    Expired Meds

Another thing to consider: In the wee ones, antibiotics may be given prophylactically, that is, to prevent any infection in the fluid collection from the cold. I had a child with a chronic problem. Constant ear acheswhen she was 3 1/2 and went to pre-school. By the time she was 4 she'd had about 4 courses of antibiotics and there was no sign of fluid diminishing. Our Dr. sent her to an ENT specialist and he discovered her adenoids were enlarged acting like corks on the inside of her little throat. He sent us to an Allergist to check for allergies, when none were found, put her on steroids for about 6 weeks and the fluid still did not dissipate. She needed tubes inserted to drain the fluid. Her adenoids were removed at the same time and there were no further problems. If you have a young child who gets very frequent earaches, start looking for the cause, it's not just simple colds most of the time. Something else is going on in addition.
  2. Congratulations! Since I wrote my experience with bribery, I've come to realize that maybe it wasn't actualy bribery...it was an incentive. As mj stated though..be prepared during this season. Newly pottied children sometimes have difficulty when the weather changes and becomes cold. Mine both had accidents then, and both did have at least one accident at night when the weather turned cold.

    Wrong Target

Local news here this evening stated that pilot error was not a factor, but rather a software glitch.
  4. Thanks Steve. I see where I may have gone wrong! When I wrote this I was thinking primarily of younger men - in fact those in late teens or a bit older...but I know it can happen in older guys too. The words here in bold refer to the sight reflex that cannot be controlled....much like our gag reflex cannot be controlled...or when you sneeze your eyes automatically close and there isnt anything you can do to stop it. I didn't mean that it couldn't be over-ridden. It can be, but it takes time and practice to learn to do this. Maybe this clarifies it for you. You don't have to agree with me, but I should have filled in the whole picture...but I didn't see that when I wrote it.
  5. Steve - What sweeping generalization did I make? I can't figure out what you're referring to.
  6. Well, let me intergect here! I think some of us are ascribing ideas to Galen that don't belong there. Galen said very little about child molesting, most of his remarks concerned adult men (at least sexually adult around 18 at least). What he said about these men is true. Men are turned on by sight. They don't even have to be thinking of "love" ect...but if there is something they see, some young thing, that is appealing they are likely to get turned on. And by "some young thing' I don't mean a child. When men get aroused, it's not something they can control. It is an automatic physiological response to what their eyes see. Some men are much more prone to this than others, especially when young (around 18 just to stay within the "adult" framework). When men are aroused, they hve a clear visible sign that states the obvious. Furthermore, there is nothing they can do to turn this response off....it will go away when the sights change, it a short while. In the whole realm of mammals, all males will go for the youngest healthiest female because that way they have the greatest opportunity for their offspring to survive and be born. That is pure biology. I know we are much more than biological creatures, but we cannot escape the features that are built into our bodies, so it is normal and natural for men to be attracted to younger women. As men mature, not necessarily age-wise, they are less inclined to follow their physiology and behave in a more "civiliaed" fashion. Now - here's the rub (yes, I know - it is a bad pun!!!). Young women do not understand this erection response. They are just as interested in having sex as men are, so when they see this response, they believe it is directed at them, and respond accordingly. Eventually it is likely that the inevitable may occur. Galen does not need to explain himself to us, but I see that some of us seem to be judging the ROTC thing wrongly. I'm not trying to speak for him, or in place of him, but Galen is a strong personality with very high morality. He's been in situations over the course of his military career that most of us can only imagine and we'd be only partly right. He's a man of measured words (not like me....tee hee) ROTC is only simetimes a classroom coure and only once per week do the cadets wear their uniforms. The rest of the time they wear street clothes. We all know how some young women like to dress. Imagine such young women practicing drills, shoulders back, chest out etc. When Galen says he knows himself he's talking about more than his moral and ethical behavior. He knows his body too. Now just suppose that just once, his biology kicks in while working with a highwchool girl. She doesn't know anything except what she sees....so she reports it, as she should! What happens to Galen then? It's not a pretty picture. I have total respect and great affection for him on these boards. When I see a post by Galen, I pay close attention because he always adds something important. Galen, forgive me if I've embarrassed you, that was not my intention. It just seemed to me that some people either forgot about the sight-response thing or ignored it...and I know very few people really know what ROTC treaining in a high school really involves. I just don't want anyone to have an excuse to think ill of you. krys
  7. Maybe all those centuries ago, isolated penal colonies weren't such a bad idea.
  8. 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused by age 18. 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by age 18 That is astounding! No onder there are so many disfunctional families now. Mom or Dad, or maybe both may still be dealing with some of these isues.
  9. mj - I apologize. When I made the statement about moving, I misread your post. I thought you said what would I do if one of these offenders lived next door to me personally. For sure, I would move to another part of town. But that's not what you wrote. I misunderstood it. Now that I do understand your question, I think after a while, I would get so used to the photos being there, I'd just ignore it. Not ignore the threat, I grew up in NYC and I'm used to keeping things like this in the back of my mind (potential threats). But - if it got to me I'd probably avoid the store.
  10. Excathy - I share your frustration this afternoon! But to be fair, I Believe Galen's quote referred to the diference between an 18 year old and 16 year old....as opposed to "adults".

