Couple I'd like to try. I love that the menu tells where the meats and veg come from. I notice the fish comes from Plymouth fish market :) gc

Hey Twinky, A bar-b-que sounds good. :) gc

Twinky, Pumpkin Pie Spice Ingredients: * 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger * 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg * 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice Preparation: Combine all ingredients. If you make extra, store in an airtight container. Yes, all purpose is plain or strong flour. shortening is vegetable oil that is solid at room temperature. I have found it at Tescos near the goose fat. Not sure its called shortening here though. It doesn't burn as fast as butter or margarine, so its also great to grease baking dishes with. Sorry it took me awhile to answer. Thanks geisha :) gc

Twinky, here is a link from another thread that has two pumpkin recipes. :) Pumpkin bars and pumpkin bread gc

Twinky, I've got the kitchen waste going into my bin, no problem. But I have so little grass going in that its not heating up like it should. So its taking much longer to break everything down than it should. :( As far as the prunings go, when I moved here the garden had two trees, one rose bush, one fuschia and way too many crocosmias. Nothing to prune. I love the idea of leaf mold, and yes, I've got that going too. :) It sounds like you have a nice veggie garden going on. I've got leak also, they did wonderfully this year. I have a couple of green onions (spring onions) left and chives. My broccoli leaves were eaten by catterpillars, my tomatoes had mold, my bell peppers refused to grow taller than 4 inches, my carrots and parsnips were stumps, but tasty and I only got a couple of beans off my bushes. But, I've got high hopes (sings about the ant) for next year. I was watching the Gardener's World program for November and one of the gardeners said the best time to plant spring bulbs is in November. The reasoning was that if you planted them in september then there was a good chance that the bulbs would come up too early and the tips could freeze. Which is exactly what is going to happen to one pot of daffs I planted in September. I have 7 little tips showing in a pot and winter isn't here yet. :( Do you have an allotment? gc

That chicken hash looks pretty good. I might try it with a couple of eggs on the side. Thanks. gc

Twinky, I don't like the way mushy peas look, so I've never tried them. The only peas I enjoy are petit pois or early peas and I haven't seen them here yet. now I see, Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I believe the three buildings on the left are old and the others are modern. Many buildings in Plymouth, especially the city center, were destroyed, They were blitzed during WWII :( Thomas Loy, you have happy holidays also, thanks. :) gc

Kimberly, I compost too and have done for years :) This year I'm having problems. Its my first year of composting since I've moved and I don't have enough grass to add to it, so it doesn't get as hot as it should. I don't like the shape of my new bin, it makes it too hard to reach the bottom to turn. geisha, my compost bin is hidden by a trellis which in the next couple of years will be covered by ivy. I'm hoping my yards will look good come spring. I have tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, bluebells, crocus, lilies, irises and anemones planted in the front and back yards. gc

TLB, The moors are very similar to the swamps, 'cept for the hills, the lack of water and there ain't no gators! ;) Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Instead of turkey and the trimmings I love so much, this year, as last, I plan to go to the Hoe for their thanksgiving celebrations. I really enjoyed it! They raised the flags (US and England) and the Royal Marine band marched and played for us all. And by the way, its Sunday so we are having a roast dinner and today its pork :) See you for tea! gc :)

TLB, I've never heard of Gordon Ramsay before you mentioned him. I'm not a big T.V. watcher, so I looked him up. I do like to watch "Step up to the Plate", and I've never seen him on that show. What do you think about him TLB? Twinky, I really like the "on the go" food. Pasties, sausage rolls, chicken pie and the like. And of course Fish and Chips. Fill a thermos with hot coffee, pickup some lunch and head to the moors, a perfect day. gc

The only type of Pasty I've ever eaten is a Steak. I've never tried to make any, but would like to try make a desert one. They are pretty traditional in my household, I may have to call it something else ;) You are so right about a good and bad pasty. If they aren't made well there is little meat and its dry! Have you ever made them? gc edit for typo

Now I see, Here's two that I love. When I find my Zucchini bread recipe I'll include it. This banana bread is the Best I have ever tasted, never dry. I used to get request for it around Thanksgiving and Christmas when I lived near family. Bread 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup butter, divided 2 very ripe bananas, cut into small pieces 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional) 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 3/4 cups all-purpose (strong flour) 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda Frosting (optional) I've never used it before, but sounds good 1 1/4 cups confectioners sugar 1 package (3oz) cream cheese, softened Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (176 C). For bread, combine brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until butter is melted. Add bananas and pecans, stirring until well coated. Cool to room temperature. In a large bowl, cream remaining butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs. In another bowl, sift together next 4 ingredients. Mix dry ingredient into creamed mixture. Stir in banana mixture. Divide batter evenly between 2 greased 3-1/2x6-3/4 inch loaf pans. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn onto a wire rack to cool completely. For Frosting, combine sugar and cream cheese in a medium bowl. Using medium speed of an electric mixer, mix until smooth. Drizzle frosting over bread. Store in airtight container. Yield: 2 loaves The Spirit of Christmas, book 5 enjoy! gc -
