mstar, I agree with what you are obviously thinking, but some pretty interesting twists can be made in a legal sense. It would be "1984" style, that is, the unborn simultaneouslyis and is not a person. depending on the purpose (s) of those who are making a particular legal case. In other words, yes, there are those who want to have it both ways. Even on these forums, I have seen abortion described as murder because, presumably, TWI was directly or indirectly responsible, yet as not murder by the same person in other circumstances. Another difficult issue is the exception for whatever abortion prohibitions exist or might be proposed for rape or incest. Very reasonable to most if you are not dealing with the unorn asa living person. But if the unborn is a life, then that is saying someone's life is worthless because of how they were conceived. Interesting that he pled guilty to attempted homicide. Looks like it wasn't just attempted if the story is accurate. Plea bargain?

I must be mellowing. Using dental floss on Psalmie would be cruel right now.

Yea but they were SUPPOSED to either beat them or play them a tough game. Back in, I think it was 2001, my school beat them in the NCAA tourament and started their down time. That was a great shame to them to get beat by a school which was making its third appearance in the tourney in fifty years. Oh well, back to being the Big Ten doormat. I was watching that game last night and I thought Illinois weas going to blow it. My opinion is that when a team is playing to protect a lead and run down the clock, they wind up getting terrible shots if they dobn't turn it over first. However, they changed that in time to get off the game clinching shot.

I guess I really didn't think of being hungry while I was there. It was after I got back to HQ that I remembered I was hungry and pulled off my near midnight pantry raid. Of course a large part of that could have been the long solo hitchhiking journey.

Oak, this is really a pretty moderate statement from you, and I have to agree given your emphasis of THE. If someone is considered THE (only) one to speak for TWI, or any church, no matter how humble (or not) he appears, I don't see that as Biblical.

Good point. True, we were taught that SIT was only the proof in the senses realm of being saved. being saved was very explicitly dealt with when Romans 10:9,10 was heavly emphasized.

Ya know, on rare occasions there have been named storms after the hurricane season has "officially" ended. I know...not listening...
-
Raf, I guess you have to ignore Delta...just below hurricane strength...to keep your word. True, it is really far out there in the Atlantic going nowhere, but maybe some poor sea captain out that way will miss your thread...right...

Actually, I thought the introduction to the list of groups in which the above link is located was interesting, and should draw some interesting comments... The main faith groups which have been unjustly targeted by the ACM, CCM and oppressive governments are listed below. Please note that these are well-established new religious movements and not dangerous, doomsday cults. The Brethren The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) Christian Science Church of Scientology Eckankar Falun Gong/Falun Dafa The Family, formerly called The Children of God The "Garbage Eaters": common derogatory name for The Brethren Hare Krishna - ISKCON Jehovah's Witnesses Neo-Paganism New Age Santeria Satanism Unification Church Vodun (Voodoo) The Way Wicca

I wonder when you went. I went in October 1977, and don't remember any contact with the locals, or the quonset huts. We pick green bell peppers the first day, then red bells the rest of the week...but as I mentioned, we had some access to the hot ones.

I guess you are referring to the solo...we had 48 hours at it and yes, it was nice and quiet. We had good equipment too...I was comfy sleeping despite the water in my bottle freezing completely solid. Another fun part for me came after my solo hitchhike back to HQ...upon arriving late Saturday evening, I pulled a solo pantry raid. That's pantry rain, meaning food...and had a nice post Thanksgiving feast. It wasnt as daring as it sounds because what I raided was a store of Thanksgiving leftovers that had been marked for LEAD teturnees, so had I been caught, there may not have been any flak.

I am guessing that he would apply it that way, Oldies, judging from his posts so far. But it would be unfair not to emphasize that I am guessing, so I won't stand pat on that answer, but will gladly stand corrected if he says otherwise.

Hitchhiking back was an adventure and a half for me. Due to an odd number, I was the only one heading back to HQ alone. Made it on time but didnt come back with all the money I was supposed to come back with. May have been one of a few factors in my LOA a short time later.

Thanks rascal. And in case you are wondering...maybe not...that last part about soon dropping the subject entirely had nothing to do with your post, other than your post moved me to mention what I had already decided. Efforts producing little results prolonged indefinitely are like, well.....

