Garth, I'd say that your card would definitely work because I have a friend that uses it. I don't know how he got it to work though, and since he's one of the types that compile his own kernel I can't say for sure that it is one that is easily supported to the highest extent. I do think that you should have no problem getting something like X to run, but you could have trouble with any games, if that is what you're wanting to do. In fact, most gamers that use linux also keep a Windows partition around specifically to play games, since very few are ported to Linux. As far as the software goes, I think SuSE is the best for free stuff, but Redhat should have more than enough for you, as well as Mandrake or any of the other easier ones. I would think that you would run KDE or Gnome as your desktop GUI, and then you just need Mozilla Firefox for a browser, OpenOffice, Thunderbird (or another software) for email, and whatever other miscellany that you want to install. There's the Gimp for graphics, even though it's not as good as Photoshop. There are plenty of chat programs, there are ftp tools, ways to sync your PDA, and other things. The last version of Linux I installed was either Redhat or Mandrake, and it included all of that software on the CDs that I downloaded for free.

I think they cut out most of the stuff that wasn't directly related to the FOTR vs. Sauron storyline. However, I do think that the scouring of the shire fits in with that somewhat, as it's tying up loose ends. Personally, I think that the best way to have made this would have been something along the lines of what Spielburg did with "Taken." Unfortunately I think the budget for a series of that size would have rivaled the budget of most countries, nevermind movies.

I think Peter Jackson's biggest mistake that people will hate him forever over, is not filming the scouring of the Shire. I can understand leaving it out of the theatrical release, but not even having it in an extended edition DVD makes no sense whatsoever. They didn't need to include the whole thing, but something should have been done. (Using vagueness to avoid spoilers for those that haven't read the book.) They could have simply had the bad guys destroying stuff on a rampage, and then had the four hobbits return and take care of business with them, without the military aspect but uniting their neighboring hobbits. Then, show them rebuilding, and five to ten minutes later, the whole thing is over and they go back to the scene of sailing to the west.

Heh, thanks. I'll take that as a compliment. :D--> I do think it's time for a new image like that though. I'm probably going to make one at some point comparing arguing on the internet to supporting terrorism. That one can be offensive without being cruel like the one I posted is. Unfortunately such a thing doesn't exist yet so I had to use the one above.

I apologize in advance to anyone with Down's Syndrome, but this came to mind as a result of this thread.

I'm probably going to buy a MiniDV recorder by this summer. Are there any suggestions on what to look for? I've not dealt with stuff like that before.

Well they're saying that Mars used to have a lot of water now, so maybe it used to have sea monkeys as well.

And here I thought we lived in a Representative Republic, not ancient Greece. :D--> -

Since when was America about the tyranny of the majority? Has our culture become so blind to what the founding fathers stood for that we think, "there's more of us, so we have the right to bully them around?" Might doesn't make right, nor does a majority make things right. -
I think it must be due to the fact that I downloaded mine over a year ago, so perhaps I have an older version.

Jonny, The first one was an individual who was a bastard, and the others is a problem that childish straight people do as well. I wouldn't expect a normal person that is gay such as Trefor to be making out in public or anything like that. The problem is that you can't judge an entire group of people based on the deeds of individuals. It's like saying, "A black guy robbed me once, and a black guy broke into my neighbor's house, so I hate them because they're all criminals." -

Maybe not green, but the blackest beer in the world that is so dark it sucks the light out of the room exists only in Ireland. It's not my home, so I can't say I'm feeling homesick, but I have been missing it a lot lately and I really need to go back soon. -
Perhaps you have a better DVD burner than I do. Most movies have to be put on two DVDs because they are dual layer, while my burner is single layer. I didn't even know you could buy dual layer DVD burners now. What brand do you have?

" TARGET=_blank>http://roxio.com/adban/creator_6_microsite/index.jhtml The RIAA is in charge of music, and I don't think Roxio will make a copy of a broken CD (copy protected.) They mainly are going after music downloaders now, as normal bootleggers haven't been that much of an interest to them.

I don't believe in IP (intellectual property) as a real thing, although I do see the benefit of helping nurture ideas to make money for individuals and keep the incentive to create new things. However, we've gone so far away and made IP equivalent to real property, and further. With that being said, I have no problem with pirating anything. I prefer to use free software to avoid any legal problems there, and I purchase or rent movies (I don't like that DVDXCopy makes you record onto multiple discs), I download music (mostly non-popular public domain stuff anyway), and I have traded copies of video games with friends rather than buying them. I've had a longstanding feud with the motion picture industry and they've used words that I've said in the past against 2600 (a hacker magazine) in court, which really ....ed me off. The music industry is the same way. When Jack Valenti and Hillary Rosen finally kick the bucket, the Earth will sigh in relief after being polluted by those scumbags. For a while, I refused to go to movies or buy DVDs, but then when I got married my wife wanted it enough that I had to trade in my ban for her happiness, and since she means more to me than my problems with the MPAA, I had to suck it up. However, anything I can do to cause problems for them within the confines of the law I will do. For those that read the political forums and know my opinion of Bush, I hate Jack Valenti more, because the MPAA made it personal for me. Anyway, ummm...yeah, I copy stuff. If you have a Playstation 2 I can also tell you that it works well for making backup copies of games, but you have to have a modchip in your PS2 (easier to install than a hard drive.)

