  1. It depends completely on how much you know and how much you are willing to know. I've been learning and practicing investing with stock options since last year. I've gotten to a point now where I think I can probably start making enough money to at least suppliment my income and possibly buy a rental property in cash by the end of this year. In my paper trading (what going through the motions of trading without actually spending your money is called) I would be a multimillionaire by now for things I did within the past two weeks from just a few well-timed buys and sells of options on companies like Google, AVID (I forget their real name) and Gillette. I'm still not completely confident in my abilities so I am not going to dump my life savings into it or anything, but I'm willing to start risking a few thousand to make more than that. However, I am not an expert, so I can't really suggest anything. I have lost money on the stock market when last year I foolishly bought based on news and what analysts said would be great. A good example of that was not too long ago when Kmart bought Sears, and the "experts" expected it to go up to $150 or so. Instead, it got to about $120 after I bought it for $112, then headed south. Luckily I got rid of it before it reached it's current price of $100, and it was down to about $90 recently. I'm still learning, but if I can do even half as well with real money as I do with fake money, I'll be in good shape and potentially making more money than I do right now as a consultant. Also, keep in mind that making money is all about your state of mind. There are plenty of pyramid schemes and ripoffs out there, but rather than being skeptical of all MLM or everything that involves something that people will tell you bad stories about, learn to tell the difference between something good and a ripoff. As I said on a MLM related thread recently, my mother in law sells health food suppliments and other things for a MLM company, and makes a lot of money doing so. For other people, they would not be as successful and declare it a scam and that's the end of it. All you have to do is plan ahead and use your brain up front before you commit to anything and do hard work. As the cliche goes, work smarter, not harder.
  2. Yeah, calling it the teens sounds ok. However, if I still don't have a flying car, a robot, or something that they said we would have by now, I'm going to get really ....ed.
  3. I bet Teal'c could still whoop his @$$.
  4. Just wait five more years and it won't be a problem.
  5. I don't know, I heard a Texas band called Los Lonely Boys that are sort of pop, but some of their songs are not too bad. They are a mix of the typical Austin sound, mixing the guitar sounds of Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan, in addition to their own stuff. Of course, they are pretty much the only new band I know of that is decent. They're not my favorite, but they are at least musicians unlike Britney Spears, Nsync, and all their clones.
  6. I don't think I've ever met an extra terestrial, however, since I don't know what they are supposed to be, how can I really say for sure? On the other hand, I have seen a UFO once when I was either in high school or college. I was coming home from work one night, and I saw what looked like a falling star going at a sharper angle than normal, and then it sort of turned around and flew back up almost in the same direction that it came from. While I don't instantly think "aliens are coming" I do wonder what the hell that was. My wife's family is from Mexico, where UFO sightings are fairly regular. I know of a few cases where they have seen things. For example, my mother in law, both sisters in law, my wife's grandmother, and I think one other person saw a wingless aircraft of some sort taking off and flying low right over them, and a metallic thing the size of a stadium fly over my wife's aunt, cousin, and grandmother (who is nearly blind so she just noticed that it got dark). These people have no reason to lie and they are normal people, so I see no reason to not believe them. Oh, I forgot but one sister in law saw the lights over Phoenix as well, even though I think that was probably a U.S. military thing.
  7. I sold my TWI stuff a while back on eBay, and got a few hundred for all of that garbage. Unfortunately, the people that still believe in that stuff try to beg you to sell directly to them and avoid the whole purpose of eBay. They don't get the purpose of an auction I guess. Still, I'm glad I did because I got about $500 instead of the $200 that was originally offered to me.
  8. I guess there is a caveat about people that leave Oklahoma. My sisters were born there, but no longer live there. They're probably better people because of it. I have a few relatives that live there, and actually my uncle was born elsewhere and moved to Oklahoma. They are religious nuts though, so they fit in with the lunatics. What is beautiful in Oklahoma is better elsewhere. The Ozarks are not even as impressive as the Appalachain mountains, much less the Rockies. The panhandle is a horrible place, the desert areas are not as interesting as in Arizona. The central plains have nothing special as far as I can tell. I had an open mind towards the place until I lived there. The people are generally lazy, rude, and a lot more ignorant than I am. There are more churches than bars, LCM is from there, and they have 3.2 beer and tattoos are illegal. Oh, and they tried to rip off San Antonio's riverwalk in OKC, but made it more "family friendly." The only good thing I can say about Oklahoma City is that there are no good restaurants (actually, the only one that is ok is Chuck House, but it's not healthy at all) so I started on my diet and not going out to eat much anymore since just about every restaurant there will give you food poisoning and e coli. Texas is a lot larger than Oklahoma, and is the second largest state next to Alaska. So if there are as many tornadoes in Texas as there are in Oklahoma, that means Oklahoma must have quite a few. Anyway, if you like Oklahoma, that's your choice. I just know that it was the worst, soul-crushing, oppressive, populated with ignorant people place I've ever lived. I never went to Tulsa so maybe it's different, but OKC sucks and all of the small towns hate people that aren't from there anyway.
