  1. My BC during my apprentice year had been very actice in that FL program at Indy. He was the one I went with to the AC at Emporia just before I went in the corps. He had had it before, and came running up from downstairs when he saw me on the tube sitting in VPW's seat near the end of a break...the camera operator told me to sit there so he could get a fix.
  2. Yea, I was worshipped LOL. BTW what does that last line on your posts refer to? It's not a reference to Bill Clinton's former fast food cardiac diet, is it? Just so this post isn't irrelevant, of course through 1979 at least, in residence corps still had those Christmas breaks when we were still allowed to go out into the world on our own. Did those end at some point?
  3. I just worked there whenever I could. Sounds like you were in fellowlabourers or something. That was the year Steve Sann had just taken over the IN limb from John Lynn, who had moves to NY.
  4. At least no one has menationed our former long time governor and more recently former congressman.
  5. I am going to deliberately stick this in the wrong thread because it relates to 1976 and the memories of JN, specifically Ted Ferrell that year. I guess we didn't hear much from Ted for the better part of a couple of years, but I remember his "comeback" (if it was really one of those) at ROA 1978. I was standing next to the stage as part of the C of E choir, and Ted was appropriately introduced to sing "Ready to Go". I remember that well because everyone stood for him when he finished. Craig then announced, "you can remain standing and I'll tell you why". We then proceeded to sing the Hallelujah Chorus with our undermanned choir. Interesting because Craig explained the standing for that as a tradition and had no qualms about keeping this tradition. But mainly I remember Ted's inspiring singing.
  6. I'd say John was a good one when I first became involved at Indy under his reign there. Maybe I should try that e-mail idea.
  7. There are significant blocks of people who celebrate Christmas, but at other times than December 25th.
  8. I walked alone or with a couple of others at times down some of the shady side streets of Philly...partly because those shday streets were where one of our WOW faimilies...of four women...lived. In fact that was where I went to gove the lamp mentioned above. never has any problems there; neither did they that I know of (and I had better have known it since I was helping to run the WOW branch).
  9. I dont remember him taching that at all, let alone over and over; perhaps it was in the 80s...My corps and TWI time ended abruptly at the end of 1979.
  10. Good differentiation. I wouldn't mind seeing some examples myself, but I know the craig I knew as corps coordinator in the '70s was not the same Craig who was TWI president in the "90s.
  11. You're both right. There was pressure. It wasn't absolute. It was felt differently by each of you. Surprise. We have two different people (or three if you add me) with different experiences. I could elaborate further while I am hanging around, and I am no longer afraid of getting chewed from both ends, but it would serve no good purpose.
  12. Oldies and Rascal, I am guessing that Oldies (and I) took PFAL some years before Rascal. It seems from descriptions of TWI life I have seen on GS than there was a general increase in pressure to do a lot of things with time. Perhaps that is the reason for your different descriptions. I was not pressured at all. But as 8th corps in residence, we got taught the motivational techniques class, which was essentially instructions to do it with pressure.
  13. This might be a little off thread, since it wasnt Christmas, and I was the giver. On two occasions while at Emporia I scraped some of my meager corps money together as a gift for two of our leaders, one of which was 6th corps. I never expected or received any thabnks or other return, though in one case I think I left the gift anonymously.
  14. The only comment I have now is really unconfirmed, but regarding the brand name item... I just heard yesterday that Pepsico has overtaken Coca Cola as the more valuable company in terms of market value, or stock value, or something. Anyway, whetever it is in, it is the first time in over a hundred years of existence that Pepsi had overtaken Coke. I guess that doesnt necessarily mean that Pepsi is the more popular drink. Anyone have better details on that than I do?
  15. Must have been since I think there was only one jogging scene, which was accompanied by music, "Believing's the key to heaven...". I remember that they announced they would be filming at a certain time, so I showed up. We jogged a few times around thw lawn on the sidewalk.

    5th Corps

Did the 5th corps cease to exist? Or did everybody vanish? No thread. I was wondering if anyone else remembers Wayne Fortier, who was my first branch leader at Indy. He handled both the area branch and the semi seperate medwows.
  17. No doubt much more memorable than my very brief center screen appearance jogging. I'm thinking of another good one who was the branch leader at Indy when I came on board. Think I'll go to the corps forum first.
  18. Neither was I pressured, at least not individually, to take PFAL. Just as I was not pressured individually, when I went to a Billy Graham rally, to accept Christ (I already had, this was in 1987, but there was no individual pressure...of course how could there be with all the thousands there). One can deem the teachings in twig of how great The Word is, or the preaching by Billy Graham on how wonderful accepting Jesus Christ is, as pressure I suppose, but there was nothing said to me individually. In fact, no one even told me I should stop going to the (Methodist) church I was going to for a while as I went to twig. I was never one for putting on the pressure either. The famous motivational techniques we were taught in residence at Emporia was not my bag.
  19. Yea i have mostly good rememberances of John Townsend at HQ. He did get upset with me on a couple of occasions but when he was letting me have it personally, his voice stayed as soft as normal. One time I missed a shadow appointment with himand he couldn't understand how I could memorize as much scripture as I did but forget a simpe appointment like that. But if you want a good rememberance here, I have one of Naomi. It was she who helped us corps men out when we raided the women having a nacho party in the Wierwille home. Later they caught her eating the stolen nachos with us.
  20. That seemed to be the tone of what I heard VPW say (see my above post if you wish). Again and obviously, things changed.
  21. On the spur of the moment...seeing a lamp in a store in downtown Philly in 1979, I bought the lamp for one of the people in one of our WOW families. I knew nothing about what this person (or the others) had or didn't have. Just wanted to buy it. After giving the lamp, I learned that this person was the only one in the "family" without a lamp, had wanted a lamp, and had prayed for a lamp. I don't know if the prayer had included the type of lamp (Snoopy & Woodstock), but that seemed to result in most of the appreciation.
  22. Maybe you knew a guy named D**e St**son who came up to Indy with us after ROA that year. I borrowed his red IU raincoat for a makeshift cape in my locally performed Super Conqueror act.
  23. I can accept that, because I know there were some big changes in daily life, and my exit came at the end of 1979. Just testifying to how it was in my time.
