Socks, nice thoughts... very nice thoughts... I work with words all day long... breaking them apart piece by piece, sound by sound and then building them back up again in order to get children to read. One of the tools we use to teach children to read, is to read words that MAKE no sense... called NONSENSE words... like brept, dreb, greb, glin, and so on ... so the children can learn their sounds (which most are weak in) and then build the word up one sound at time and not depend on their memory of the word to read it. For example, let's say they know the work 'table' ... well they do not use any sound skills to read that word. They recognize the word as a whole and then just read it. Like you recognizing a picture and saying ... oh that's a tree. Same idea. But that can only go so far when you are dealing with the tools needed for reading. If the other skills are not in place, they're up poop creek with no paddle once they stumble upon a word they've never seen before. Sorta' like what you mentioned about words needing a reference in order to have meaning. Reading nonsense words forces them to depend on the sounds they know and blending those sounds to put the word together. It sorta' what we call rewiring them neurologically. The concept of music not being defined by any other thing than the notes (sound) struck a chord with me (no pun intended). That is a very strong and pure medium of communication. It needs no reference, no previous knowledge of which sounds are what or so on. It just needs someone to listen and take it all in...add words to the mix and you have a very, very powerful form of communication. And, to think that when we listen to music, we are basically just listening to certain vibrations and frequency of those vibrations in the air. ( I think?) It's mind boggling.

Nice Evan.... Very nice!! I was going to ask the same question about the wood that Socks mentioned. When I first looked at your pictures there were two things that came to mind... Cedar and Rosewood??? am I close?
  4. That place was WAY-too-Bizarro World for me ........ Like Oenophile put it so well... It is afterall a place where everyone is equal but some are more equal than others. Man that place was rampant with that decease. It was like how the bible describes the pharisees and their whited sepulchers. All shiny and clean on the outside (with their manicured lawns) and rotten with worms on the inside.

Waysider, So kind of you to take the time to explain. Thank you... it is very much appreciated. Now when that post was written and Jon Anderson's name was mentioned I thought..hmmmmmmmmmm..... they must be talking about this guy ---> Anderson all right... but the wrong one... duh! here's another early clip---> Check out all the speakers on stage... 4 musicians and one mega loud output it seems!!! ----> the 1980's I must say.... this stuff is amazing....so eclectic...such a variety of sound. What a mix of instruments. and now a newer Ian .... ----> Bouree... My brother-in-law has seen JTull in concert 22 times. Last year being (he claims) his last time. It seems he's retiring from Tull concerts. I think it was Mstar1 who said something a while back about his artwork (stained glass) being used on one of Tull's albums. I searched for the post, but I couldn't find it. Anyone remember this???? I may have this band mixed up with another... (I think I've proven to most that is QUITE possible)
  6. Full Circle and Hammie... Priceless ... absolutely priceless definitions! You put a smile (in a disturbed way) on my face. Thanks!

It seems everywhere you turn there's music coming out of every space in your life. New music, musicians, albums, songs, videos... new sounds to explore, to understand, to see, to learn. Today has been one of these days. almost feel like a drug addict being given a whole stash ... for free.

Mr. Music Man... OH SIGH :( I HATE that when it happens... music junkies take these things hard. Socks, This Erik Mongrain is amazing... here's his website... Montreal born and raised... enjoy. His melodies are so well thought through, tasteful. Don't know if that really expresses it properly but it's the best I could come up with. Seems to have been influenced by Don Ross...another amazing guitarist we featured here a little ways back. This is called thought it was cool the way his music makes the audience want to clap along. Motivating stuff!