  9. I should post a photo of the dog on the pictures page. It's a miserable little 4 pound chihuahua mix that reminds me of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings. I don't like to refer to her as my dog much, because the wife picked it out, and I was ok with it until I saw how weird it is. I would have preferred a Sony Aibo, because I think robots are cool. When we get a house and have a decent sized yard though, I'll get a wolf hybrid.
  10. Being stuck inside due to the snow and wind is making me very antsy, aggravated, bored, and wanting to go out and do something. Unfortunately, it's midnight now too so there isn't much to do here even if the weather was nice.
  11. Oklahoma is a horrible, worthless place full of lunatics and people who have post-traumatic stress disorder from the constant barrage of tornadoes. Texas, on the other hand, is a great place with lots of good people and good things to see and do. It's not a hellhole worthless landlocked state like Oklahoma. :-D
  12. Wow, so other than the automation that we had, life was worse than it was for the ancient Romans. It's amazing to see how far we've managed to come, and how far we still have yet to go.
  13. When are the AC Specials supposed to take place?
  14. Ah, the joys of a valve stem puller for repeat offenders, and calling to have their car towed.
  15. Also, we only got between 2 to 4 inches, so it wasn't as bad as the weatherman predicted. I'm happy about that because it means there is no snow emergency and I can go out somewhere today. :-)
  16. When I moved into my first apartment, things were relatively quiet most of the time. However, the first time I brought a bunch of my friends over to hang out, there was a fist fight out front of the apartment beside mine, and I called 911. While on the phone with 911, there was a gunshot. As far as I know, nobody was shot, but it still was not good and I would say the worst neighbor I had. Either that, or the two apartments I have lived at where 1) there was a wife-beater, or 2) there was a couple that fought all the time and once the woman threw a glass pitcher and broke the windshield of another, uninvolved, neighbor's car.
  17. It could be worse. I am living in an extended stay type hotel that is built like apartments, and I have no shovel. In order to make a place out in the grass for the dog to do her business, I take a pitcher of hot water and go throw it on the grass, multiple times, until I have a clear snow-free spot for her to go on. Being the bitch that she is, she refuses to walk on snow, so even to get her to go to the clear spot I have to carry her. I hate that stupid dog.
  18. ****, *** **** * ********, ** ***** ***. Actually, pawtucket can set up a robots.txt file if he wants to prevent Google from searching the text on the forums. Also, private messages should not be subject to those rules if that is the reason because you have to be logged in as one of the participants to see it. However, I suspect that 1) the software requires the filters to apply to everything, and 2) pawtucket probably has some legal reason for wanting to restrict some information.
  19. Yeah, we're supposed to get 6 to 8 inches of snow tomorrow. Being in the north sucks. :-D
  20. I've found that it's best to order pizza from a chain where the people managing it have no personal stake in anything. That way, if they screw up, they don't take it personally and give you lots of coupons for free stuff because it's not their money anyway. Also, I move around so much it's good to know that Papa John's pizza is the same everywhere.
  21. Great, first they screw up TV "for the children", then they kill the Constitution, then they made the world hate us. Now the Republicans are killing Rock n' Roll! What's wrong with saying fvck at a rock concert? I don't see why a rock or metal musician would associate with politicians anyway, but at the very least they shouldn't sell out and act like a bunch of pansies so they don't offend people. Music is about doing your thing, not catering to politically correctness.
  22. I've not been in a situation like yours, since my step-family treated me like members of their own family. It's definitely a different situation. However, a few years after my paternal grandfather died, my grandmother met a good man from her church and remarried. While he was a great guy, he was a wimp to his kids, who were horrible people. They would come over and steal stuff from my grandmother because that's what they were used to doing with their dad. My grandmother would confront them constantly, and they got sick of it and eventually stopped coming around as much. However, at some point, they started missing their dad, and compromised and abided by my grandmother's rules when they were in her house. I don't really have any advice to give you, but I would like to let you know it can be done. So don't give up, but definitely talk to your husband first.
  23. I'm glad. Although what I said was accurate, it was said with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. Kid Rock was good when he first came out, but he ended up being almost like a Vanilla Ice very quickly. I forget what he did, but there was something really stupid that he said that made me lose any respect for him. It might have been something he said after his midget died (does anyone else remember little Joe?) Anyway, I still like some of his earlier songs, but he's pretty far down on my list at this point, no matter what his politics are. I still like Arnold Schwarzenegger even though he supports Bush.
  24. I really liked the first one, but the second was sort of lame. There were scenes that I liked, but the idea of getting the character played by Julia Roberts to pretend to be Julia Roberts in order to get out of a bad situation SPOILER> was too goofy and stupid for me to like. Overall the movie was not bad, but I've seen much better. It might be worth a rental, if anything.
  25. I normally don't like this kind of stuff, but this one was interesting. The plot is basically that a 51 year old guy who is successful in business but thought of as being old fashioned gets demoted and replaced by a 26 year old guy who knows nothing about the business but is full of ambition. That's about all I can say, except that it's an interesting look at balancing business and family life. In particular, I liked the ending. It wasn't your typical sappy Hollywood ending. This was a decent film. I wouldn't say it was my favorite, but it wasn't bad.