    Just Awesome !!!

Wow! Do you get to see them often? How far north of the border are you? Beautiful stuff, that's for sure!
  12. Not for long I wouldn't. I would move pronto if I had any children, or if children visited!

    Asthma Sucks

I spent a bit over 2 years in the mountains of South-central/east New Mexico. That was the easiest breathing I'd had in years once I got used to the altitude. Mold is my worst enemy, so I suspect the dryness was my saving grace. I guess it's a matter of what bothers you personnally/

    Early Voting?

I apologize Steve!. I guess I'm gettinag crabbier as I'm getting older. I never expected people would vote twice if they could. How do I spell naive?

    Early Voting?

The thread got derailed because some folks just can't leave politics in the political forum where it belongs. I deliberately put this question in this forum because I figured there may be folks who don't visit the polital jousting matches who might like to know the answer too. I figure maybe 1 or 2 more crass jokes will send it to the Silly Stuff forum. Steve was just teasing Raf about Florida because of the issues which surfaced there in 2000. I suspect that if the TV hadn't prematurely delcared Bush the winner, the election may have turned out differenty. Who knows how many people on the left coast never bothered to vote figuring it was all over anyway and their vote didn't count. I wonder to this day if that was the biggest debacle and people keep pushing Florida in our faces to cause us to forget that little tidbit. But now, we'll never know. P-Mosh never overlooks an opportunity to push his brand of politics in our faces. I think he'd even do it in the Prayer Room if he had the chance. Well - - I learned. That will teach me to ask a question or pose an issue in the Open Forum. I'm done!
  16. Wine man: I hope the pic Sudo posted is neither trick nor treat! Happy B'day.

    Early Voting?

Well - I'm glad I asked. Now it not only makes sense, but also has a lot of advantages...maybe the whole country should do it...not for 2 weeks, but maybe for the weekend preceeding the election closing sometime on Tuesday nite. Thanks for the explanation.

    Early Voting?

I don't understand why some states allow this. I understand absentee votes, but early voting doesn't make sense to me. Would somebody who knows about this please enlighten me? What are some of the reasons people are allowed to vote early. Can anybody vote early?

You might want to ask your Dr. about Spiriva. Life has been a whole lot better for me since I've started taking it. www.spiriva.com
  20. Perhaps it depends on your location? I used DSL in a large heavily populated area and found it speed highly unreliable. At high traffic times there was virtually no difference between that and a simple dial-up. I'm committed to cable for TV reception by my land lord so there is no incentive for me to look elsewhere. When it comes to my computer cable service which I've been using for just over a year, I have no complaints. We had one short outage (local - not system wide) last winter when one "typical Jersey driver" slid into a pole. It was fixed in 3 hours.
  21. I see things the same way Linda does. His attitude screams about how important he is.... Maybe she did hang up the phone the first few times it happened....maybe she didn't this time so somebody else could listen in too...or maybe she recorded it.
  22. so - you scoped out the map - - where are you going to meet next time.
