when he came. The one owner said, 'Sure, heck why don't you just bring in your guitar and leave it here.' The next day Clapton showed up with one of his guitars and placed it on the wall.... or something to that effect. and the rest... as they say .. is history. OH... I saw Jeff Healy's Guitar... it was white... (sorry... that's all I remember :( ) Talking about Healy, I go to see him from time to time. He has a bar called Healy's in downtown Toronto and he plays in a sorta' Dixie Band. You can go for free and watch for 3 hours on Saturday afternoons. The best darn thing EVER. This band he's put together is a sorta' band that play standards from the 30's - 40's. Healy sings as well as this female vocalist. There is a guitarist, along with Jeff who plays this Django Rhinehart style, a sax/clarinet player to die for, pianist, drum and upright bass player... all MANIGNIFICIENT... and this russian violin player who plays like Stephan Grappelli... and... Jeff plays trumpet!!! I've seen also his parents there and they are most adorable. Most of the time Jeff plays trumpet and a fine player he is. Jeff I am told has one of the largest if not THE largest collection in the world of 78s. He's an amazing individual. This place is in the basement of Healy's ..so it's small.. VERY small and you have to get there an hour earlier in order to get a good seat. In about an hour you turn around the place is packed. There are young, old, middle aged... ALL ages. You sit in this dark little hovel and are transported. Reminds me of the first place that Beatles played in England... The Cavern or something???? The last time I was there, Jeff brought up this young singer... just 14 who sang the place down. She did ... The Sunny Side of the Street. OH MY! Afterwards, I spoke to this girl in the washroom. She said that Jeff met her in Ottawa where she is from. She was singing with a blues band there. Jeff didn't get to hear her sing, but when he spoke to her ... he knew she could sing by her speaking voice. I thought that was a fascinating observation but being that Jeff is blind.. there is no doubt that his ear must be one of the most accute instruments around!!! OK... after alllllllll my blither here... i'm thinking.. OH sheeeshh.. I think I've blithered about this before somewhere here on GS.. I APOLOGIZE deeply if i've bored the pants off of any of you with my replay. ONE MORE THING... The Lion Sleeps Tonight... FASCINATING HISTORY TO THAT SONG... It is actually an African tribal hunting song. It is the song a certain tribe sang before they would leave to hunt lions. Now, the song was sung of course in their tribal tongue. A few years ago I watched a documentary about this song. This song was transported to USA by a certain singer who heard it on his travels and recorded it. A certain man then put lyrics to it... all of 10 words and made millions. Unfortunately, the certain individual in Africa who taught them the traditional song was never compensated EVER, yet this song went on to make millions and millions and millions for people and still does. It has been used in over like something of 260 commercials, x number of plays, broadway productions, movies...and the list goes on and on and on let alone all the people who have recorded it over the past 50 years or more. The man in Africa died in poverty and his family still lives the same today. It was a definite story of exploitation. The man who put the lyrics to music has NOW finally decided to compensate these people but it is a very sad story... sigh Just found this website... www.pbs.org/independentlens/lionstrail/trail.html OK... I prob got some of these details a little twisted ... so go gentle on me. my stories are over!

T-Bone, Well thank you! I appreciate that. : )

Dog Lover, Wow... You were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than me!!! I knew your precious TWIG leader...you didn't mess with her a lying spirit........ummmmmmmm well...there ya' go... mom always said... NEVER player with matches.... what a bunch of morons!!!
-
Interesting slur.... yes... man.. Socks.. your detail about these things freaks me out sometimes...it's a good freak...but just the same... wowza!!! OK... Lyrics to Daughters I know a girl She puts the color inside of my world but she's just like a maze Where all of the walls all continually change And I've done all I can To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands Now I'm starting to see Maybe it’s got nothing to do with me Fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers So mothers, be good to your daughters too Ooh, you see that skin? It's the same she's been standing in Since the day she saw him walking away Now she's left cleaning up the mess he made So fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers So mothers, be good to your daughters too Boys, you can break You find out how much they can take Boys will be strong And boys soldier on But boys would be gone without warmth from A woman's good, good heart On behalf of every man looking out for every girl You are the god and the weight of her world So fathers, be good to your daughters Daughters will love like you do Girls become lovers who turn into mothers So mothers be good to your daughters, too So mothers be good to your daughters, too So mothers be good to your daughters, too. .................. alot of wisdom for such a young lad.