I thought this topic was about the possibility of life on Mars. They're not 100% sure, but it sounds like the Mars rovers have found salt water. It's interesting because under the surface it stays liquid, but when it comes to the surface it freezes. Of course, it's possible that life was discovered on Mars in 1976 with Voyager I believe, but one test said yes, another no, so it's inconclusive at this point. So, to get back to the topic, it's entirely possible, although unlikely, that seamonkeys live on Mars.

Sierra was in more recently than that, as I seem to remember hearing her name before. I didn't really know her but I think she may have even went Way Disciple at some point. It's hard to say. There are a few people still in that post on the "About The Way" forum and may have a list of the way disciples from the late 90's up to '01. Like I said, I didn't really know her but I had heard her name around for some reason.

I remember him. The last time I saw him was an AC Special a number of years ago. You've probably seen him more recently than I have, so I don't think that I can really offer much help.

To answer your questions: 1) It's just a standard, but the only difference is whether you buy ones marked DVD+RW or DVD-RW at the store. Both will work in your computer, DVD player, and Playstation 2. 2) Sounds sort of stupid to me. I can't think of a reason to need two writers. It is good to have one CD-RW and one CDROM, because then you can burn from the reader straight to the writer. 3) Yes. A DVD burner has all the abilities of a CD burner plus the DVD stuff.

How much is it going to cost you? Did you bet someone $50 that gay people would never get married or something? -
ATI is good too, and in some ways technologically better. However, the best way to tell is to look into what software you'd want to use. I use ATI mainly, but either one will work. Agreed, and the more the better. CRT may be cheaper and brighter, but LCD is much easier on your eyes. I'll never buy another CRT, and I don't use one at home, and prefer to use my laptop at work. If you value your eyes and plan to use your computer for long periods of time, it may be worth it to get an LCD screen. An alternative is that if you have a good stereo system in the same room, you can connect it to that too, providing you will not have problems with people watching TV or something while you use the PC. If you can't do that, getting the better speakers is a definite plus. Agreed. The bigger the better. Agreed on this also. I would say to look at the system requirements for it. If the box says that it runs on Windows 2000 and you're on XP, it should work fine. Older games can work, but it depends on a lot of factors that may or may not be worth dealing with. If it runs in MS-DOS, then most likely it's not worth even trying. Also, I'd throw in to get a good DVD+RW or DVD-RW. You will probably want to either burn CDs or DVDs at some point, and the prices on the burners have come down quite a bit so it's worth it. Plus, it's the best way to back up your hard drive short of buying expensive tapes and tape drives. CDs are the new floppy disks when it comes to backing up hard disks. They work fine, if you want to load a sequence of 200 disks if a failure occurs. As far as wireless access goes, I'd get 802.11b equipment. All of the brands should be fairly compatible but I tend to use Linksys. You need a wireless router, plus a wireless network card for each computer that you wish to use. I prefer the internal ones, but they do make USB ones that are slower. You also will want to check to see how to set it up on your home network, because most ISPs frown on you setting up things like that, because it allows you to bypass their more expensive way of charging you for their home networking crap. If you name your DSL company I might be able to tell you whether or not they would allow you to have it. The wireless networking is great with a laptop, but you have to keep in mind that laptops often suck when it comes to their battery life. I have a Sony POS that just shuts off without warning, so I have to leave at least the power plugged in at all times. With a desktop it's good if you can't have your computer near your networking equipment, but otherwise it's not very useful. Something else that I reccomend and like are wireless keyboards and mice. The less wires you have to deal with the better.

In this case though, it was true. QQ and Rocky were constantly at each others' throats (sometimes others such as myself, Zixar, hillsbro, etc are involved as well) and it would spill over into other forums. The arguing has gone on to the point where pretty much everyone involved at some point has done or said something wrong. I wouldn't specifically blame an individual because we all control our own mouths and fingers and what we say. Still, the fighting and arguing went on until QQ seems to have gotten bored of this site or something, leaving Rocky still ....ed off. As far as Rocky's complaints go, I do think he may have taken it too far, but at the same time he had a good point when he first posted it because his thread was moved to a place where he couldn't see it at that moment, and I think he had a good point in his complaints about Zixar as well for taddling, in light of many other threads in the Open forum that belong in politics, doctrinal, etc. I would say that I mostly agree with Rocky, except that he has stated his complaints in such a way that it rubs others wrong and frustrates people. It could just be his writing style and if the same conversations were had in real life people would not get upset at him. In any case, this has become a big thread of whining, and I don't think I want to write another post about it. I'll happilly discuss Godwin's law and make jokes and such, but I don't want to contribute further to the negative stuff.