Don't remember knowing when the official name was changed to "The Way International" from "the Way, inc." ...anyone know?

Rough recollections-history and overview of TWI.

When I took it at Indy in January 1976, it was $85 for the foundational, then $35 for the intermediate class. Shortly...well maybe it was after ROA...the two were combined and the combined class was $100...a discount of sorts. I remember being at ROA...think it was 1978 at a corps meeting, maybe someone else around remembers better...when it was raised to $200 after a voice "vote" after VPW floated the idea. -
I remember writing a letter to the editor of the Philadelphia newspaper in 1979 in answer to a story of "Why did God choose, then take the Pope?" (This was just after Pope John Paul I died.) No, I did not get into the question of God choosing the Pope or not...just into the taking part. At the time I was interim corps helping to run the WOW branch there. yes, the letter was printed.

That setup sounds a lot like the Forestburg melons we have around this part of the country.

Would you love us if I used this chance to put the 9th corps thread down into fourth place? It must be strange territory.

Being famous and/or a historical figure of the past does not, IMO, make the people quoted in my post the authorities on life any more or less than the people quoted in Belle's original post. However, if the purpose of the post was to illustrate what a group of "successful" people believed about God and/or the Bible, I felt some balance would be a good idea. Promoting these people as the authorities on life and/or Biblical authority, or lack thereof, then pointing out their shortcomings, or anything we don't liek about them, certainly would be an effecient way to discredit anything they say. For example, just speaking for myself, I don't think I would want to guide my life according to the gospel of Stephen King. You apparently would not model your life after Grant and Lee. However, George, I am not so sure that a quote from, or a story about someone who uses the Bible and Christianity as the basis for his/her pacifism...opposition to war or killing...would bring you any closer to believing that God, Christianity, or the Bible has authority any more than Grant and Lee and the others.

Rascal, I am not asking you for anything personally, and especially not asking for anything that was mentioned privately. My question was for anyone who can answer. I refer only to anything that was posted publically, as it seems to be implied by gladtobeout. If someone tells me reliably I consider you among others reliable) that there is nothing posted publically, I will not bring up the subject again. Perhaps you DO believe that my only purpose in asking is to cast doubt, in which case, so be it. Several years ago, in the old Waydale days, I made some very fruitful queries on the same subject (sexual abuse in TWI) with a couple of posters and got some eye opening first hand testimony. I did not and do not doubt their testimonies. In those cases, VPW was not involved. There is one long time ago poster who is still around from whom I once heard something even closer to the subject. But i have never inquired further for reasons I think you would understand. Just as I have not asked the corps person I sat next to all the time at Emporia (who might have some information) for the same reasons. In the first post on this thread, Linda expressed her doubts. As far as I know, she did not express them publically until after, as she posts, she had them resolved only because she saw testimonies from two people and knew the people to whom it happened.Maybe that is my mistake...asking questions before they are answered. Don't worry; I am not asking you personally for anything, and if you don't believe that, rest assured that I will soon drop the subject entirely.

NOt really, but I am guessing most here would disagree with that statement...either because they believe VPW taught some good things, or because they believe VPW didn't teach anything good and didnt have a conscience. But I'll give you a pat on the back for briging it up. Seriously, I am admittedly guessing that a majority of people on GS believe he believed he was teaching the truth, whether they believe he was or not.

I had a pretty good time in 1978-79, , and we did share the Word...at times. But as we werent being ruled with an iron hand, neither did we rule as such (I and a fellow 8th corps guy were in the branch), but we looked out for each other. I suppose that was why we had a good time. We never heard anything about not getting a clas together. But, then, I started getting some flack about other things when I got to HQ that fall. I still want to get details on a WOW experience that wasnt as good from my old Indy buddy...Blue Sunday, where did you disappear to???
-
At one point we were told...dunno how true it was...that we were slower than their "usual" workers, but we produced a better quality product...probably true since we threw most of those rotton red bells at each other.
-
Serious question; where have these stories been shared, if they have been shared publically? By serious, I mean I am asking the question with desire to know, not expressing doubt that the stories are there, as may be assumed by some.