Mr. Music Man... OH MY GOD!!! That is wild! You should transfer this to the Guitar Talk Thread. Thought I had pretty much everything.. I guess not!
-
Mr. Socks, I stand corrected... I apologize.. didn't mean to put you on the spot. But you are right.. it's those hazzy eyes he has... I guess SOME of us relate perhaps. Ok... Nice song you posted... it's powerful, an incredible driving rhythm...and the lyrics... how funky Of course I love Homelife...and Daughters...what a powerful message in that song. And what about Something's Missing... funk. I love his versatility. I remember when my daughter went to see him for the second time ... right after this album was released and he thanked his audience for accepting his 'heavier' album being it was a huge jump from his acoustic sound of his earlier albums. I thought that was a sweet and consciencious (sp??) statement to make. Still WAILIN out on these Waylin' Jennys...

Welcome Mme. Medic, So nice to meet you. Strangeboy... hahahahhahahahhah and yes.. I have the same questions as mr. lingo... please indulge us!

Sockster, wonderful description.. i truly enjoyed your take on JM... I remember talking to you a while back when JM hit the scene and you said that wifey loved him...but you thought he was a drug head ??? Do you still feel the same way? His looks are definitely not common for a rock/guitarist... i think the attraction is that he has a 'baby' face... I know... he prob HATES HATES HATES to hear that...but i think the girls find him approachable because of this...not that hard-a** rocker look. I have a video of him I downloaded somewhere along the line... of him and his bass player singing... Your Body is a Wonderland... at the end... he is slapping that guitar so hard... and fast... you cannot see his fingers move....I should learn how to put this stuff here so you can see what I am talking about. Chatty.... helllllpppp.... I used to do this ... but for the life of me can't remember how to... Bluzie actually helped me thru the thing... Ok... i'm blithering for sure now. I also have JM with BB King and many other greats. He's getting around this young lad. thanks for the chat.. I enjoyed this. : )

Excie, "and the dog is like an angel in a dog's body" That is the cutest thing I've ever heard a pet owner say about their pet. How sweet. praying for you to feel better. xo

Chatty, I KNEW that was what dear strangeboy was speaking of... it was the fact that he said... HIS SOJOURN BACK INTO CANNIBAS... Ooops.. i missed TEMPORARY... duh moi

Chas, ahhhh... no one has ever called me SWEET FROGGIE...I am tickled. Oh, glad you got a chance to taste Mayer's other side. Yes, I have noticed that the music of the 2000 decade has no musical definition - genre. It's NOT a bad thing at all as far as I'm concerned. It's ecclectic and I LOVE that about music. I remember reading a blurpy about the late but absolutely GREAT Eva Cassidy. She was an incredible singer... and recorded a few albums in the mid 90's . Died of cancer at the very young age of 33. Anyhow, this woman was never taken seriously by the recording companies because they couldn't peg her into one type of genre or style of music. Isn't that sad!! She's blues, gospel, rock, jazz, folk...she could do it all and do it well. So, since the recording companies didn't know where to place her, they felt they couldn't promote her properly. What a sad commentary that is. Here she was probably one of the most ecclectic and versatile singers around and no one would touch her because they couldn't place her in a box and sell her with a lable. Well, a few years back a british radio station played some of her music and whammm... she hit the charts .. posthumously sadly enough. OK...and I have one more blurp about this while I'm on this track. Joni Mitchell in her later years recorded some pretty serious jazz stuff.. doing an album with Charles Mingus and such. Well, I read an interview with her about a year ago and she talked about her walking away from the music industry and why. Don't quote me but what I understood her to say was that she was so discouraged by those who would not allow her to pursue her jazz intensions. They poo poo'd her all the way. I suppose for those big wigs... if doesn't sell mass amounts of music, they're not interested. Today, record companies like Blue Notes and such seem far more willing to go outside the nine dots and record these not so mainstream artists and there is a definite following. My daughter who is university now...comes home with the MOST interesting music. Stuff that is definitely non-mainstream (is that a word?) and is lush and most inventive. But to answer your question about not having a certain style in this decade... well I wonder if sometimes it is that we are getting old and we are not listening to the 'hip' music. But those teeny boppers around now, well they will definitely remember this decade for a certain style of music because they were 'listening' to it. Though, I must say... my 15 yr old came home with a singer called FEIST who is a big hit here... and you certainly cannot peg her into any musical hole and she is listened to by that age group. Go figure! It ticks my daughter off ROYALLY that I like her music... Leslie Feist... amazing ... enjoy. (sorry for the blither... sigh...) :(

John Mayer, Ummm.... can't explain it... but it is arrangements... i guess you would say. He's innovative. His album called Heavier Things might change your minds. It's all electric.
